The Stagecoach Inn is in the process of remodeling and expanding. The restaurant was in the first phase and is open. Part of the lodging opened up over Labor Day weekend and the selling out of certain entrees on the Sunday before Labor Day was a testament to that fact and the lack of preparedness for the larger influx of patrons. Our server was pleasant but disappeared for stretches of time. She brought a bowl of poblano corn chowder but no spoon to eat it with. Instead of returning right away with a spoon, it took her about 5 minutes. When we asked for the check, she took 10-15 minutes to bring the check and another 5-10 minutes to process the payment. As for the food, it was ok but nothing exceptional. The chowder was very thin and not on the thick side like chowders usually are, but the flavor was good. The arugula in the strawberry and arugula salad was almost nonexistent but it had plenty of spinach. The chicken was slightly over cooked and very salty; I also did not think the fresh parsley complimented the dish. I was hoping for a better experience as the locals said it had really improved from where it was before the renovations.

This newly remodeled restauranr ro look like it did 50 yeats ago - but more open —has a very friendly & knowledgeable staff. We were VERY. Happy with the wait staff answers to our Q re suggested meal ( BBQ shrimp dish) AND desert (ice cream on top of large brownie)—and my traditional choice of chicken fried strak, mashies & beans.
I drove on this trip from the El Paso area to the Austin / Salado area- and tried over 10 places with chicken fried steak. The Stagecoach Ranked in the top 2 (other was in Alpine, TX)
We WILL beck. Also love how the centuries old trees are displayed inside small courtyards in parts of the building. And around the grounds.
And as soon as the newly redone rooms are opened— we will also try those!!! Thanks

I have been to the Stagecoach Inn dozens of times prior to it closing and was very anxious to try it again. I enjoyed seeing a set menu to choose from, but also enjoy the 'legacy 4 course meals. The menu is more modern that in the past, but loved that they still have the Strawberry Kiss dessert and the tomato aspic. Both were wonderful, but the tomato aspic serving size is much smaller than it used to be. Overall, they have done a great job with the remodel and menu. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyed it before and anyone who has never been.

The remodel is very nice. There were four of us to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. We were seated in a room that had a large table of people that were celebrating something as well but they were so loud we couldn't hear one another talk. Our waiter was very kind but never came back to check on us once we got our food. We ordered the hush puppies which were wonderful and deviled eggs which were horrible. Our main course was prime rib which was tough and had no flavor. It came with garlic mashed potatoes which were very good. Mother had chicken fried steak which was so stringy and tough she couldn't eat it. Ordered herbed green beans as a side and they were not cooked and no flavor at all. We did have a side salad that was good. Overall we were disappointed to spend $120 for food that should have been spectacular. Won't be going back any time soon.

Nice meal. We had a reservation, and were on time, but we were seated right next to the kitchen entrance when the restaurant was almost empty. Not sure why. The turkey was great, the black-eyed peas under-done (aka crunchy), the green beans lovely. The biscuits and sausage and the bacon were decadent. Our server was polite and informative and mostly attentive -- not sure how the service would be if the restaurant was truly busy. Lovely ambiance.

A year ago the food was fantastic. I have been back 5-7 times since and it's been a slow plunge into the weeds. Is there no chef around All the time to check what leaves the kitchen? I hope Stagecoach gets its act together before Inn reopens or there will be no reason to stay. Good luck!

We drove from Dallas for Sunday brunch. I made reservations in advance and we were the second group in the door. We were seated at the two top in the hallway area which was not too appealing. We did ask to be moved because the air was too cold. The MOD (I believe) had seated us. He seemed put out by our request and said - you’ll have to sit at a small table if I move you. I told him we were already at a small table and that wasn’t the problem. We then ordered apps - the hush puppies and the bacon. Both were delicious.
My husband ordered the poached egg over the bacon grits. He asked our server Matt to request that the yolk was runny. When our food was delivered the egg white was runny & underdone. He asked Matt to have it redone. From that point we did not see Matt again until he brought our check. We waited almost 20 minutes before the dish came back to the table. The grits were cold and you could see the indentation where the previous egg had been removed. The dish had sat out till the egg was redone, so it was cold and dried out. The dish had been brought to the table by the runner and when my husband pointed out the overdone egg, she said all she did was bring food out and there was nothing she could do. At this point we were able to get the attention of the MOD. My husband explained the problem, and he asked if he could get him something else. My husband asked for the 2 egg breakfast which was listed as 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. In short order, the runner brought him a side of scrambled eggs and a side of bacon. My husband told her he had asked for the breakfast and she said the manager had asked the kitchen to prepare the 2 sides. WE WERE DONE! Matt had never come back to check on us during the entire time. The manager did comp my husband’s meal but that did not compensate for the poor service or for the fact that we weren’t able to eat our meal together. We have frequented the Stagecoach in the past but likely won’t again.

I’m my opinion it has been beautifully remodeled. The best of the old juxtaposed with classy new.
You wld think Joanna Gaines had gotten ahold of it. Almost. Strawberry kiss was wonderfully remastered. Just be opened to modernization and you will love it. When I took my mom to visits it recently after not seeing it for years she loved it but the group room should have doors to shut to keep the noise down. Kids were running and I saw a couple leave because of it. Not good when simple doors cld remedy.
-My favorite is the arugula and strawberry 🥗 slalad add shrimp. Chicken fried steak as good as ever
-The peach cobbler in a tiny cauldron was heaven with a cinnamony oatmeal crunchy topping and don’t let it fool u. It looked small but it went on forever.
- Shld change back to the chicken broth with hush puppy sticks. Everyone around me was saying the same thing. Bring them back.!! A tiny thing can make old faithful customers feel wanted. Young and old.
-And look at this killer brownie. We cldnt finish it all. Wonderful.
-And nice for just coffee and dessert with wonderful cozy little nooks to sit at.

Food was great for the most part. Green beans not to our liking. Menu a bit confusing took some reading. Good service helped to understand the menu. Ate there the day the old facility closed. Miss the over all old facility. Felt warm and welcoming. But time moves on and we shall get use to the new.
From what was explained to us in time the entire complex is going to be great.

We drove from Austin to Salado for Fathers Day. When we arrived at 12noon, our reservation time we were
Told our table would be ready in 10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later we approached the hostess and asked about our reservation. There were multiple tables available when we were seated. Our waiter was attentive
And did a good job but we were disappointed that you were out of several menu items because of the crowd that visited the previous day. Our food was a disappointment - the potatoes were cold.
We had hoped to order the 5 course meal but we were told that you are not currently serving it. Considering it was a holiday we would have assumed that you would have stocked up On your menu items.

Laid back and high quality; vintage Texas class. The only challenge, and it is temporary, the resteraunt address is shared with the Inn which has significant construction and renovation with blocking fences, that can let GPS-only navigation trap you in. Insure you are approaching ON Main Street itself - not entering the complex from highway side. Won't matter when construction is done in a few months... So go to this superb venue, service, and food.

I am so happy that the Stagecoach Inn restaurant is open, again, and I was not disappointed in the new iteration. The restaurant has been refurbished, with a rustic Texas look, and they have retained many of the favorite menu items albeit with a contemporary twist. The pork chop served with black eyed peas and kale was outstanding as was the chicken fried steak. The strawberry kiss is still on the menu, and the chess pie was outstanding. I will definitely return when I am in the area.

Great Mother’s Day Buffet. Stagecoach has a big following so we were a bit disappointed not to see the Strawberry Kiss or little hot water corn bread sticks air broth. These are a must. Your clientele is older and looks for these items. Good food at the buffet and the renovation is beautiful— the cocktails were wonderful and the Rose was a nice touch!!! Keep it up we need to bring Salado back to life!!!

Old customer from several years ago. Renovations were nice, attractive. Could do without the "upscale" music. Not my idea of dinner music. Wife and I both ordered chicken fried steak. On the greasy side, and not crispy breading. Sides (mashed potatoes and green beans) were very good. Hush puppies different recipe but good. Strawberry Crisp still good. Wait staff was very cordial, attentive, and responsive. Not pushy. Pleasant dining experience but background music as previously stated would not be my first choice. Will try again.
