Italian
Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is a market, salumeria, bakery and restaurant dedicated to quality products.

This "simple convivial spot that tastes just like Italy" feels like a "village inside-a-restaurant". While the Alimentari sells house made salumi, freshly baked bread and an ample assortment of imported and domestic items, the open kitchen looks out onto a rustic dining room with communal tables and long marble wine bar. A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Garrison Price features salumi/cheese boards, small sharing plates, fresh pastas and roasted meats and fish from a rotisserie and wood burning oven. The upstairs private dining loft, adjacent to the roof garden and overlooking the main restaurant and market, is available for parties up to 50 people for cocktails and/or a seated dinner. Whole fish under sea salt and roasted short ribs or porchetta are house staples often served family style as are house made gelato tastings.

we had a great dinner starting with the great bread and plan to return soon. staff very accommodating given we had a 7 pm theater at the Public - we were able to start earlier than 5:30 by sitting in a table in the bar area - service also very prompt

Food was great, service very prompt, a little on the noisy side... but, I’ve not been upstairs before, which is perfectly good, especially if you are to have a large group. I would probably ask for the ground floor seating if it’s an option.

We were made to feel welcome and comfortable the instant we entered the restaurant-1 hour ahead of our reservation I should add. The service was wholistic in that there wasn’t a time when weren’t watched over. I would recommend going before the main dinner hour and order from the limited menu. Wine prices are fairly high but the quality and selections were special. Try the specialty cured meats for a unique experience. Save room for desert!

Thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. Best to come with friends or a group since the seating is communal except for a bar-like spot. Creative dishes well prepared. Reservations a must. Very busy neighborhood place.

As a person eating alone the only option proffered here, as in most NY restaurants, is going to be sitting at the bar, which is fine, except that it’s compromised by your neighbours coats/bags/elbows/backs. The seats are VERY close together in an ungenerous way. The opposite of the food which is nicely inventive and comes in welcoming amounts. Not vast, not tiny either, and fully flavoured. I tried several of the white wines by the glass, none really hit the button.

I have been at Il Buco only a few time. Each time- food quality and preparation was original and great. Upstairs is great party space. Downstairs- two levels - tables are great. The environment is rustic and not fancy- but great in that it is not large - but ample- Service is wonderful. The home made breads and sausage (Salami) very fine.

I love the menu. It’s my favorite place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Fresh crunchy vegetables, delicious authentic pasta and spectacular grilled meat. It’s the only time break my vegan diet. I criticized the service only because it was too hovering and didn’t leave us alone enough. Bugged us to order when we had drinks and constantly pushed us. Otherwise it is perfection.

East Village gem that I go back regularly. The Italian wine list is wonderful, the Branzino melts in your mouth and do not leave without trying the cace e pepe.

Bad experience overall. Had not been back for several years -but going back was duh a disappointment.
1. Ordered a giant shrimp pasta dish. There was only one shrimp cut into small pieces to look more. Never seen anything like this before. Explanation was that it was supposed to be a crab - clam based dish, Sunday evening they ran out of it and replaced with shrimp. And they did not have many shrimps either. But the menu read “giant shrimp” and it was not pointed out to us when we ordered. They did remove it from the check in the end. After i complained.
2. Very Awkward service. The waiter was either stressed or angry or something between. The waiter aid was apparently told to fill up the glasses with water. Literally they had very small glasses and each time we had a sip of water he ran to refill them. We avoided drinking so that we don’t have him all over us all the time.
3. Crowd overly pretentious. More pretentious vivre ever seen.

Ordered the chicken and it was raw. We told the waiter who apologized and took it away. Then came back and said it would be taken of the check but that they didn’t have more chicken to make the dish again. The waiter didn’t offer us any replacement and quickly left leaving my husband with no dinner.

The restaurant is good but it’s not the “real”Buco. I though I was booking for the fancy restaurant for an anniversary date. I did my research online and saw cool pictures of Il Buco, so I was looking forward to it. When I arrived they told us the reservation was for “Il Buco Alimentaria y Vinatería”, a completely different restaurant, that’s much less fancy or comfortable.

We were a little late so we had to rush to make our concert nearby. The waiter really tried to get our food out quickly. The artichoke appetizer as well as the assorted meats were enjoyed. The pasta dishes, though small, were very good. I enjoyed the roasted chicken. It was quite pricey at $90 per person and quite noisy. I’m not a fan of the communal table. It just feels awkward. Otherwise a good meal.

Dining out is always more enjoyable when your server gives the impression he enjoys his work, is glad you are there and is happy to serve you. On two separate occasions recently my servers at Il Buco gave the opposite impression. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our meals in spite of the indifferent, bordering on surly, waiters.

food was outstanding. the artichoke appetizer was insane, as well as the shrimp and black rice. Would go back for those alone. Extensive wine list, a bit pricey, but found a nice Sicilian red that wasn't crazy. They are happy to assist with choosing a wine. Look forward to returning.

There were three of us dining after an event at Cooper and we had a combination of starters, salads, meats and one main dish--the roast chicken. Everything was great. The meat platter excellent. The roast chicken unusually good. And wine by the glass and beer. All-in-all a thoroughly enjoyable and very tasty event.
