Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Tapas were very good and we enjoyed the outdoor patio in the back. Thank goodness they had big fans as it was extremely humid that night. I only wish the paellas we ordered were cooked a little longer. The shrimp and white fish was undercooked and could've used another 5minites. The tapas, though were amazing!

It was extremely Hot outdoors and the Fan above our table was Out of Order. I think the restaurant should be more prepared for Hot weather when dining outdoors. The paella was small in portion although it was supposed to be for 2. The food was tasty and drinks were great.

If you are a Paella restaurant that’s the thing you want to ensure you get right. Tapas were great, but very little care was taken with the Paella. They clearly went for speed over quality. Super heating the Paella pan and throwing (an inadequate amount of) boiled rice into the super heated pan and not paying attention actually caused the rice to burn and stick to the pan. They threw the shrimp, mussels, and fish on the top of the rice and brought it out to the table. The experience was that you could scrape about a quarter inch of the rice off with the seafood contents, but no one wanted to chisel rice for their plate so our party of five actually left about a third uneaten. Unfortunately, I watched the same scenario play out at the table next to us.

We went for restaurant week to try a new restaurant. We were looking forward to the paella, but it was just ok. The shrimp were overdone and the clams were not very good. The gambas appetizer and the desserts were good, especially the flan. The sangria was also very good. The service was friendly and attentive. They sat us under a fan which was nice initially, but unfortunately it made the food cold faster.

The air conditioning kept going from feeling great to basically being turned off on a very hot day. We had to ask that it be pumped up again but then it went down again so it was uncomfortable. I also felt the scallops were undercooked with the paella.

One of our favorite restaurants in the world. The star of the show is squid ink paella with seafood. It's always consistent and phenomenal. We also tried a few tapas: octopus, braised pork, and eggplant napoleon. Along with red sangria, everything was perfect tonight. If we lived in NYC, the Chelsea Socarrat location would be a weekly stop!

Food was delicious. Service excellent. We sat in the back patio area. Only think that was off, which was disturbing, was a rat that was spotted twice running through the outdoor dining area. The servers did not seem to be bothered by it. I would certainly return but I don't think I would sit in the outside patio area again.

I had a reserved high top and was notified the table was ready. When I check in with the hostess I was told there was no table and I could sit at the bar or outside. The Hostess attitude was dismissive and nasty. We could not order the Paella as planned because the very tight bar area would not have accommodated the pan. We did receive excellent tapas and service from the bar tender. Definitely be prepared to offer a tip to the hostess if you want to sit at an inside table.

Their paella with lobster was really mediocre, and prices relative to poor quality are ridiculously high. The service was attentive but it took them a long time to prepare one paella dish. The place was empty. My Rioja rosé was recommended by the waiter was the only bright spot. Overall a very disappointing experience. I will definitely not return. There are plenty of excellent Spanish places in Manhattan to enjoy. This is not one of them for sure.

Always a great meal when we visit the restaurant. The staff is very helpful. Best waiters ever! Please order the red Sangria. (Thank you bartender) The tapas are very tasty and they come right away to the table. We had the Lobster Paella delicious! If you want a tasty meal this is the place to visit.
