Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

Our noodles are custom made for us in Sapporo, Japan. The stock is made in-house and simmered for about 8 hours with high quality bones (chicken, beef, pork) along with kombu, onions, and garlic producing a clear broth that's delicate yet complex. All of the bowls (except the veggie) are topped with garlic, onions, bean sprouts, ground pork, chashu, nori, and scallions. The veggie comes with egg-free noodles and topped with assorted vegetables making it vegan friendly

Disappointing experience! I usually eat a ramen. I ordered the veggie donbori this time. Nothing spectacular at all. In addition to this, the wrong starter was given to us. Thankfully, I did not eat it as it was chicken and I’m vegetarian. The staff apologized quickly. Not impressed by the service :(

Delicious food, but definitely busy! Good idea to book ahead and keep track of the time you spend eating. We weren't thrown out or anything, but I was told when I got there that there was another reservation after me.

Their reservation mistake caused a rushed service. We felt pressured to hurry up and eat because they needed the table. Despite the delicious food and perfect ambiance, I can’t give this experience a five-star rating.

Took a while to get our table. Ramen was very salty. The fish bao was pretty good, but had very little fish. The apps all came out at different times, which was awkward
