I had the pleasure of dining here to celebrate my birthday. There were many delectable items on the menu plus four specials. You could choose fish, seafood, chicken, lamb and steak. My husband was wowed by the best French Onion Soup he (and daughter) said they have even tasted. He was exuberant over the hamburger. (I didn’t even get a bite.) The calamari with tomato marinara were exceptional as were the hangar steak, rib eye special, frites and potato gratin. The mussels were cooked to perfection and paired with chunky butter garlic bread. I was tempted to upend the bowl of broth and finish it to the last drop. We eat out too much - usually $$- and we all agreed that their food had to ranked as some of the best we have ever tasted. This is real French food- kudos to the chef.
Friends gathered on Wed 11/7 for dinner at Le Bistro du Village and we all enjoyed it immensely. All of us agreed that we needed to return. The owner was very friendly and joked with us throughout the meal. He also helped us to choose between various crepes. The French Onion soup is served piping hot. The crepes are a generous size, and so are the salads. Very fresh, very tasty!!! 5 stars!!
It's a curious thing to say about a French restaurant, but they do have one of the best burgers in town!
Three of our group ordered the beef bourguignon which was delicious. The fourth diner had the rib eye steak which was a large portion and perfectly grilled. The crepe desserts and creamy chocolate mousse were a perfect ending to our meal.
Each time we visit it's more heavenly than the last!
Dependably first rate in all respects!! A welcome respite for us on a rainy Friday night - or any night!
I eat here all the time, sweet place with a cozy feel, excellent food and it’s actually somewhere that’s quiet enough to talk. I love the salad with smoked salmon and goat cheese— it was taken off the menu but the chef makes it for me anyway. A treasure of a restaurant
The duck special was worth trying (the sause was a bit too sweet for my taste but the duck was indeed very well cooked). However the most disappointing was the manner the owner, or whoever that man in the sweater was, took over the wine bottle opening from the waiter of one of the tables. So rude and demeaning. That waiter never came back, either left for the night or forever.
A lovely neighborhood bistro with French standards and creative appetizers, soups and salads. In addition, there is a nice selection of savory crepes and dessert crepes. The atmosphere is casual and the food is good.
The food is fine gourmet and authentic. I recommend the " Sea food Vol au Vent" but also love the "merguez frites" and all the French typical dishes such as the escargots, Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq au vin, Cassoulet. I love the smooth ambiance of the Thursday night with the jazz ensemble. Charming, retro, romantic, discreet rendez- vous. It is so much more intimate, pleasant, and personable than the greasy food and loud ambiance of the other French restaurant of Baltimore I won't name here...This positive review is coming from a Parisian used to the best...
As much as I would like to recommend this restaurant, I have to say that it has room for improvement in all aspects of food and service. We appreciated the fact that it was a family run business, but it needs to be refreshed.
French style food. Specialties are savory and sweet crepes.
Very familiar with this location since Crepe Du Jour days for many years. Hadn’t been there for a while. HORRIBLE service on this visit and I’ve dined here a lot over the years and always recommend it. As soon as we chevked in I was rudely told by an insipid twerp that they were very busy and there were no choices of tables. Ordering from the menu my French was rudely and disdainfully corrected. (I wonder how many times he’s been to France?). When my companion asked if she could make a slight change to the menu selection she was rather snottily told. “It’s all prepared ahead of time”. No yes, no, maybe, let me check. We canceled and left. I can be abused in cheaper places. Wiped out the many enjoyable timed I’ve had there. And I have never written a bad review before!
Every bite, every sip is heavenly! Sam is a wonderful waiter. Our go-to great evening.
Casual dining with high quality food served with the kind of familiarity expected in a bistro—“you belong” setting.
Delicious meal! Wonderful menu! Will absolutely return for many more meals.
Great variety in menu.
Server probably needs a bit more training, but he’ll get there. Nice to have an authentic French bistro where you can hear yourself talk.
The chicken was as tough as leather. Owner was obviously displeased that we were displeased. Said the chicken was precooked to save time but he’d redo. Came back just as tough.
EXCELLENT FOOD - THURSDAY HAS SMALL BAND COMBO
ALWAYS A VERY ENJOYABLE EVENING
Really authentic French cooking. Wonderful service by a genuine and passionate server. The wine list isn't enormous, but the wines on it are very high quality considering their price points. The bottle of Chateauneuf du pape we got could have sold for twice its price it was so good.
If you enjoy classic French dishes like coq au vin and escargot, you'll love this restaurant. But even if you just want to have a glass of wine and some outstanding mussels and bread, this is a fine place to do that.
Mustafa never disappoints! We had the most delicious lamb and rib eye, both in oso bucco sauce! Delicious calamari, amazing drinks and the crepe desserts are to die for!!! Go dine here! You won't regret it!
The place was almost empty but the service was very slow. One steak and eggs came out with a bizarre looking steak. Michael complained and the chef came out and said he was sorry and took responsibility for the sad looking steak and said he would bring another. We had waited almost an hour for our food. Then, the new steak never came. Finally, when we were paying the bill, a new steak and eggs came to the table in a carry out box.
Service very good ( Sam ) Food very good prepared just as expected.
Le Bistro du Village has been our go-to place for many years and it never disappoints. The food is always excellent as is the service and we always feel right at home. Worth the mention is the fact that you can actually carry on a conversation which has become impossible in most restaurants. It's an absolute treasure!
I loved everything about this place. Will definitely come there again
We had a wonderful restaurant week meal here, and will return for sure. Very hidden gem that reminds you of the perfect French Bistro. The escargot were seasoned just right, not too garlicky but enough. The pate, housemade, was superb, tasty with a very special flavor. we both had the lamb, cooked with wonderful herbs and a super flavor. Perhaps add a vegetable; that would have been nice (not one carrot was found!). The crepe for dessert, while decadent and beyond our usual habit, was a special tasty treat. Servers were super nice. Wine list was good, with good prices as well. Thank you.
We went for restaurant week. The quality was annazing. Everything cooked perfectly. Portions were very good. So glad we choose to eat here. Will definitely be back. I have already picked out some other dishes to try. Service could not have been better. Our waiter was very helpful in assisting us with our food and drink choices. Looking forward to returning soon.
Love this place, I am a customer for life, they never disappoint me.
We have been here before, the food is always good, service is attentive and prices reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served.
Food was not quite at Petit Louis level, but very good for a casual neighborhood bistro. I enjoyed my rack of lamb, and the duck two ways was tasty. French onion soup was missing the cheesy top and did not have a rich beefy flavor, but was still not bad. Frisee salad was delicious, and the service was excellent!
Great food, service a little slow, but worth the wait. Very pleasant and professional staff
Fab! Chef went above and beyond. Both mussel dishes simply divine and dessert heavenly. This write up possibly becoming a bit cheesey, but really, a wonderful neighborhood find.
We chose to sit outside because it was a nice night. Therefore, we couldn't comment on the ambiance of the setting. The waiter said it was busy so he wasn't as attentive as he might have been had we been inside. We could tell he was trying hard to be both professional and competent, and we appreciated the effort. We were a bit surprised that the restaurant was out of several components of dishes we had ordered. We were also surprised that the chef refused to honor simple requests, such as putting sauces or dressings on the side. The onion soup was a bit thin but the cheese was tasty and plentiful. The fish was full of butter, as was a crab and tomato appetizer, thus making healthy foods much less so. Of course we understand this is French cooking, but there should have been some willingness to accomodate to the diners needs due to health concerns. The pasta with mixed seafood was plentiful, even if they had to add mussels and shrimp because they were out of scallops (early on a Saturday night!), and the people who ordered that were satisfied.
Really like this place and not too crowded or noisy
excellent place for family dinner, have a wonderful night there. Food is great with nice service. Recommended.
We love Bistro du Village. There are always good specials - and we ordered the fish of the evening (a bronzini fillet nicely prepared with a light lemon sauce), a salmon that was prepared on the rare side per our request, and the seafood crepe which was chock full of shrimp, scallops and a lovely wine sauce. The salads are so fresh - we shared a Greek salad - and the wine choices good. We had a Voignier which nicely complemented the fish/seafood. The service was appropriately attentive and smiling. The Bistro du Village is a great Mt. Washington restaurant that we recommend and will continue to patronize.
Ordered lamb MR, came out well done. They insisted on bringing me a new one. After 20 minutes new lamb chops came out that were sorta cooked on one side and completely raw on the other. They obviously didn’t flip the lamb over. No apology from our server or offer to comp anything. Also, charging $3.50 for some lemon juice in a cup with a side of water and dirty diner sugar pourer and calling it “French lemonade” is a scam. Will not be going back.
Excellent, tasty food and wonderful service. Lamb chops were delicious, as was the shrimp bisque. They should not charge for bread. Should also allow for some minor side substitutions without upcharges.
True French crepes. Love the merquez. Always good food and french ambiance.
