I'm sad to see this place go but it was a hidden gem within the Friendship/East Liberty area. The food is a bit over priced for American cuisine, though the ambiance was really magnificently rustic. Our waitress took our order without a pen and pad so it was understandable that some of our orders were slightly messed up. Feeling bad, our waitress gave us a round of tequila shots on the house as a kind gesture for the mistakes from the kitchen. Her kindness made the experience all the better.

This was our second trip to Prairie and it was just as good the second time as the first. The fried green tomatoes were outstanding! The Woodford Mule is honestly worth a visit alone. I haven't tried any other drinks even though the drink menu looks really interesting because the Mule is so good.

The food is unremarkable and quite bland. Everything needs more sauce, such as the chicken and meatloaf. They are too dry. I've been there twice and both times I ordered the chocolate cake and both times it was frozen!

Our reservation for father's day brunch was very nice. My dad loved the pecan maple French toast which included fresh berries. I enjoyed a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a large (burger sized) homade biscuit, along with potatoes. And my mom had the traditional breakfast with eggs , bacon, sausage, and potatoes. It was all very good. The service was very good, but the kitchen was a little slow for the small crowd they were serving. Over all great experience as we got to enjoy the out door patio. We'll be returning soon to try some of the drinks and dinner menu!

This could be a great place but for a Friday night, it should be packed & was barely filled. Despite being barely filled, it took a very long time for the entrees to arrive. The menu is interesting and the food was very good. New marketing techniques may help. This could be a great place but word is not out.

we went on a warm weekday evening - sat out on the patio, which was a little noisy as it was close to the road, but not terribly so. The Brussels sprouts gratin was perfectly cooked and flavorful and just the right size for 2 people. I had the pasta orrechiete, vegetarian and the flavors were delicious, light and summery. My husband who had the trout said the same of his dish too. Dessert - bread pudding was one of the best we had tasted, as was the pecan cookie. the strawberry rhubarb pie in a jar was more rhubarb than strawberry, which is fine if you like rhubarb. the apple crumble however was a a bit of a disappointment as there was not enough crumble to offset the tartness of the apple. Service was great. Would definitely go back to try their other menu items at a different time and if they change it seasonally, we plan to visit again to check that out too

Too many restauants seem to be going eclectic or daring to carve out their own niche. Prarie is taking a great take, normal american dishes prepared at a level that most chefs arent capable of. A half roasted chicken with biscuits seems simple but this was unreal. Crispy skin, moist meat, the gravy underneath instread of drowing things and the best buttermilk biscuit ever.

For months, I've been dying to dine at Prairie, and I'm glad I finally made it here. From their menu online, I could see there were good vegetarian options which makes it a must-try. We came late on a Saturday evening, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The waitress was very friendly and checked in on us often. We ordered the cornbread as a starter. Overall, it tasted great: crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside. However, the jalapeño taste overpowered the rest of the flavors and made the cornbread spicier than I would have liked it to be. The green onions were an interesting touch. I was not a fan but my boyfriend loved it, so to each his own, I guess. I chose the Seitan Hoagie as my entree, and it was delicious! The seitan itself could have used more flavor. Most of the favor came from the marinated vegetable topping. I was excited to try the cauliflower "cheese" but there was barely any on the sandwich to be able to taste it - disappointing :( My boyfriend got the Prairie burger which tasted good except for the fact that the patty was unevenly cooked. He ordered it medium rare but the center looked like it was ripped right off the cow while the sides were too well done. Even though it wasn't a completely smooth ride, I would still recommend trying out this place. It's vegetarian-friendly and the prices aren't too bad for the quality of food you get. Definitely check it out!

I took my mom here for Mother's Day Brunch, and it was delightful! Both of us enjoyed our meals, which was basically modernized country food: Pecan pancakes, biscuits, and bacon were in our meals. When the bill arrived, I was amazed at how little it cost too.

Prairie made our Mother's Day brunch very enjoyable! I loved my chicken and waffles, my husband and I enjoyed the cocktails. My kids loved their mocktails and my younger ones ate the kids' farmer breakfast with gusto. They even tried food from my meal. My oldest had the granola and spring salad and loved it. We would go back.

I was pleasantly surprised by Prairie. We were Verde fans, but Prairie's food is just as good. I had the salmon and farro which was excellent! Everyone in our party was thrilled with their choices, but entrees were a little pricey. Price was my only complaint, but overall a great experience. Love the new decor and menu!

We had been looking forward to getting together with our best friends to try Prairie for the first time. Sadly, we were significantly disappointed. Every dish we tried, including the side salad, and chicken n' biscuit, was overly seasoned and almost intolerably salty --- and I love salt! Why the need to cover up the real taste of what's billed as simple comfort food?! While the menu had a couple of interesting items, it was, on the whole, too limited and devoid of healthy options. The quality of the food wasn't worth the price. The atmosphere is only slightly improved over the prior space when Verde was there. It's just not inviting. I don't think we'll be returning.

Prairie manages to be modern, hip, and friendly all while serving cutting edge comfort food. Yes, comfort food. 5 of us dined, each ordered different entrees and all were pleased with our respective plates. The burger does not disappoint and the bun remains intact; the risotto was creamy and the vegetables were al dente; the pork tenderloin was scrumptious and the accompanying beans & rice delicious; the salmon was cooked perfectly and the orrechiette was flavorful and hearty. We shared a mac 'n cheese appetizer, which was to die for...cocktails, beer and wine list also did not disappoint. I can personally vouch for their take on the moscow mule and red sangria. The service was excellent. I loved the straight forward, unfussy approach to updating the old standards.

I was really looking forward to trying Prairie because I was a fan of Verde and I love Tender. However, 50 dollars later and I'm not really sure what I paid for. I got the seitan sandwich, which was supposed to come with cauliflower cheese and marinated vegetables, but it didn't. It was the driest sandwich I've ever had, despite really awesome fries. The bourbon pours were super stingy, and for a bourbon bar, I was not impressed at all with the selection. Nothing I hadn't heard of, a lot of Jim Beam, Johnny Walker, etc. The cocktail list was not super creative, but the drinks we got were very good. The service was great, if a little slow at times, and our waitress was super sweet, knowledgeable about the drink menu, and accommodating. I most likely wouldn't come back, though. It's not right for the price. I'd rather spend the same money at his other place, Tender, where everything is always perfect.

This new place is in the space previously occupied by Casa Verde. Although I am sorry to see them go, the new restaurant has a nice menu, and the décor is progressive and comfortable. My college aged son had the Prairie Burger and really liked it. I had the Skauna Bay salmon, which was grilled to perfection, crispy on the outside and soft and flakey on the inside, without being overcooked somehow. The fish was delicious, although the red beet coulis was a little heavy and overpowering for delicate tasting fish. the wild rice was tasty, and the cake and ice cream was a great way to finish. It was large and my son and I shared it. I will come again with my wife sometime.

Everything was fine at Prarie to start with. The drinks were fine, the cheese board was great, and my partners meal, the $20 bacon-wrapped meatloaf was well presented and very tasty. However, the most expensive item on the menu, the $28 Steak and Potatoes, was truly mediocre. I had the steak cooked medium well, and t came to me medium. It was extremely tough to cut into, even tougher to chew, and the paltry amount of potatoes and sprouts was pathetic. The plate it was served on reminded me of an Eat 'N Park plate, and honestly this plate wouldn't belong at Eat 'N Park for how lousy it was. For an $90 tab, it was not worth the cost.

Prairie's claim to fame is the quality of their food. Quality food, cooked just right. Servings are large and the atmosphere is just right, neither too loud nor too formal. Downsides: taste is just slightly (very slightly) subpar for a nice restaurant. A little pricey (only a little) given the quality level.

There were 4 of us in our party and we went on a Tuesday night. We shared the Pennsylvania Cheese Board and Kettle Corn Basket for appetizers. Both were very good. For my entree, I ordered the Pappardelle and Sausage and it was so delicious and filling. I also had the Squash soup before the pasta so I was too full to have dessert. All of the food was outstanding and so was the service. The drinks were tasty and they have a nice beer selection too. I would definitely go back.

I met a friend for dinner during the week. Easy to get a table. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The menu is small but has a nice variety. Chicken and biscuit was delicious. Perfectly fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and tender and moist inside. My friend had the pork shoulder and that was delicious too. Only complaint is one I have of most places. They served a lovely cheese tray but it had 3 or 4 small toasts on it which wasn't enough for the amount of cheese . We asked for more and got a dish with 3 more. Why so skimpy on the bread? Otherwise, everything was very good. Definitely going back for the fries I was watching people eat.

My wife and I had a Valentine's Day dinner at Prairie in the Friendship neighborhood of Pittsburgh. They serve a variety of American dishes. Entree prices vary from 20 to 30. They offer a wide variety of cocktails, draft beers and "mocktails" for those guests that don't drink. The staff was friendly, courteous, and efficient. The food was awesome. We opted for the price fixe menu, so each of us got an appetizer, entree, and dessert. My wife also got a cocktail and a glass of wine. The Brussels sprouts with bacon and Parmesan cheese were perfectly roasted. The two squash soup was excellent. Entrees were also excellent. She had the steak and roasted vegetables and I had the salmon. Everything was picture perfect and flavorful. The spicy triple ice cream dessert was decadent and the spicy chocolate ice cream definitely lived up to its name. The chocolate covered strawberries were also good. We would definitely go there and have already recommended Prairie to family members that like to dine out often.
