   First time there atmosphere was very nice and the food was excellent. Our server was really friendly and helped us decide on which entree to order. We got a special bonus when our server informed us that wine was 40% off for a bottle. Great food excellent service at a reasonable price we will be back!!!

   We had a great dinner. Left enough to bring some home. Gonna heat it up for seconds. Sandi had the ahi tuna with brussel sprouts and Loved it, I had the Strip steak and smashed potatoes and it was wonderful. We had requested the seat in front of the fireplace and was warm and toasty all through dinner and since it was my birthday I got a piece of cheesecake FREE. We know where to go for dinner in Decemebr to celebrate another birthday. To top it all off we had a glasss Livingston White zinfandel to drink Delicious!! So glad to be a member of open table too!!

   Meet at the Wooden Nickel regularly with friends I worked with before retiring. We continue to choose this restaurant because the food is delicious and the service is exceptional. It is quiet enough for us to talk and we are comfortable there.

   On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, my wife and I arrived about ten (10) early to reservation at The Wooden Nickel restaurant located in Monroeville, Pa. We were seated at a two-seat table located at the entrance of the dining near a big white pole. We endured a great deal of foot traffic as workers walked to and from the kitchen to the customers. The woman setting tables for other customers, loudly talked across the dining area to her co-workers. There were three other occupied tables. The ambience had been much better in the past. We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail ($14.00) which had four large shrimp with cocktail sauce and “fresh-looking” lemon wedges. I ordered the Salmon Oscar ($30.00) meal, the lump crab did not taste like “fresh” crab. I did not specify how my salmon should be cooked, but it was “very done”! Some asparagus had “wood-like” stems that were not eatable. My wife ordered a medium “Nickel Filet” ($37.00) steak which she found to be bloody “rare”. She brought it home to cook off the “blood”. Her unsweetened iced tea ($2.50) was good. We did not order dessert. Note: Open Table (Confirmation #: 2109782071).

    This was our first visit, and it was wonderful. Make sure you make a reservation, they fill up quick. Our waiter was very friendly and quick to refill our drinks. Great place to go

    First time there. Celebrating my birthday. LOVE this restaurant. Everything about it was outstanding. Staff super friendly. Soft lighting, soothing ambience. Beautifully decorated. Multiple fireplaces. Delicious food. Will be returning again, again and again.

    We had the best time and the best dinner. The food was wonderful I had the steak and smashed potatoes . Every thing was cooked perfectly. And served the way I like it, nice and hot! We also had Onion soup which was delicous Sandi had the Ahi tuna and Brussel sprouts. It was the first time she ate sprouts! She liked them!! We had a glass of Livingston White Zinfandel and we really liked it. They do not carry it in the PA liquor store but it can be ordered. All in all we had a very nice time and a great waitress. We are planning to go back in March for a birthday

    Our request for a table in front of the fireplace was ignored, despite making a reservation with this request a week in advance. The table we wanted was already occupied. We were offered a table for two, not in view of the fireplace, by the hostess. I suggested a larger table with a fireplace view. I was told that it was a table for four. I said, " the dining room is 90 % empty, what's the problem?" Her reply was "it's harder to clean up a table for four". The hostess was rude, and obviously didn't read the reservation notes.

    Very expensive for what you get, I ordered the 14 oz ribeye steak special and it was a cheap, thin, tough cut of meat. For spending almost $200, I could have gone elsewhere and had better food. The ambiance was great, lots of people and a cozy atmosphere, very comfortable and lively. The Wooden Nickle is one of two higher end restaurants in Monroeville, it really has no competition outside of Coast and Main.

    It was a crowded and we were seated in a table by the bar and next to the beer cooler causing high traffic in that area. Food was very good. I have had better there. Waitress was polite and attentive. I will still go there again.

    We were a party of five for a very early (4 PM) dinner. The restaurant was short-staffed (more the norm now) and they were just transitioning from lunch to dinner, so we had to wait a bit for our table to be ready. The hostess was flustered, but friendly and did her best. Once seated everything was perfect, with the exception of our entrees arriving a little too soon. Caitlin's service was impeccable: super-friendly and attentive but not hovering. Every dish was prepared and presented as expected, and the flavors were outstanding. The prices, considering the quality and portion sizes, are an amazing value. Our check, with two appetizers and a bottle of wine, was under $250. The only ding - a minor one - is that the building is not attractive from the exterior, and the interior decor is dated, though clean and in good order. I imagine it appeals to an older clientele, but I feel the appeal could be broadened with an update. All things considered, Wood Nickel was a great surprise to me and an excellent setting for our family gathering!

    Very nice experience for Thanksgiving! I would love to go again next year too, which says a lot. Ambiance was cozy and classy. Service was stellar. Dinner was delicious! And they took the extra step to serve the dinner on a heated plate! Very nice.

    Made a reservation for our 10 year anniversary. They put us at a 2 person table at the bar when I chose a standard reservation. Brought it up to the hostess and she could’ve cared less. Would not recommend.

    We had to eat in the bar area so missed the quieter and more comfortable and nicely decorated dining room. There was a funeral meal in the dining room. We would have gone elsewhere had we known.

    Our waiter, Colin I believe, was extraordinary. The food was exceptional. I had not been to the Wooden Nickel for many years. A dear friend had her birthday dinner there and I was reminded how good this restaurant is. I returned the next weekend with some of my family to reintroduce them to the place. I’ll be returning on a regular basis and hope our excellent waiter is on duty.

    We have lived in Monroeville for over 35 years. We finally decided to try the Wooden Nickel for the first time. The food was very good, nice quiet atmosphere where my wife and I could actually talk over dinner. We should have tried this place years ago. We will be going back again.

    We made reservations at the Wooden Nickel to celebrate our wedding anniversary on a Friday night. We arrived, and it was clearly busy as the parking lot was full. We were told upon arriving that they were really busy and that they had to open the banquet room to accommodate the guests and we were going to "be surprised at the size of the table". We were seated in the banquet room at a round-top table for 8 to 10 people. Most of the extraneous plates/glassware were cleared, but not all. Several other groups of various sizes were in the room at the large tables. It wasn't quite the romantic dinner vibe we were looking for, but we rolled with it. Our server was fantastic. She was friendly, helpful, and attentive. My husband's NY strip was prepared well, and my scallops were perfectly seared. However, the portions were a bit disappointing. For the price of my entree, I would have expected more than 3 scallops. It was almost as if I ordered risotto with scallops on the side. Overall we enjoyed the meal and the service. The ambiance left something to be desired. We plan to go back and hope to be seated in the dining area.
