What Insiders Are Saying
There are plenty of places to get ramen in DC, but Haikan is doing it a bit differently. Try it for a casual dinner next time you're in Shaw.
amazing as always. yummy for all occasions! will come back for my 10th time soon haha
We had a reservation but there was poor host service and had to wait 20 min for our table with confusing communication. The reception is the first part of your experience at a restaurant and this one was poor.
Haikan is WONDERFUL!
Fabulous authentic ramen - delicious food, fun drinks, GREAT staff, hip ambiance, takes reservations, has parking underneath, next to Landmark Indie film Atlantic Plumbing.
Always love them - and this time when Nick and Pablo understood we were celebrating my little sister’s Sr Olympic Tennis Gold Medal, so generously sent desserts.
Awesome ramen, however, the service wasn’t great.
Awesome meal and we tried the Spicy Ramen and a few apps - not too spicy though - perfect.
Great ramen place in U st. Daikanya’s sister restaurant??? Hard to book a table. And a bit pricey.
The ramen is tasty and there are lots of add-on options. We sat facing the open kitchen, and it was fun watching them pump out bowl after bowl of ramen.
Best ramen noodles I have ever tasted! All the dishes we tried were interesting combinations, and most of them were delicious.
We were late for our reservation by 30 min (thanks, DC traffic!), but we were still seated immediately. Service was great and our food came pretty quickly. They have an open kitchen and we were seated at the bar, so it was fun to watch the cooks work in front of you.
The ramen here is excellent! The broth is complex and delicious, but not too rich, and the noodles are fantastic and hold onto the broth well. Only complaint is that it's a little expensive for what you get, but it's DC so I guess that's expected. This was actually the second time we came to Haikan. It's now our go-to for a dinner before going to the 9:30 club for a show.
Feel like the ramen portions have gotten smaller but the prices have not. I'm more than OK with the prices, but the portions are small.
The ramen was really good and the food was hot. Our food did come at different times but within 10 mins of each other. I would recommend.
I had my doubts that this would be as good as my favorite Ramen place but Haikan did not disappoint! It’s delicious and has great appetizers and cocktails too!
This was at least my 5th or 6th time at Haikan in the past year or so and even though I love trying new foods and new places, I really can't stop coming back. It's my go-to place. The food is incredible (favorite ramen spot in DC, and I've been to several), the portions are perfect (full and satisfied and cozy, not too full and hating yourself haha), and the value is hard to beat. I'll probably be back within the next few weeks honestly. Love this place!
Great food, great service. Convenient spot if you are catching a show at the 9:30 club.
Food was delicious!
Great food--but was seated almost 45 minutes after my reservation. To the staff's credit, they comp'd our drinks and starters. Delicious food and great servers.
Exceptional ramen, exceptional service. My favorite ramen to get is the spicy shiyo with a spice bomb and butter. We tried their french fries which were delicious though on the salty side due to probably the soy sauce. The crab ragoon was tasty and cripsy.
Authentic broth was rich and delicious. Fun cocktails and attentive but not over bearing servers. Great place to people watch too!
Worst host ever! Super rude!
I have been to Haikan a few times and I am never disappointed. I love the vegetarian ramen with the vegetarian spice bomb. This is my favorite ramen spot. Thanks so much!!
Wonderful Service, Great food, Beautiful surroundings, everything was great.. best date night
Very tasty Ramen, great ambience and value.
The food is always excellent. The poutine is a delicious appetizer, and my fave is the spicy shoyu ramen with an added spice bomb and butter. It's amazing.
Carl is always awesome. Food is excellent!
Haikan is wonderful for lunch, dinner, happy hour, etc. It's a great little spot to get a full meal for a decent price.
One of my go to places for great food and fun vibe.
I tried Haikan for the first at the recommendation of a friend who is a regular. It was also a my first time having pho. The service was prompt. The server was courteous and helpful. The food was flavorful. I would certainly return.
Heidi is so personable and professional. Carl is amazing to work with!
Good place for happy hour and ramen.
Carl always on point and very friendly. The food is awesome!
Carl is the man, and the food is excellent!
Love it!! Will be back as often as possible.
We happened to be there at Restaurant Week and decided to go for their Restaurant Week special, which was three small plates of various ramen, followed by mochi ice cream. Everything was great -- but I don't think I would opt for three plates of ramen again, even if small -- we were stuffed, and that was even with taking most of the last plate home with us. But that was our only issue. We sat outside, which made for a quiet meal and easy conversation -- it was far noisier inside, even quite early in the evening.
I wish I would have sent back the ramen the included canned tuna. It was horrible and the smell was repulsive. Also a Japanese restaurant that tries to mix Italian classics with traditional ramen shouldn’t exist. Their carbonara ramen was all wrong. For dessert, they cut up one Mocchi ice cream ball per person. Definitely the worst ramen shop I have been to in DC.
Staff are amazing, food was amazing, great birthday!!!
Great happy hour prices, crab wontons, and vegetarian ramen. Too much ramen dishes however for the restaurant week menu.
Too loud in there! But not sure what you can really do. People are just loud. Love the food and service is 💯
We highly recommend it. Delicious food (ramen) at a very reasonable price. Great service and nice outdoor tables to sit at in spacious area.
Absolutely love Haikan. Always a treat and as former NYers we LOVE their late hours. :)
