Absolutely top notch. Atul Kochar never disappoints. The food was exquisite as was the service. Can't fault it in any way shape or form and the lunch is very good value for a restaurant of this caliber!

Based on our fabulous meal and wonderful atmosphere and service, I would highly, highly recommend this restaurant. I look forward to having again when I am in London the passion fruit martini, the green martini with a chili pepper you can eat easily because they have removed the seeds and above all else, there is a smoky after dinner Manhattan with real smoke that is incredible. We did something rather unconventional and ordered all eight side orders for our entire meal and it was a fantastic variety of flavors. The service and advice on the menu was very helpful and the head waiter was willing to explain how they make the smoke for the Manhattan in detail. I rarely drink Manhattans but this was in a different league than I ever experienced.

food very good as was our asian waiter he was lovely ...however the wine waiter who was NOT a sommelier was very pushy and extremely annoying, he suggested wine dint ask what we were eating and his first suggestion was a 36o pond bottle of red then the n I said no he huffed suggested a 16o pound bottle never once did he ask a budget, when I selected my own choice, an I know about wine he huffed and said 'well if thats what you want ' !!!! we were all shocked and embarrassed , he hovered around the table kept overpowering and was keen we ordered another bottle which alas was 129 pound which I felt embraced to buy due to pressure I did not buy another to his annoyance, ....this has to be rectified sadly I cant go back again

We were greeted warmly and shown to our seats. We had a set menu which arrived promptly, although they apologised as they missed one thing off. Most waiting staff were friendly but we had one who seemed quite miserable and moved my phone without even asking which I found rude. The food was nice and we had a tasting menu so was good to try different things. There was no “wow” factor, no real spice or overriding flavours that stood out but overall, a pleasant experience.

We had a table for 5.30. but we're told that table was not ready! Probably waited for ten minutes .
The meal was very good but as one of my guests was finishing here desert, one of the staff whisked the desert bowl away, even though my guest still was eating. This act is totally unacceptable and extremely rude.
We had not extended the two hour time scale .For me it rather spoilt our visit.
That grey suited staff member rather let down the whole restaurant.

Very high end Indian food, not inexpensive. Our 2nd visit. Excellent service, food very good although didn't seem quite as creative as our first visit last year - perhaps our choices. Table in wine room- a bit cool and less colorful than main room.

Benares is an OK restaurant. The food and ambience were good, but not exceptional for a 1-star restaurant. I was expecting more, both including the taste as well as the presentation of the food. Even though we ordered the non-expensive option (3 course menu at £35), the bill was of £146 for two people (including a cocktail and wine pairing for 2 courses but not dessert). I found very pricey for what it offered. The menu was very simple and lacking options. For the same price, you can get amazing dining experience in Paris. I wouldn't return.

What a disappointment. The food was fine and the pre drinks in the bar as pleasant as ever. But the service in the restaurant was poor. The five of us were spread around a table intended for 8 or 10, placed next to the kitchen and till. We could barely hear one another particularly as a succession of plates and trays were dropped. We waited ages for drinks to appear. What was worse was the metaphorical and actual shrug of the shoulder when we pointed out that things were well below standard. Finally, only when I got home did I realise that the restaurant has added a 13.5% service charge to the bill.

It was very busy and noisy and service was patchy. Food was good though. And so it should be for the price. Not sure they deserved a £60 service charge.

The dishes were fantastic. We had 3 of the 4 main vegetarian dishes from the A La Carte menu and they were all adapted to be vegan: Tandoori Khumb and Shimla Mirch; Haveli Kofta and Kathal Achari. They were all exceptionally spiced and more than enough for a party of four. I was told that the tandoori chicken was soft and succulent, by the meat eater in our group - just what they wanted.
In addition the staff were jovial and attentive, as expected. Although we only had mains, sides and drinks, the bill was rather dear. Having said that, I would still return to this restaurant and recommend it to all.

The staff were great and discreet
The only improvement I would make would be to slow down the taster menu, as you didn't have a chance to enjoy each wine before the next one was poured.
also the first course came out so quickly, we hadn't even told the waiting staff we wanted accompanying wines and hadn't finished our pre-dinner champagne cocktail.
