What Insiders Are Saying
Great Greek food outside of Greektown. What a novel idea.
Romantically warm glow of an atmosphere. Wonderfully well executed dishes. Great service. We will return.
Great Greek food!!!! I liked the modern touches on traditional recipes.
Food was excellent. Noise level was low in the seats by the window.
This restaurant is unlike any Mediterranean food that I've gotten! It's very authentic and the interior decor is so cozy. The service is slow, but in a good way. We were there for almost 2 hours, sharing many dishes -- you feel like you're at your grandma's house which just happens to be super fancy.
I'm a vegetarian and felt overwhelmed with all the choices! I would say the menu is 50/50 -- half veggie, half everything else.
The dishes we tried were:
TZATZIKI: really simple and delicious. The house-made pita was great. Rating: 5/5.
BAMIES LADERES: baby okra! I make a lot of okra at home (classic Indian dish) and have never gotten it at a restaurant. This was really delicious and I wish I could get the recipe! Rating: 4.5/5
TURLU: the only vegetarian option under the entree section. This dish is a mix of eggplant, squash, cheese, tomatoes, and other deliciousness. Rating: 4/5
KAPNISTO XOIRINO ME PSITA MILA: pork belly. I did not try this but my husband and his coworker did seem to enjoy it.
KEBAP YIAOURTLOU: lamb. I did not try this either but this was my husband's favorite dish.
IOANNINAS PEYNIRL: mushroom flatbread. I did not like this much, it was a bit too salty and just not an exciting dish like the rest. Rating: 2/5
I don't think I'll necessarily go back here (too many good food in Chicago to repeat restaurants) but would recommend it to others for an authentic Greek food experience!
holy smokes, our meal was absolutely delicious, run don't walk to Taxim
We were seated then ignored for 15 minutes at which point we asked for a server. I want to like this place but they had too many misfires and several basics are wrong. The food is prepared very well and is tasty, however, dishes come out sporadically within a course. Not sure why sides were served before the mains of which 2 of 3 were served and finished before the third came out. . Skimpy on the bread then charges $3 when requesting more (and they bring 1 pita for five of us!)- bad form at these prices. Portions are small and the place is loud, though visually appealing. No obvious manager apparent or around. Kinda explains why we can get a last minute reservation on a Saturday.
Fantastic, warm, and attentive service!
Excellent, hidden in plain sight gem of Wicker Park
Octopus was better than any in chicago
Whitney is the best love this place!!
Food was ok, service was slow. Not a good value for the quality of food and the price
Our waitress did not care about our experience whatsoever. She didn’t check on us during our meal and only brought out new plates after we had already eaten our desert and were ready to pay. Luckily for us, we enjoyed the rooftop setting, as there were many heaters setup and the music was at a steady volume. We enjoyed the eggplant and the lamb kebab. The fried mussels were very fishy but the batter was great! We’d come back for sure but would request a different waitress.
Delicious, interesting food. The Greek wine was great.
the food was delicious and our server was amazing! get a table at the terrace!
Das Essen war hervorragend!
Service started out great We were only ones there at 6:30 Service rapidly declined as business picked up Took 2 hours to complete meal Deserts were awful A lemon pudding wouldn’t have been recognizable if it weren’t for the slice of fresh lemon that accompanied it Pricey for what you get would not recommend it
Really nice Greek food with a twist. Had a wonderful service, food was fresh, will go back for sure.
Worst meal in Chicago I’ve ever had! It was a disaster. Terrible service, food came cold, waitress dropped a dirty knife on my friend, and a lamb chop was raw.
We were excited to try this place as it is in a great location and has a fantastic roof top. We arrived on time for our reservations. Seated quickly however it took 25 mins to get our first drink. My husband and I thought someone was playing a joke on us. We watched as multiple staff members walked by our table. Then we had to finally get someone to take our order. I would say maybe that the staff wasn't sure who the table was assigned to but we noticed this was happening to the surrounding guests also. They had plenty of staff available. After we finally received our drinks, we then ordered our main dishes. It was taking so long that we tracked down our server and asked for an appetizer. Bread- which then took 10 mins. Once the main courses came out, both were presented well however the chicken was way, way over cooked. Almost rubber. Sad to write this review but after spending $150 for two people plus a tip, we would have hoped for more.
The food was AMAZING! Couldn’t understand anything on the menu but everything we ate was delicious. The rooftop was awesome. Highly recommend. Will be back!
Everything about our experience was incredible - we will most certainly be back!
Food was mediocre, service non existent even though we were the only customers in the store, too expensive for what they offer. Not a true Greek place as it has a great influence of middle east-Turkey.
Friend and I went to Taxim for a late-night dinner. The service was pretty poor - we had to ask for napkins, the appetizer that came out was wrong and we had to flag someone to ask for it to be corrected. The rest of the food was pretty good but nothing memorable.
Everything was delicious! Just returned from a trip to Greece and the food here was just as good! Service was excellent. Nice wine list. Decor was interesting. Lively space.
They were worried to sit us outside with rain in the forecast, however it didn’t rain. Once we were seated it took about five minutes to be greeted. They forgot one of our two appetizers, after the first appetizer was brought to our table our waitress disappeared for a good 20-30 minutes. Much like us, the table next to us was wondering where she went. Finally our waitress acknowledged us and with the fear of having to wait even more we asked for the bill. Of course, the bill had the second appetizer that we never received which was thankfully taken off the bill once we had mentioned it. Honestly, was really hoping for a good rooftop experience but will say the service in our first experience will likely keep us from coming back.
Came here on a weeknight and wanted to sit up on the rooftop. The indoor space was empty but the roof was filled with people!
It tooka while for a server to finally come and ask us for our drinks and order but it was quite busy. We ordered two red wines and three dishes - calamari, grilled shrimp, and duck gyro. We were hoping to have the cauliflower dish but they were out of that. The food was really really good. The shrimp was grilled to perfection and the calamari tasted really great (especially for someone who doesn't usually like calamari).
I would definitely come back here again for the food. I hope the service speeds up a bit.
Loved the rooftop . Good food . Fun . Good for people watching . Interesting menu options
One of my favorites restaurants in all of Chicago. Not your typical Greek fare but every dish we've had has been a hit. Whenever we have guests in from out of town this is always on the rotation. Love the rooftop seating. Small but very interesting wine list that the staff can help you with. Highly recommended.
Always fun to sit on Taxim's rooftop, and when the weather is nice you can't beat the location and wide range of mezzes!
So loud inside it was difficult to have a conversation
Such a gorgeous restaurant! The pace was leisurely but not slow, and the outdoor seating was pleasant with the beautiful weather. We especially loved the food - weren’t sure what to expect when we ordered, but both our dishes were delicious!
Had an excellent experience at Taxim, on the rooftop deck. Wanted to reserve the next dinner before we left. I highly recommend the grilled octopus and lamb chops. Next time I will save some room for desert! I usually drink Sauvignon Blanc and they had something comparable that was delicious! Ask James- he’ll know which one it is. He was our first class server!
Can’t wait to have another dinner here!
Took daughter and her family for her birthday. We have been there previously and loved everything about the place. This time, no air conditioning so room was uncomfortably warm. Service was inattentive and unfocused. Food was very good but other issues really spoiled the evening. Probably won’t go back.
I love bringing people here. It's a great sharing place, it always pleasantly surprises guests, and the food is consistently good!
Very nice outdoor patio. Romantic and quaint. Wait staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Overall great experience and would recommend to any of my friends/family.
Unique and interesting take on Greek food. Enjoyed the rooftop deck, where it was quiet. Main dining room was very loud. Great service.
Great place to explore Greek cuisine!
Nice Greek menu - excellent service, would definitely come back!!!
Excellent Mediterranean menu that was unique and flavorful! Waitress guided us as to what to try and she was spot on! We ordered a few appetizers and entrees and shared among 5 people. It had a Gourmet choices for Mediterranean menu. Just so different and much better than the basic Falafal and Souvlaki! Prices not cheap, $10-$15/entree, so bill adds up. But was so worth a special occasion. Wines were great too! And the desserts! Out of this world!
It took us an hour to even get an appetizer which was olives.
