Italian
This neighborhood restaurant atop Queen Anne is cozy and intimate. As a nod to the restaurant’s literary namesake, Chef David Glass repeatedly impresses by doing so much from this tiny kitchen. The continually changing, Italian-inspired menu focuses on smaller plates and fresh, daily-made pastas, typically enjoyed family style in the warm, wood-clad dining room. Stop by the Queen Anne Farmer's Market before dinner, and you might see Chef Glass gathering ingredients for that night's menu. Have dinner at the bar and sip Prosecco while watching the kitchen create.

Amazing time with my wife for our anniversary. We ordered too much food as always and that made for a great bite to eat for lunch the next day. Great food, great drinks and we only wished that we had room for desert.

Really great experience. The staff was very flexible around dietary restrictions and fun to chat with. It was much noisier than expected, so it’s not exactly the best date spot, but the food is so good it makes up for it. I brought my boyfriend for his birthday. We got the gnocchi and were blown away by the amazing meat sauce that came with it. Definitely recommend. Their roasted squash is a delight. It’s warm and cozy enough to feel like a fall dish but the sauce brought out a lighter side. Finally, their sherbet was amazing. A larger dessert portion than we were expecting, so we unfortunately couldn’t finish it. A great place for an intimate celebration of around 6 or fewer.

The dishes were simply excellent and delicious. The ambience and fun and friendly. Even though we were given a water bottle at the table, they were quick to keep our glasses full. The bread is a must.

We had a lovely dinner with 3 colleagues after a couple of intense working days. How to Cook a Wolf provided us with great ideas about food & wine and we had a splendid dinner. The food was cooked to perfection. Unlike most US companies where raw food is not served that well or more to medium, this restaurant was able to provide us with superb tasting raw food as well. Loved it! Whenever in Seattle, I will definitely go again!

Highly recommend sitting at the bar - it’s fun to watch them make cocktails and half the kitchen is visible! The menu changes often but seasonally (late fall/winter) they feature a bolognese - each year is different and this 2017/18 one is TO. DIE. FOR. It started with spaghetti and now is being served with gnocchi. Life changing bolognese! Good variety of apps and delicious pasta! Great cocktails! Only wish they had a little better wines by the glass (I get the same one every time). We are slowly becoming regulars here - no complaints! PS the bread and butter is worth every calorie!

I had reservations for NYE. There was a fixed menu, which was posted online. The menu looked great, and I was excited for my fist meal at How to Cook a Wolf. The space is small and cozy. The staff were friendly enough. The food was terrible. The first course was 5-6 small plates for the table. Nothing stood out - very bland. The second course was pasta. The flavor was good but the pasta was so undercooked - it was basically raw. For the main course we had black cod and braised short rib. The cod was rubbery and the short rib was dry and tough (don't even get me started with the weird steamed then fried potatoes - inedible). For desert, I had a chocolate torte - I can confirm it was chocolate but it was otherwise unremarkable. As a heads up, gratuity is included at 20%. I would be totally fine with this amount, but it was added to the bill before taxes - so I was taxed on my gratuity as well as my food. This did not sit well with me. I'm not sure whether this was an off night or the cook was just really bored making the same dishes for everyone, but this was a terrible dining experience. For $250 for two people, I expected much more. With so much good food in Seattle, I'm shocked this restaurant is still here. I will not return.

We had an excellent birthday dinner. The service was friendly and the right amount of attention - not intrusive but always there when we needed service. Our server had great recommendations and was very accommodating. We hadn't been in several years but remembered why we love this restaurant so much. Great flavor combinations and an excellent selection of options on the menu. Highly recommend!

Really nice restaurant though ordering is a bit confusing. Everything we tried was fantastic and perfectly prepared. Would recommend to anyone. My only note is personal, I realize that low lighting is "romantic" but it's a shame the lights were so dim we could barely see some of our food. When i turned on my phone light everything was so colorful and beautiful!

This is the food "jewel" of the Nile...goodness this is good, the pasta is to die for and Holy canoli, the dessert is fabulous. Just turn down the music a bit, i know it pumps up the kitchen, but nice to have it quite quiet so you can hear the person across from you. Also, the SEAWOLF bread is the best of Seattle, of course you would find it. A neighborhood frequenter.

Smoked mussels were one of the best things I’ve ever eaten - smokey, a bit of salt, celery, grilled lemon, crema - all of these flavors not competing but layering perfectly. Did not expect it to change my life, but it did.

Do not visit How to Cook a Wolf if you plan to entertain friends, date, business associates. Since the 20% gratuity is mandatory and built into the final bill, the servers push hard to move out diners as fast as possible in order to turn over the tables quickly. I booked the the table for myself and business associate (just the 2 of us) for 6:45 pm on a weeknight. After ordering an expensive bottle of wine (over $120) and some apps within the first 10 minutes of sitting down, our server began hounding us for the remainder of our order, to the point that I finally asked her, "are you in a hurry to get this table back?" to which she responded, "yes, we do have other reservations for the table"--this statement, after only 30 minutes! At that, we finished our wine and apps, and took the check. I understand when patrons linger at a table way beyond what is reasonable (an hour and a half? two at the most?), but when you initially sit down looking forward to a casual evening with friends or family, only to have the server make it clear "you need to move it along" after 30 minutes? Not reasonable at all.

Came to HCW to celebrate my fiance's birthday, and SOOOO good. We ordered 2 recommended dishes, and 2 that we wanted to try, and we wanted to order another of each. Seems like you can't go wrong with any dishes! Service was great, food was great, and probably one of the more memorable dishes to date. Thanks HCW!

Noise level is on the higher side and quiet conversation is difficult to do, so I won't go in for "ROMANTIC" date here, unless there are less customers at the same time. Otherwise, the atmosphere is upbeat with warm cozy room, and food & drinks are all wonderful!

Outstanding food, outstanding service. Pricey but worth it. One complaint - we did not get a table even though I made reservation a day before, and confirmed later over a phone. Sitting by the bar was ok for that occasion. We even got more attention form a bartender than we would get from a waiter. A glass of bubbly on a house was a nice gesture. However if sitting at the table was preferable, it could turn into a major disappointment. On the other hand, the place is way too small and packed for anything "romantic". But then again, if you are a food aficionado, you will not be disappointed.

This spendy and trendy restaurant is a great choice if you want really good interesting food. I chose it to take friends from out of town to dinner. In searching for a restaurant I reviewed King 5's 'Where the Chefs Eat'. Chef Ethan Stowell is one of those chefs but another chef recommends his place. It is located in upper Queen Anne and is pretty small but I liked it for that reason. Cool interior, intimate feel, and friendly great service.

We had a wonderful meal at How to Cook a Wolf for my husband's birthday. This restaurant had been on our list for a few years so we had high expectations. It was everything we wanted it to be. Our server was fantastic and friendly! We shared a bunch of small plates and two orders of pasta for three people. The Brussels sprouts with some kind of spicy anchovy sauce were so good that we took our bread to the leftover sauce. The bread came with roasted garlic in balsamic and olive oil. We ordered a few other small plates and a couple of pasta dishes. Our server suggested a nice bottle of wine from Sicily because we asked to try something we weren't familiar with. It was delicious. We left room for the panna cotta and we were glad that we did. We'll be back!
