Koutouki is a family-run Greek restaurant offering an authentic Greek food and a lively atmosphere. We use nothing but the freshest ingredients in our recipes that are homemade in house daily. The decor is comfortable, welcoming, and resembles a quaint taverna one might stumble upon when travelling the Greek isles. However, on Fridays and Saturdays when the sun goes down, the energy goes up. Bellydancing, plate smashing, and Zorba dancing make for an exciting and memorable dining experience.
Disappointing is what comes to mind. The calamari tasted like last week's cooking oil. My husband's ribs were overcooked and dry while my chicken souvlaki was bordering on being burnt. While the young man serving was pleasant, I suspect he had a bit much on his plate as our table was not cleared between courses and the wait for the bill was far, far too long. It didn't help that there was a large family group seated upstairs with one VERY loud youngster that echoed throughout the whole restaurant. This certainly was beyond the control of the restauranteur but it was very unpleasant. Not sure I would go back...sadly.
Great food! Empty when we got there so no need to book far in advance no weeknights. The platters are worth the value - SO much food.
I had dinner with two friends and we enjoyed ourselves. The food was fresh and plentiful. I'll be back.
The ambient of the place is great. Love the decor. Nice list of wine selections from Greece. Food is good. Will definitely return.
The dolmades and lamb was on point. Natasha did an amazing job waiting our table and thanks for recommending the bougasta!
Excellent as usual!!! Service was wonderful and everything was delicious.
Food was good, service was good. However we asked for extra pita, and were told it would cost an extra $3.00. When you spend $122.00, charging more for a very inexpensive item is a little annoying.
Awesome food, service was excellent, highly recommend this restaurant
Great atmosphere. Food is just ok and overpriced.
Server was friendly.
It is a very nice family run Greek restaurant
The food selection is very good and the quality is excellent
The service is attentive
The dessert menu has lots of choices
I would definitely return and recommend
I made reservations quickly and easily online, on a Saturday night! We were seated and served promptly. The place is new, very clean and modern. It’s missing a little of the ambiance of a more traditional ? “taverna” if you’re looking for a very cozy feel.
The menu had a good variety, but there were things that were unclear in the writing—for example:
We shared an appetizer—the pita bread/tsaziki dip (sp?), but it was really too much dip for one small pita. It was bread for one and dip for three, for $8. It seemed like a waste to leave it, so we got an extra side of bread—for an extra $4? Then to my surprise, our entrees came with...more tsaziki dip and no bread. Why does an entree that comes with the dip (I didn’t see on the menu that it did) not just include a small piece of bread with it? We could have saved the $ and calories we spent on the appetizer and had dessert instead.
I also tried ordering a chicken skewer and a side for my child (no kids menu). The server helpfully suggested the souvlaki, which came with everything we wanted for him. But the menu didn’t specify that it was a platter, or what was included—it just said “souvlaki” (which I thought was just the name for the chicken skewers). The printed menu could use a reformatting.
The food was very good. I had rack of lamb, and my husband had a stuffed chicken dish. The meat was cooked perfectly—tender and juicy. The meals came with Greek salad, which I love, but my husband and child do not. To substitute a plain garden salad, it would have been another extra charge. ?
The only thing I could possibly criticize about the food itself was that with the salad dressing, dip, and the seasoning on the potatoes combined (all of which I love), there was just a bit too much of a “zing” for my taste. We ordered an orange juice (came in a large glass), but didn’t enjoy it.
I would like to go again someday, but would order a bit differently.
Get over the fact that it’s not the low ceilinged home to sprawling philodendrons and 80’s murals of the Mediterranean like before... This place is a jewel. The service is what I would have dreamt it to be like to eat in a classy joint near the seaside in a high end part of a Greek city. I know big sentence, I’ll make up for it by saying, “The lamb.” I can’t say I have ever eaten lamb that rich and fall from the bones delicious. I actually crave it and walk through the grocery store lamenting over packaged lamb, the fact that I could never cook lamb that well for my guy. I could go on and on about the food being ridiculously fresh and tasty, calamari, but I won’t because I need space to talk about something very rare. Hospitality. You guys have it by the Alberta truckload. I get like I was in the servers home. I really did. So kind.
Btw: the blue walls make the candlelight even more romantic.
Thanks for the lovey birthday dinner for my husband and I the other night. We left stuffed. And we will be back for more!
Actually, I,m from Syria, and when I did search on google map looking for a Greek restaurant, I surprised that the meals photo are very close to our Syrian kitchen but when I went to KOUTOUKI South I eat there, here the big surprise, I felt like I,m in Syria, it was amazing, and a big thanks for the chef and the lady that she was work there too.
This was a very pleasant surprise. The place is nestled into a mall and I honestly wod have drove past it without noticing. But once inside, the restaurant has a really nice interior and cool vibe to it. Service is friendly and professional, and the food is just excellent. We will definitely be back.
Very great place to have a date or a romantic dinner. Everyone is easy going, the food is good and the service to match.
Experience was terrible from the moment we walked in. Appetizer dip was disgusting and was sent back. Beef souvlaki came out burnt on the outside and was rare in the middle. It too... was sent back. Saganaki was cold and no presentation with the brandy and fire. For a restaurant that has the audacity to charge a couple 115 bucks to eat, I felt more satisfied getting a $5 milkshake from the place next door. It made sense why the place had only 3 tables occupied at 7pm on a Saturday night. Don’t waste your time or your hard-earned money on this location.
Overall the experience was good. The saganaki was delicious but everything else seemed like something I could’ve ordered at a Greek fast food place for significantly less cost. If I were to go back, I’d order from their appetizer menu as these items seemed to be the most unique.
We had the Valentine special menu and that was very good value since it included two appetizers, Greek salad, an entree from three choices, dessert and a glass of wine for each - as well as a lovely rose for the lady. The food was tasty and the server was attentive. But the main downside was that the lighting was so bright that it destroyed any ambiance. I do appreciate when a restaurant has sufficient lighting to be able to read the menu, but this was so bright we felt like we were in a cafeteria. Also, the server brought our dessert when we were only half way through our main course- don't know why they could not wait until our main course dishes could be removed especially since the restaurant was half empty. A minor inconvenience is their tables for two are too small for the number and size of dishes we had when both the appetizers and Greek salad were served at the same time.
The food was amazing as always - our waitress was very sweet. I miss the low ceilings and hanging plants and dim romantic lighting - the new building has no ambience - it’s stark and business-like.
My wife and I had a Valentines dinner at Koutouki South and it was magnificent. The food was delicious, the services great and the price was reasonable. I recommend this restaurant highly.
Great food! Awesome new space. Server Natasha was exceptional.
I really loved the old koutoukis so was looking forward to some amazing Greek food. Unfortunately it fell a little flat. The food wasn’t as flavourful as we had remembered although the portions were still very generous. As far as the ambience, it was a little cookie cutter. I miss the quaintness of the old building. The service was a bit slow to start then did pick up eventually but not overly great (but not bad either)
In this economy for us going out to eat is a treat so just found it a bit disappointing as we used to love it here! Probably will try it again as it may have just been an off night.
Unfortunately was not the experience we expected. Service was poor, meals were served with large spaces between delivery to our table of ten. Some were finished eating to consume while warm before others did not receive. The food did not appear fresh as well. Have had better experiences in the past, but a return date will be some time away, especially for the below average experience with above average price tag.
Delicious food and great service.
The food was fantastic, however it was a poor portion given the price. I think that rice should be added to the meal, it is not expensive and would make people feel there is value for the plate.
I got a phone call 2 hours before my reservation telling me that they were canceling my reservation because their server was sick. We were planning to have a birthday lunch there. Had to scramble to find another restaurant that the birthday girl would enjoy. How does a restaurant only have one server? That seems unlikely. Did they not have enough reservations at lunch to decide to open? If one server calling in sick means they can’t open for lunch this restaurant is going to have big problems.
Great lots of fun, great food and service
Service was great, food was even better. They were very accommodating with the Meze choices and didn't charge extra.
Quiet but fantastic service....great food. I would visit again. The ambience is lovely!
Service was marginal
The food was great, the entertainment was good, the service was very attentive but the atmosphere lacks the intimacy of the old place. the room was cold and the high volumes made the experience less appealing than the historic experiences we had in previous locations
Great menu and food was delicious! We were with friends and were able to easily carry on a conversation. That’s a rare treat these days as many places play loud music and due to high ceilings, the noise level is magnified. It was nice to relax and enjoy our company and our food.
We went for a romantic date night and were not disappointed. It was a snowy evening and when we arrived were the only patrons. The lighting was bright for a Friday eve, would have been nice dimmed. The lights were dimmed right before we left 2 hours later.
We Loved the food so very much! It was worth every penny and amazing in flavour and presentation.
Through the course of our evening two other tables of people were seated. We felt with so much available space that it was strange they seated us all very close together. Seating us further apart may have enhanced the romance we were there for!
There isn't any signage on Calgary trail or Gateway Blvd. We struggled to find the restaurant. We had to call and get directions.
There was construction in the parking lot which made parking and access to exiting a nightmare. Large construction vehicles and road blocks took up so much space! I realize this isn't the problem of the restaurant, however, but it added to some stress around access.
I highly recommend this restaurant as a beautiful place for get togethers and romantic evenings.
Overall it was a good experience. Our server was fantastic and we enjoyed everything we ate.
Food was less flavorful and lamb dried out. Much worse than we had before at s koutouki south location. Decor was sort of modern Greek but was very cold in terms of temperature. Had a sort of fast food place vibe.
We ordered Koutouki Messe. The pita with 4 different dips and Greek Salad were fresh and good and Keftades and Dolmades excellent. The Lamb and Chicken were overcooked and dry. We did not eat more than a mouthful of each.
The young Belly Dancer was excellent, entertaining and very personable.
Overall we had a good experience and will return in the future.
Some of the best service at a restaurant and the owners were really sweet.
It’s unfortunate that the food was pretty bland. The lamb was way over cooked and dry. The chicken was moist but very expensive for what you get.
A great evening. The food was great, as was the service!
Clean restaurant and nice architecture. Food is great. I'm on a high polyunsaturated and monounsaturated paleo diet and my girlfriend is vegetarian and we both found a lot to choose from. It was a little pricey but very much worth it
We went to Koutouki for my mothers birthday, as she loves Greek food. We had great service and the food was lovely. We loved the Hummas and mentioned that and they gave us more in a doggy bag for home. It was delicious. We will be returning and recommending this restaurant to friends.
