Sadly our visit was on the last day Maison Akira was open. After 20 years, Chef Akira is opening another restaurant in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles. Today's last Sunday brunch was excellent as always. The hot dishes are of high quality and the meats as always are seasoned and cooked to perfection (prime rib, lamb, turkey). The salads, sides, and desserts are all wonderful. Champagne and mimosas are a perfect complement to brunch.

The food was mediocre and the menu didn't describe things accurately in some cases. The very sweet waiters and busboys didn't know how to describe the menu either. The escargot is traditional and delicious, but I'd never go back even for that.

Love it! Sad that it's closing but will open a new place in Little Tokyo! I had my last brunch there this past Sunday, the brunch was wonderful as usual. I always have the roasted lamb, scalloped potatoes. Appetizers include the best sushi around and the most delightful desserts. Will miss Maison Akira, but look forward to the Akira's new venture DTLA!

The restaurant is moving to Little Tokyo. The new restaurant will be called Azay, located in Little Tokyo. Tonight’s dinner was special menu. The food was excellent. Our waiter Mary Cello was excellent. She checked on us often even though they were very very busy. The Chef and his wife came out to talk to every table. We will miss the restaurant dearly. We are looking forward to eat at their new restaurant.

It was Valentines Day weekend and there was a play that evening at the Pasadena Playhouse. It took use 30 minutes to get drinks and 90 minutes to get our food. Total time in the restaurant was 2.5 hours. The server was new and should have been shadowing someone. She did an admirable job, but had too many tables and was not setup for success. The food was good and my wife and I made the best of it.

Food was okay but not worthy of the $120 per person price. The pork belly Bouchée was uninteresting, same for the mushroom soup which included undistinguished pieces of black truffle. The filet mignon was less than fine quality although the Cabernet sauce was tasty. The best part of the meal was the dessert. For $330 out the door after adding only coffee and sparkling water we would have passed on it.

terrific food, nice ambience, great for a special occasion because the price is not cheap; service was not as attentive as you would expect given the caliber of the restaurant and the fact that there were only 3-4 other tables besides us; definitely would go back

This is the 5th time we have been to Maison Akira. On this occasion we visited during dineL.A. The appetizers (blue crab flan and braised pork belly "kakuni") and the desserts (callebaut chocolate mousse and matcha panna cotta) were all wonderful. My wife thought her sea bass "Loup de Mer" was cooked perfectly. I was disappointed in my Coq Au Vin Royal. I was really looking forward to this dish but the chicken was dry. This is the first time that one of their dishes was "off". We still love the restaurant and will return again.

The evening started off great with the delicious tasting menu. However, we have to wait so patiently for our chubby waiter to show up occasionally (probably he needs a few naps in between). My mom would like to have some honey for her tea but the waiting staff were no where to be found. The only waitress was too busy to tend to our table (of four). The rare moment our waiter showed up was a brief second with the tab, and please don’t expect a “fat” tip from us whatsoever. Maison Akira may have been around for so long because of the above average cuisine but definitely not for too long for the below par waiting staff. Au revoir!

Chef's tasting menu is a must, I would not have known what to order otherwise--except for the obvious. Chef Akira produced 4 hours of wondrous dining in which Japanese dishes (e.g. hamachi sashimi) sort of alternated with classic french (eg foie gras) culminating with sorbet and souffles. The wine pairing was immaculate including champagne, sake (granite no less), German, Californian, and chateau bottled claret. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either. Great value! I was pleasantly replete at the end and not inebriated. You can drive there of course, but Uber is better, then go in, sit down, and surrender to the friendly and knowledgeable service and the brilliant food.

This is the second time to this restaurant. The plate is way too hot to serve the food not because you might burn yourself. The Wayu beef was serving on a hot plate which makes the steak over cooked and it didn't taste any better than the Flat Iron steak. Also, serving Foie Gras on a hot plate will have too much oil. We brought Madien 2015 wine and it took them over 20 minutes to screw up. He was sweating and we offered to help. He said " it's fine" and he screwed up the cork so bad and still couldn't opened it. OMG!

My wife and I have dined at this restaurant for many years, usually with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, the restaurant hasn't held it's quality. We both ordered the Epicurean 7 course meal and the added Grand Marne(sp) souffle which requires 30 minutes to prepare. After 2 1/2 hours of getting each of the 7 course meal entries, they made us wait another 30 minutes while they prepared the souffles. I could go through each of the individual courses but it no longer matters. We will not be returning to what was once one of our favorite restaurants.

Unlike some chefs who own many restaurants around town or around the globe, this chef obviously takes great care with every aspect of food preparation as well as the dining experience. It's a small but elegant place, not too noisy, and very comfortable. Everything was outstanding including the very attentive service. It was also reasonably healthy. We had the 4 course tasting menu which was just the right amount of food and the portions were generous. I think it was an excellent value for French cuisine of this caliber.

Maison Akira used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena for the past couple of decades. Great food, professional and attentive services, and cozy atmosphere to have a decent dinner with someone special. We had a dinner recently and the service was totally inadequate. The meal was excellent but the overall experience was greatly diminished by an indifferent hostess and a disorganized service crew. I have no idea what happened to this restaurant. Whoever is managing this restaurant needs to roll up his/her sleeves and give serious training to the host, waiters and waitresses altogether.

My family and I came to Maison Akira on Wednesday night. We experienced major issues during dinner service. 1. The hostess pointed at the table from the front entryway with her finger and did not lead or show us there. 2. We asked for bread and butter three times. When it finally arrived there were two pieces of bread in the basket for a party of five. 3. After the entrees were served, no one came by to ask how the food was. 4. The wait staff refilled the water glasses on their own just once (when the check arrived). We had to ask on four separate occasions. We waited so long for someone to come around the table that we poured the water ourselves using the pitchers located nearby. 5. The server offered the souffle and Baked Alaska for dessert. He did not mention any other choices. When the bill arrived, we discovered supplemental charges for the desserts. The staff refused to take the supplemental charges off the bill.

this restaurant has been around so long, long before all the newbies and foodies came about. We went again last week with another couple and the food is so good and reasonably good size as compared to all the pretentiousness adopted by all these foodies frequented restaurants. Comparing to what we have here in Maison Akira with a much revered and super high priced restaurant in Culver City we went some weeks ago, while price is not a problem to me but I can see the hypocrisy in today's people. Akira's service may not be top notched or on par with those other restaurants but they sure made you feel so comfortable and at home.
