Classic Gotham Steakhouse located in the ultra chic Meat Packing District, established in 1868. The restaurant maintains it's strong relationships with their butchers, allowing them to get their first pick of beef. Nothing but prime dry aged meat - always has been and always will be. Winner of the 2006 Wine Spectator Award. Lobsters ranging in sizes from 4 - 13 lbs., sushi grade tuna, sockeye salmon, Colossal crab meat and shrimp so big they are referred to as small bananas.

This place has seen better days… probably decades ago. The ambience? Imagine slicing into a steak while old episodes of Supermarket Sweep blare across the dining room, and you’ve pretty much got it. Save your money.

Asked for super rare prime rib and got a well done piece of show leather. I’ve had better hash browns at McDonald’s. The creamed spinach tasted like Birdseye. The martini was a martiny. Ruined Father’s Day.

It was pleasant to be greeted and was able to get a table. Ordered an appetizer, Prime 40 for 2, porterhouse for 2, filet mignon burger & asparagus. Our waiter was really selling us to get liquor or wine. Steaks were not sizzling hot as we hoped for. It was lukewarm. Steaks needed more seasoning. We just requested for salt & pepper. The asparagus was fresh & crunchy but the hollandaise sauce was off. It was a bit sour. The burger was the best!

The food was delicious and the steaks literally melted in your mouth. My best fine dining experience so far. I highly recommend it.

I have dined here sporadically over the years. I have always enjoyed the experience. The food was always great and reasonable for the quality. This time unfortunately, it was not up to par. We start with a Caesar’s salad which was great. We ordered the 40 day aged rib steak for 2. I had high expectations, but was very disappointed. The steak had no cap, which is the best part of the steak. It was very tough with sinew running all through it. After that we decided to Skip dessert and head over to the West Village. It’s too bad, I used to like this place.

The meay and lamb meals were very good as usual. However, we usually have "crispy" calamari which in this meal event was not very crispy, limp in fact. Also the side, creamed spinach, very watery not substantial at once. Not up to par from prior visits. And I have visited A LOT.

The three of us, myself and my two sons had a most wonderful experience yesterday at The Old Homestead! Firstly, our server Henry deserves a medal for Excellence! All the service was impeccable throughout all our courses! We started with two excellent salads, the Homestead Chopped and the Mozzarella Di Bufala & Tomato. Then as our appetizer we shared the magnificent 20oz Kobe Burger and fries, both excellent! My kids each loved their Sherry Bros 16oz NY Prime Sirloin, and I loved my 10oz Filet Mignon. The Sautéed Broccoli was over the top perfectly cooked and delicious ! It’s a lovely, comfortable room, the plate shapes are perfect for the food on them and table…We absolutely loved it!

Old Homestead is an excellent old school steakhouse. A lot of dark wood, red leather and great steaks. The service is outstanding. And the fact that it’s been open for over 150 years, gives it a sense of history. Would recommend.
