Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is a market, salumeria, bakery, and restaurant dedicated to quality products. This simple convivial spot that tastes just like Italy; feels like an Italian village inside-a-restaurant. While the Alimentari sells house-made salumi, freshly baked bread and an ample assortment of imported and domestic items, the open kitchen looks out onto a rustic dining room with communal tables and long marble wine bar. A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Preston Madson features salumi/cheese boards, small sharing plates, fresh pasta, roasted meats and fish from a rotisserie and wood burning oven. The upstairs private dining loft, adjacent to the roof garden and overlooking the main restaurant and market, is available for parties up to 50 people for cocktails and/or a seated dinner. Whole fish under sea salt and roasted short ribs or porchetta are house staples often served family style as are house-made gelato tastings.

The atmosphere is casual and friendly. The artichoke appetizer we had was fabulous. The bucatini with olive oil and parmigiano was outstanding, as was the linguini wit mussels. This is one of our top restaurants in the city. We will definitely be back!

Thank you so much for a very enjoyable dinner . I came to New York for three days for the Fancy Food Show. The pasta cacio e pepe was delicious. One of the guests ordered the halibut thinking it was without a sauce. When we asked our wait person to replate it without the sauce, they immediately removed the plate and prepared a new halibut without the sauce. Even tho we said it wasn't necessary, they were very helpful , gave us a new dish. Our guest was very happy. The pappardelle wth lamb and the crispy artichokes were also perfect. Thank you.

Disappointing visit been many times before went with out of town guests. The cacio e pepe dry very little cheese. Complained to the waiter he said that was the way it was supposed to be I was looking forward to one of my favorite dishes. They forgot to give us our leftovers that to was disappointing.

Service was not the best. The person who was in charge of taking my order did not do a very good job on following up after I ordered a drink (took 25 minutes to get it). The servers who are not the waiter/s did a great job, but the person who took my order did not really care and did not in my opinion do as good a job as everyone else.

Had a wonderful time, as always. Food was excellent , crispy artichoke hearts , crude and lasagnette did not disappoint. Our bartender , Vincent was sweet , knowledgeable and attentive. He recommended the perfect wine for our meal.

Not at all what I expected from an expensive Italian restaurant. The food was barely ok, my risotto was undercooked and tasteless. Waiters were messy, although very nice. I felt I was paying too much for an average meal. Would not recommend it.

The salami board was very nice. Bread was cold. Polenta was wonderful!!! My husband ate parpadelle. He ate everything! I choose caio spaghetti. It was terrible, no al dente, it was hard.

After arriving late due to subway delays, we arrived frazzled and got seated at the bar top on a busy Friday. The bar staff could not have been more friendly and immediately raised the experience up several notches, making sure to top off my sparkling rosé and keeping close tabs on us. Our dishes were served with excellent pacing and each outdid the last, with the Manila clams appetizer and swordfish special two standouts.

The food at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is always first-rate in the quality of ingredients and execution. Service is pleasant and prompt. The wine list is encyclopedic although more moderately priced wines would be welcome. Wine advice in my experience over several visits has been mixed, depending on the sommelier on hand. More attentive suggestions that do not trend to the more expensive options would also be welcome. Cocktails are excellent. I shall certainly keep going back anytime I'm in New York!

Salumi is outstanding; pasta dishes were perfect, especially the spaghetti bottarga...but the service is always a little reluctant. There always seem to be lots of staff...but none of them are our server...and the sommelier doesn't arrive until the first course has been served.
