Nostrana—literally ours—invokes local. Simple food from honest ingredients. Pure, regional, Italian. Opened in 2005, Nostrana is Chef/Owner Cathy Whims’ love letter to Italy. This is a restaurant built on relationships: with our amazing farmers and purveyors, our dedicated staff, and of course with you, our guest.

We hope to offer something timeless and authentic in a beautiful space, the regional specialties of Italy deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be better every day.

    We reserved our table with open table. I mentioned it was a date night with my husband of 26 years ha ha! We were put at the most cozy romantic table/booth in the restaurant. It was in a quaint corner too! We truly felt special! Nostrana is one of our favorite restaurants. This is my way of saying thank you.

    Everything we ordered was delicious, from radicchio salad to rhubarb, strawberry crisp. And our server, Ben, was just the right amount of attentive, friendly and non-hovering.

    Beautiful setting for a fine meal. This restaurant consistently delivers a beautiful Italian meal. Antipasti, primi, secondi, contorini and dolce of a high quality. The tuna and legume salad, goat cheese papardelle, pizza and trout dishes always deliver a transcendent experience. Cibo Buonissimo.

    Many recommendations on Next-door, but food was not up to what we expected. We LOVE good Italian, but this was disappointing. The Arancini was terrible, so spicy we could not taste anything but hot peppers, which is NOT the flavor of typical arancini! Sent it back and they brought us some cauliflower in a yogurt sauce to neutralize the hotness! Salad was fresh but bland. Pasta, goat cheese stuffed pappardelle was tender, but the balsamic vinegar overpowered the taste of the pasta and cheese. Our server was lovely and accommodating. The people setting next to us also sent their arancini back because of the spice. We did not have dessert because dinner was already $160 for two people. We live in the east side and have wonderful Italian restaurants near us, so will likely not be back. Kitchen needs some controls! This is not a Mexican restaurant!

    sas always, the food is superb. On the evening we were there, there were 4 people in training, so a lot of attention on the tables. The conversation noise was high, but bearable. What did not help was when music with a heavy beat was added. Made conversation really difficult.

    The craft cocktails were interesting, unique and delicious. We happened to be there on "Meatball Monday" and I will be adding this into my regular rotation. Yummy! Bartender was friendly, informative, patient and a great server. My only small complaint is the barstools are among the least comfortable I've ever sat on. I see why they picked the design that looks like a wine cork for the wine bar, but they miss the mark for comfort! That won't stop me from returning, but I would seek a table outside or in the restaurant as opposed to the bar.

    Wonderful service. Was able to sit outside on the patio. Good food. It was meatball Monday but the meatballs were small and dry in my opinion. 😬 everything else though was fantastic. Great cocktails too

    It is excellent when you can go to a great restaurant and your server can make things easy and enjoyable. Molly kept us informed with the menu, making decisions for us so lossless with enjoying a night out. The product (food) is an amazing experience, highly recommend because it’s worth your time and money… But the exceptional service is what gives this place consistent replay value, thank you Molly.

    Food was good, but not great. Many other restaurants in the area can meet your needs without the prices here..... the service charge, as many others post about is the icing on the cake. General service isn't over the top to warrant high prices, a 22% service charge and middle of the pack PDX food.

    Nostrana has implemented a 22% service charge. The server informed me this was not their tip, and when the bill came there was an extra line for gratuity. I was not expecting to pay 42% for service on top of an already expensive meal. I probably won’t go back.

    Nostrana is the kind of place where no matter what you choose, it's going to be good. It's going to be prepared properly and taste amazing. I've had several wonderful meals there. It's impossible to beat.

    Food was just okay for the prices. Pretty bland gnocchi and bread. The octopus appetizer we ordered just had a slab of very “American” influenced sauce that had no depth and felt out of place on the palate. Would not go back again!

    Four of us shared multiple dishes and a fantastic bottle of wine recommended by the sommelier. We started with a fava bean crostini which was lovely. The grilled Spanish octopus was tender and cooked to perfection. The not to be missed insalata Nostrana was excellent as always. It was gnocchi Thursday, so we were able to enjoy the pillowy, cheesy gnocchi alla Romana, a favorite treat. The wood oven-roasted trout was fabulous, and the sautéed spinach was a perfect accompaniment. Dessert was butterscotch budino, always amazing, and a special lime semifreddo with a white chocolate hard shell that was out of this world. This type of meal is why Nostrana is our favorite Portland restaurant.

    Nostrana is our favorite Portland restaurant with consistently excellent food and wine. We love the outdoor patio in good weather, and the ever friendly and excellent service. For Italian food, you can't do better anywhere.

    Celebrated my wife’s birthday!! To start of the staff graciously accommodated us to table by a window when all we had was bar seating. 👌🏽 Excellent cocktails to kick off! The arancini was a perfect starter with the Nostrana Salad. Our pasta with smoked steelhead was as decadent in flavor as it was fresh & light, as was the sugar snap peas side!! Capped off the evening with some vanilla gelato with Chocolate sauce and of course the butterscotch budino (OMG 😋😋) and Espressos. Overall - my wife and I had a phenomenal time and thanks in large part to our knowledgeable and awesome waitress - Carly. Thank you!!

    Nostrana is always a treat for us. after not going there through the pandemic, we recently had dinner there for anniversary--still the same level of excellence. The only item I struggle with is their explanation of adding a 22% "service charge" to the bill to provide a "robust" wage for the staff. I tip generously but I believe the tip should be based upon quality of service, not as a way to assist Nostrana in meeting its payroll. I'm sure they generate a generous profit--why not share some of that with the non-executive staff?
