The Mooring Restaurant
Friday & Saturday 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM
Took my wife and daughters to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Food and service were first rate but after spending $200+ for lunch it was very irritating to pay $14 to park in the lot in front of the restaurant. Even if they don’t own the lot they should find a way to validate parking for at least a couple of hours. It will be Castle Hill next year, also great food and plenty of free parking.
I was very disappointed with the baked stuffed lobster. I was looking forward to a tasty seafood stuffing for that price and got scallops and shrimp with dry breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. Not a New England treat at all. The Cesar salad had a strong vinegar taste for the dressing. The bag of doughnuts were good and different. I enjoyed the key lime tart too. It was my first time there. Probably the last.
While it was Newport Restaurant Week and also a holiday weekend, The Mooring was overly crowded. There was barely enough room to navigate between tables; having an end seat, there was continuous bumping into the back of my chair by both staff and patrons. Our meals, however, were deliciously prepared and our server was attentive and efficient.
It was very good! Nice view of the water and service was excellent! It was restaurant week so it was a good deal for $35!
The food was wonderful.
Excellent service. They were gracious about reseating us when the outdoor area became too cool, and the table service was very professional. It was loud on a Saturday night, but it's a pretty, festive environment. Food was good (not great) and I'd go again.
Visiting Newport. Excellent dinner!
Nice view, decent food, excellent service, limited parking
Great food, service and atmosphere! Having to pay $14.00 for parking not so good!!
Great lunch during restaurant week
Cod was over cooked and food was way too salty
Beautiful location, great service, lively atmosphere.
Tracy our server was amazing!!
Ivonne was my waitress. I was in town for a conference and the concierge at the Marriott highly recommended Moorings. Meredith said moorings was one of the first to have a gluten free menu.
Great waterfront dining with special ambiance with warm friendly staff. Good spot for celebrating a special occasion.
Food was incredible. There was a gluten-free menu so that I did not have to guess at what was safe. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed. We sat by the water and our waiter was wonderfully attentive. Was a fantastic experience!
Food was good but not great. We started with the tuna which was lacking flavor. My husband got the surf and turf with lobster tail which he thought was good, and I got the lamb with sweet potato gnocchi which needed salt (and I don’t put salt on anything). The service was great though. Recommend 22 Bowen’s over the mooring
Poor service and food quality. It was restaurant week and I would never go back. Waitress never checked on us and we waited 40 minutes for appetizers.
Too loud for us. View was great..food was too pricey for what it was.
I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was one of the worst meals I have ever experienced. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Try the Donuts!!! You won't be disappointed! The swordfish and lamb were amazing too!!
Restaurant week so particularly crowded and noisy. Nice selection . Mostly attentive wait person but forgot to refill our water glasses.
Latest visit not up to par- service very slow so cost me $21 to park. Food was tasty but presentation poor. Felt like because it was restaurant week we weren’t important enough.
Great food as always and great service, staff is pleasant and they aim to please! Parking lot available on site for $5.00 so worth it. One of the best restaurants in Newport, perfect distance to walk downtown or to Bowen’s Wharf. Best sunsets while having dinner!
Food is incredible and service is excellent!
We had long standing reservations for our anniversary. No mention at all from the hostess. As it was a Monday night it was not very busy. She seats us next to the kitchen when there were so many better tables. we asked to move. They happily changed our seat still it was grand central station walking by us every second. The food was mediocre nothing special at all,
wish self parking in front was free for the value of the overpriced food
This was our first visit to Newport and this restaurant was highly recommended. It certainly didn't disappoint.
Great food and service. Good views of the waterfront and activities. Parking could be a pain and expensive at times but worth going to The Mooring.
Very nice selection of local oysters. I had salmon and spaetzle. The fish was nicely prepared but the spaetzle were tough and chewy. Spaetzle should be tender and buttery.
We LOVED the Mooring! We have been to Newport several times and I don't know why we didn't try this place before! Excellent food and unbeatable views
Great food, service and ambience! Our go-to restaurant for celebrations! It never disappoints!
This restaurant came highly recommended, but I fear it was from years ago. My group of three each had issues - The chips with the fish and chips were not good - the steak was mediocre, and for myself, I was appalled that I could not request the lobster be removed from the shell by the kitchen - it was explained that they are "too high volume" for that -I have never been to any place that refused this service, since with the right utensils it would take just seconds. It was about 9:00 and it was not that busy. I feel a restaurant needs to be known for their food and service, but unfortunately these were lacking on both accounts. I ended up with the "bag of donuts" which were all bread and lobster and shrimp bits so small they were undetectable and a Caesar salad which was just OK - I feel this place is known for it's location/views - if it was across the street it would be less popular. The poor server was very nice - it was not her fault.
Our server at our table was very good. Unfortunately, when we finished dining and went to the bar for a cocktail the bartender was borderline rude. After finishing one round of cocktails, he went out of his way to ignore us when we wanted a second round. I had to literally call out to him because he was immersed in breaking down the bar and watching the World Series. The food was decent, the pricing OK, the ambiance also OK.
our second time at this restaurant. wonderful view of the harbor, and food was great, although their menu is not an extensive one.
We weren’t able to get reservations until 9pm when making them the day before but it was worth the late dinner for us. The food was delicious! It’s loud in the restaurant but was tolerable. Our server wasn’t the most attentive but there are other staff to bring your food and clear plates, etc. I was new to cracking a whole lobster and “the lobster doctor” was great and helped me through every step of it without making me feel dumb. Definitely will visit again if we are ever in Newport again!
couldn't have been better. we come in may and october and have for the last 15 years. our meal was one of the best we've ever had there. our waiter dan, was most enjoyable and efficient. looking forward to may.
We had dinner here in late October. Our waiter, John, was phenomenal. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the area. Our food was delicious. We had the bag of donuts appetizer, pan seared scallops special, and filet Oscar style. Our desserts of creme brûlée and keg lime tart were also excellent. We would definitely dine here the next time we are in Newport, and we would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
Even in off-season, the Mooring continues to deliver great food and service in an unparalleled location.
Visited Newport for the first time last week and ate at Moorings twice. My only issue is the party which ended up being $21 each time I visited.
