The service was excellent. They even take your coats for coat check.
Some of the food was pretty good (potato pave, brussels sprouts, duck). My porchetta was undercooked to the point of being mostly inedible. I couldn't cut it easily, even with a steak knife. I left most of it on the plate. I mentioned it to the staff and there was no apology or offer to take it off the bill. Service was fairly sluggish. The space is well appointed, and it seems like there's potential here. I don't know if I'll be back though.
We tried Maverick out before a SA Symphony Concert. Gnocchi was succulent, and schnitzel and duck were well prepared and plentiful. We would have tried the profiteroles, but we had no room. Prompt and genial service from John.
Great evening with business associates. Food was absolutely spectacular. Service one of the best in town.
Great food and service! I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
It was our 39th wedding Anniversary. We were not disappointed!! We all had a wonderful meal! The onion rings are incredible; the green beans, trout and homemade ice cream were all great too. One person and our table got the steak and he was very pleased.....it was cooked just right and very tasty.
This was my fifth or sixth meal at Maverick. Each time I take someone new from in town or out of town, they are very impressed with the food, the happily engaged crowd and the look of the place. The noise level is just right for me: busy enough to feel the energy but easy for me to hear everything which is said. Looking forward to going back soon.
Outstanding dining experience. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. My favorite restaurant.
The food is Great and the plate du jour is a terrific deal.
The Maverick was fantastic! Service, cocktails, food, atmosphere and even the decaf coffee were outstanding. Highly recommend for any occasion. Perfect blend of Texan and French fare.
Great food. I strongly recommend the gnocchi. Unbelievable. The trout was better than expected and the wine selection was amazing. Definitely recommend
Most of the food was very good. The salad had way too much dressing.
THey ran out of Bloody Mary mix, that was the only complaint.
My boyfriend and I had an excellent meal this weekend! The ambiance was warm and cozy, yet lively, but in a good way. We were very pleased that we had an 8pm reservation, yet when we unexpectedly arrived 30 minutes early, we were well received with no issues, and shown to our table. Our server, Joseph, was very knowledgeable making excellent recommendations as well as alerting us to their new Sunday brunch availability! Well done!! The lamb stew- which was the special of the evening was superb- dancing with varying flavors that didn't disappoint! The crispy duck was delightful; cooked and seasoned just right! The profiteroles were mouthwatering with the exquisite flavors of goat cheese banana gelato soaring on my taste buds! The only suggestion we would have would be to season the calamari a tad more, as the octopus was bursting with spicy goodness. Overall, we plan to make another visit soon...
Fantastic! The decor and ambiance was wonderful: intimate but warm. The staff was so friendly and professional. Then there was the food...the butternut squash soup was amazing, the lamb special was fantastic and we wished we had saved room for dessert. I will definitely go back when I am in San Antonio!
Maverick sets the bar very high in every way and excels. The menu is varied and alluring in its offerings and preparations. We enjoyed everything we ordered and look forward to trying more items when we are there next time. Maverick is upscale and casual at the same time. It is our new "go to" place in San Antonio.
Overall, great experience but server could use a little more training. She approached the table without a smile, on me tionnof her name or a “welcome to The Maverick.” Instead, she went straight in to can I get you something from the bar. I think she had good intensions, just needs more training. No one asked if we were celebrating anything special... we were celebrating our 5 year anniversary, so a nice “happy anniversary” from the server or hostess would have been a nice touch. Just want to see this place do well. We will definitely be back!!
Great experience. Outstanding dining and service.
We had high hopes for this restaurant. It’s in a nice space and has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, that is all I can say that is positive. The food was terrible. The menu item called grilled calamari and octopus was actually 4 small pieces of grilled octopus and a plate of deep fried calamari which seems like it was frozen, not fresh. Sent back because we didn’t want it fried (since menu clearly said it would b grilled) and they came back with a different version of the dish which was actually worse. The potatoes in the roasted potato side dish were raw and tasteless. Mussels were terrible - could not get them out of the shells and tons of grit, flavorless broth. The parsnip truffle purée was very sweet and the pasta with mushrooms was mushy and bland. The trout was the only thing that was really edible and it was average.
Second time there. Huge disappointment. The food took forever. The waitress seemed to not realize this. And the restaurant was not that busy. I had family in from our of town and I was embarrassed by the service. My first visit had been great so it was a huge let down.
This was our second time to dine at Maverick and once again, we were very pleased with everything. The food is fantastic and the service is top notch. The wood grill steaks have a great smoky flavor and are cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend to anyone.
We love this place. We had most of the veggies tonight. The cauliflower was amazing and so were the Brussels! The banana goat cheese dessert was incredible. We
just keep coming back!❤️
Ambience, service and food outstanding! Wine choices were many but pours stingy, especially for $14-$18 per glass pricing. My only comment for improvement
I really like Maverick - we have been their twice with our large extended family. The Schnitzel alone is worth the visit. Excellent wine list, great service, awesome bar scene and a menu that’s really interesting.
This is my second time to Maverick. First time we sat at the bar and have a great time. Good food good service good cocktails.
This second time was with two other couples. Busy Friday night. Seem to like the kitchen might’ve been overwhelmed a bit. Who took almost an hour to get there, which wasn’t so bad because we were drinking and having a good time. However, two of the orders were incorrect. One dish had lots of onions which was not mentioned on the menu. One dish that promised “calamari and octopus grilled vegetables“ actually came with fried calamari. The waiter said calamari was always fried and that was just our miss reading of the menu. The steak tartare was excellent as well as the Fried-kale salad. Overall, still a good experience which I would recommend to friends. We’re gonna try again soon and find out if it was just a fluke.
First visit and start to finish it was a terrific experience. Food was superb with exception of one side which was not hot but server urgently made it right....service across the board rivals anything in SA. We will be back!
A+, all 4 meals wete great, terrific service.
Delicious. One of the best meals of 2018.
We booked last minute through open table , first the open table menu and prices were off by at least $4 per entree
Second the ala carts was right down to bread on the table
The entrees were poorly sized and I left hungry
Single cut pork chop was smoked and flavorless
Potato pave at $7 was ridiculous and tasted like nothing
Very fancy. A bit overpriced, but good food overall.
We had the special on Tuesday night and it was delicious and very flavorful and done perfect!
Beef Bourguignon try it amazing.......
What a great place, menu, and service. Everything was outstanding!
Great food, service and drink specials!
What a wonderful hidden treasure, a real surprise when we drove up viewing the simple exterior of the restaurant only to be blown away by the fantastic architecture and design of the interior. Equally surprising was the attention to the detailed knowledge of our server as to questions and recommendations Veronica provided us about the menu. Food items were great and brought to our table without being rushed. A hidden neighborhood gem that we will return to often.
This was amazing. The brunch is sting with this one. We will be back for dinner. Get the duck. No seriously, Duck.
We went for our wedding anniversary and it was perfect! I have a dairy allergy and the waitstaff and kitchen was super accommodating and made sure the food was totally safe for me to eat. The food was amazing and the music was just the right level. A great wine list, good draft beer options, and a beautiful space. We can't wait to go back!
Amazing as always!!! I keep coming back for more :)
Everything was absolutely delicious, Beef tartare to mains and veggies all the way to dessert. Fantastic wine list as well, very esoteric and varietal focused!
Twenty minute wait past reservation time. Wait staff pleasant, but long waits between courses. Probably due to many large table groups that night. Food portions were generous with much flavor. Wine is a bit pricy.
Our server really made the night, love the location and the back pocket room, fun times
