I guess the biggest disappointment was that the actual entree was a tiny medallion of venison. I don’t eat deer meat, and although the waiter did ask if we had any food allergies, it would not of occurred to me to ask what meat would be served. I went home and had some cheese and crackers since I was still pretty hungry.

I've had plenty of tasting menus so I'm familiar with a long dinner especially when there are 12 courses, but we got there at 7:50 for an 8pm reservation and we didn't pay the bill until 12:15. That's just too long. The portions are very small. I'm never one to complain about portions at a tasting menu, butmy wife and I were legitimately hungry at the end of the meal. When we arrived, we were placed in a small room upstairs that had 2 tables in it. We thought we might alone in the room, but were joined by a couple about 40 mins later. They were lovely people and I was happy to share the room with them. I was, however not happy that the restaurant decided to slow our coursing down until we were getting the same courses as the couple next to us that showed up 40 mins after we did. There was way too much time in between courses. The food was good, some dishes were very interesting, but some dishes I found more interesting than appetizing. The Danish bread is interesting but it's more grain and seed than actual bread and it was very very tough. The cured duck breast was served way to thick and made for way too salty of an experience. The pine fudge ball, with apple cider dust was very.,. pungent. Interesting but not very appetizing. The Alaskan king crab dish was served with very little other flavors and a high level of spice. I love spicy things so if I can tell you that something is spicy it is most likely very spicy for the average spice eater. Pheasant breast was good and the dry aged beef was delicious, but I think we were only served about an ounce of it. I didn't have a bad meal, but I wasn't impressed or in love with almost any of the dishes. Food was good but unlikely worth visiting again. Service was good except for their decision, intentional or not, to slow down our meal, turning a good 2.5 to 3 hour meal into a 4+ hr meal. Most likely won't go back, can't really recommend it with places like Bibou, Helm, Laurel, and Vetri scattered around Philadelphia.

In each of the last four or five years I have visited Philadelphia around the turning of the New Year. On each of these occasions I have been a member of a family party which has had a meal at the Marigold Kitchen. The meals have always been exceptional. But this year the current resident Chef offered the best meal to date. (The success was in part enabled by the outstanding waiting staff.) The tasting menu, which had a very clear Nordic theme, was exquisite. The diversity of flavors, odors, and textures were immensely affective. Thank you to the Executive Chef, Eric Leveille, for such imaginative preparations and to Ben our waiter for helping us to understand each work of art. It was an amazing experience. yours, Seamus Ross

Marigold Kitchen was one of those legendary restaurants to me. I couldn't wait to try it. It had been built up to mythical proportions by the time we went this year for the New Years Eve 14 course tasting menu. I was so disappointed. We were seated right by the front door. I immediately asked if there might be a better seat in the house and was told that it was the best. As the evening went on we found out he was right. Thank goodness we were by the door. Whenever the door opened we were spared our heated box. There was no atmosphere or style to the restaurant which surprised us. I expected a beautiful victorian house & it was very plain. Too bad the food & service didn't do enough to make up for it. Our Server, Angel was very personable & friendly. The service in general thought was awkward and poorly timed throughout the night. Before our reservations we made food issues clear such as 2 people who didn't eat red meat. We also told our servers and things were wrong 3 times. There were too many courses. Dinner was four hours. By the time dessert came, we were full and ready to go home. The last hour was painful for several reason. Drunk & very entertaining guests were exiting over the last hour of our stay but overall the atmosphere was lacking. We were there for over an hour before we asked if they could play some music in the room to break up the awkward silence. When they did, it was a little nicer. Luckily we brought enough wine to enjoy our evening. We asked our servers to put it on ice. They never did and by the end we only had warm. I'd never go back. c-

Been here a number of times, but first time with the new Chef, and they hit it out of the park with a New Year's Eve menu that was creative and really tasty. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a great way to ring in the new year. We enjoyed the meal enough that we're considering making dinner here a New Year's Eve tradition.

Overall our experience was a wonderful one. The one issue we faced was that the heat was turned up really high and all members of our party were sweating and even had to step out in the cold for a few minutes to cool down. We did ask them if it could be adjusted but nothing was done.

the food is interesting, beautiful, balanced, and flavorful. we did the smaller tasting menu and were surprised to find bread was counted as a course. there are also none of the amuse bouches you might have experienced at other tastings. if we go back again, we'd do the larger tasting menu because it's likely a better value and will leave you feeling more sated.

This long time foodie destination continues to provide a unique culinary experience that should not be missed. Each course is beautifully prepared and presented and provides guests with the chance to try foods and combinations of food not available elsewhere. Describing what we ate or even the ingredients just doesn’t do it justice. The tasting menu delivers one or two exciting bites after another - a foodie symphony. I wouldn’t normally order pheasant on a menu and actually have never tried it but it was the wild pheasant with elderberry, chestnut, sorrel and oats was to die for. Another highlight was the lompe with king crab, fermented chili and green strawberry. Chef Eric Leveillee clearly orchestrates one of the best meals in the city, which while a little out of the way from other top notch philly restaurants, is a can’t miss experience for anyone who enjoys good food.

I went with my boyfriend to Marigold Kitchen for our 1-Year Anniversary. A friend who had gone with family had suggested this restaurant to me many month ago, and it seemed the perfect time to try it out. It was absolutely perfect! They even brought out a little extra desert bite with a lit candle to celebrate our anniversary. Each and every course was incredibly unique, and had us guessing what would come next. We each had our favorite - Mine was the Porridge with Pickled Pumpkin and his was the Pheasant. I also want an entire plate of those crazy puffed cheese things. So delicious! The service was great! It was exactly clear if we had a specific server, or if it was communal. One gentleman did a great job and giving a bit of the history of the building and really explaining the dishes. Another gentleman was super friendly and carried on a great conversation with us. We will absolutely be back!

Outstanding would be an understatement, from the moment you enter the restaurant to the time you are ready to step out, you will be treated to impeccable service, undivided attention and a culinary spectacle melding flavors, tastes and textures. Chef Leveillee's creativity, imagination and execution is the result of his desire to push the envelope , not adhere to norms and profound respect for the ingredients he works with, it is a testament to his pure love and sense of adventure when it comes to food. As an individual who is wary of tasting menus ( I am still hungry by the time they are over) the portions were perfect, each course was carefully crafted and one could see the thought put behind each dish. Food is as much science as a spectacle of visual treat and Marigold Kitchen will not disappoint you. If you are expecting the everyday and mundane, steer clear, but if you are willing to give yourself a chance to mesmerized, amazed and surprised in the same breath and course then look no further. The staff is very mindful of allergies and health concerns and they ensure no matter what your request is , you still have an wonderful experience. A special mention to the amazing waitstaff and supporting employees, you know they take their work seriously when they ensure every fork and every knife after each course is placed with the same care , from first to last!

The timing of each course was perfect and the servers described the dishes specifically and with clear appreciation. The restaurant was very accommodating and seemed happy to offer variations- vegetarian, pescatarian, dairy free, etc. A very special food experience we've been talking about all weekend!

I brought my wife to Marigold's kitchen after walking by the restaurant every day for the past 4 years. We are definitely not ones to spoil ourselves by eating out but we wanted to try something new. I was apprehensive about spending a lot of money on a dinner for two with the opportunity cost of such a restaurant but I found it was more then worth it. I recently learned the technique of mindful eating and this restaurant was a perfect adjunct. I enjoyed every course with every bite being a new flavorful sensation of fall themed originals. Their service here was exceptional and they really made this special evening out with my wife a night we shall remember. "There's a world out there! Open a window, and it's there!"
