   Scaletta moved into the neighborhood at about the same time we did. It has long been our primary "home away from home" for simple, tasty, reliable food. Now it is gone, and we will miss it for a long time to come!

   I would love to recommend Scaletta but it closed for good the night after we had dinner there. We went, along with many other regulars from over the years, to wish the owner and the staff a fond farewell. Scaletta's closing is a real loss for the Upper West Side.

    I dine here every three months with a client who likes Sceletta. I find the food and service is solid but nothing great. He happens to like it a lot. On this occasion, they offered a special restaurant week menu. My client, who dines her a few times a month, asked if they would substitute and allow a Caesar salad which they would not since he ordered off the prize fixed menu. We asked the manager to come over and she explained that if she did it for him she would have to do it for everyone. This was a Monday night and there was one or two other tables at 5:45 pm and the rest of the restaurant was empty. My seafood pasta entree was $42 and very average. Caesar salad was $16. For those prices I would expect incredible food and a willingness to accommodate a simple substitution request. Overall, a decent restaurant but would not be in my personal top choices. That said, my client always enjoys it here and although he left a bit annoyed at the lack of flexibility, he did enjoy his meal. And in my book, the client is all that matters....

    The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing - best chicken parm I have ever had. There was plenty of people but the noise level was at a minimum. Restaurant itself and restrooms were very clean. I would definitely go back!

    Very nice Italian restaurant on the Upper West Side close to the park. The bartender has all necessary skills. Most professional wait staff. Welcoming atmosphere. The chef does wonderful things with veal. The wine list is small but nice. Solid and worth a visit. It's been there for years and it's reputation for reliable fare will keep it going many more years.

    Very nice restaurant. Wait staff wonderful, one gentlemen who brought menus and took order was profusely sweating and kept wiping his face of sweat and then picked my my glass to move it. Gross. He stunk of sweat. Other than that the food was unreal! I recommend the veal scalopini and the mango mousse for dessert

    Very good ambience. Food is not highly spiced and taste is natural. The noise level is excellent for having friendly conversation and the prices for food are good. drinks may be a little overpriced.

    For a supposedly upscale restaurant, the service was terrible. We were ignored for a long while and then after finally ordering, we were asked several times (once by our own waiter) to order. Even then after several requests to hurry things up, it took about an hour(!!!) for the food to come out. Others around us got served before we did even though they came after us, but were served by another waiter for the most part. Also, entrance steps are treacherous for anyone with any disability. Dinner and dessert tasted OK at least. The restaurant needs a lot of management attention to fix up. The cooking, at least, is OK.

    Food was decent - not bad but not great. Restaurant is very spacious and comfortable - they don't cram a bunch of tables in there so you feel like you are in top of your neighbor. For that reason the acoustics are quite good and very quiet & spacious compared to most nyc restaurants. The service was extremely slow, we had to keep flagging down our server to get him to do anything. Nice and polite, just not attentive at all. They are definitely pricier than they can get away with. $28 for spaghetti bolognese made of boxed pasta - not even fresh pasta - give me a break! I will say the lasagna was excellent.

    Food and service were both uninspired. Ordered shrimp scampi which is a very basic Italian dish. I did not recognize what I was given as it did not resemble or taste like shrimp scampi except that it had shrimp. Starter salad was completely boring - literally lettuce on a plate with some dressing drizzled on it. Waiters seemed annoyed.

    Had been here many times before, but the service this time was just awful. Food is solid, menu not updated in a long time, but that's what you go there expecting. Birthday dinner; three people. Seated, then waited endlessly for menus. Nobody looked at us. Water came over and said,Oh, have your ordered? " Strike one. Finished eating, dirty plates sat on table for 15 minutes. Nobody looked at us. We started waiving our arms. Strike two. Busboy starts clearing and we point out we were waiting 15 minutes. "I onkly have two hands" says he. Strike three. We complain to host. "What do you want me to do?" Strike four . He comped us two coffees on a $200 bill. Never again.

    Our experience started out ok, we were seated right next to a family with 3 small children who were loud and running around and into my chair all night. The table across from us were extremely rude to the waitstaff. The waitstaff seemed flustered as it was a busy night, and were not prepared for it. The food was ok. The appetizers were really good, our main courses were just ok. The Lasagna noodles were over cooked, but the portion size was large. My husbands dinner was not presented as it was described. It took 3 hours for dinner, which was fine for us as we weren't in a rush. However, the other guests made the time almost unbearable, which is not the fault of the restaurant at all, but did detract from our experience.

    Scaletta is a type of restaurant that is sadly becoming a rarity in NYC. It combines good food with a quiet, comfortable ambiance where you can actually converse with your dinner guests. The food is well prepared but don't expect cutting edge innovation. The service is the weakest point. While friendly and well-meaning, it seems overly chaotic with seemingly every server having a hand in serving every table. All in all though, they get the job done and we regularly dine here. Note: no grade inflation here, 5 stars are few and far between from me.

    We have been here several times. The food is great. In fact, we enjoyed leftovers the following day wishing we saved more from the night before. The service this time was lacking. Waited for our entres and then nearly had to tackle someone to get the bill. We were not given attention. That will not dissuade me from coming again. Also, they discontinue the cream cones. I was looking forward to that all day! Better luck next time.

    We were welcomed with the message that the kitchen was closed despite the fact that they have recieved notice of and were aware of that we had reserved a table at 8.00 pm. In line with that and due to no excuse other that the guy in charge had forgotten to take any action we have difficult to recommend this place to anyone.

    Despite having a reservation and coming 10 minutes early, it took 45 minutes to be seated. Then the service was so bad, the poor hostess had to hustle around to cover for the waiter.
