I have been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food.....except this time. The mozzarella and tomato was fine although it was a small portion for the price. I order the meatballs which were bland at best and lacked any appeal. The red pepper sauce made the dish palatable. My companion ordered the duck. From the presentation we were concerned about the dish. The duck was more fatty than usual and lacked color or taste. It was tough to slice. The accompanying vegetable did not add to the dish. We probably should have stuck to the pastas which are never disappointing. It was a quiet night so the kitchen wasn't that busy. The service was fine. We will think again before going back, The patio is a big draw because it it so pleasant.

Food was very good, but we especially like that they offer two sizes of entrees; that allowed us to also get an appetizer! Loved the back patio, too.

The food was terrible. I am not even a picky eater but the pasta sauce tasted like it came from the can. The clams in the clam pasta tasted old and like rubber. The calamari also had a weird smell. Went on a thursday night and the place was empty. .The wine is also so expensive. This place is for people who really don't like real italian food and more american type of pastas. Not worth the 100 dollar bill..

We were a group of 3 who work in midtown east and wanted to escape the scene to catch up over a nice dinner. Friday night happened to be a nice night to be outside and this place has a cute little courtyard. We were seated right away and given time to read over the menu. We had 2 of their salads ( beet salad and arugula) to start off with, a nice bottle of white then the main meals. I had the Pappardelle with braised short ribs ragu, my friend had the Cavatelli with chicken sausage with white wine and sage and my other friend had the chicken dish. All were very delicious! Loved that the pastas were fresh..really makes a difference. The only complaint I had was the strong smell of marijuana that would shoot out from time to time..not good for my pregnant friend! Other than that... loved the quaint and cute restaurant ..was able to get away from the madness of midtown.

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend. The food was pretty good, but the menu felt a little sparse. The outdoor seating in the back was very nice and spacious, however the restaurant was a little empty which was kind of a bummer. However, we will probably go back again.

I came here with friends for a nice evening catching up. The food was really only alright (but I admittedly I high standards when it comes to pasta dishes) but the portion size was quite nice. I wished they had a few less expensive wine options although I did enjoy the one that I got. I saw pictures on Yelp of their outdoor dining which looked really nice but unfortunately we came on a cold night so we ate inside. The interior decor is really boring and not particularly charming. Too many better wine bars in the city to go back.

Restaurant is just the right size for a party of six or less. Food came out pretty quickly, so maybe go elsewhere if you're looking for a longer, boozier meal (although that's not to say the wine wasn't delicious as well as reasonably priced - $42 for a nice chardonnay.) Order the larger portion, I cannot imagine that the smaller portion would be enough food for one person (but we did not order any appetizers.) Highly, highly recommend the Spinach Gnocchi.

Interesting a la carte choices, however, the best deals are the three tasting menus offered at great prices. We had the 5 course pasta tasting menu which was supurb! We left it up to the chef who sent out 5 different and extremely tasty different dishes. They have a well prices wine list as well. The service was excellent and we had a great meat. Will definately return.

Been coming here (ir)regularly since they opened but with so many good NY Italian restaurants to choose from, we don't come here as often as it deserves (or we deserve). Though we missed the brick pounded quail (?), the owner said he'd make it if we called ahead and asked! What service! The pastas are delicious and fresh and the fish skin was crispy with the fish moist and delicate. We were 5 and all thoroughly enjoyed from starters to desserts.

Love Barbone in my neighborhood. It took me a long time to find it but glad I did. It's not noisy, it's not pretentious, it's really comfortable with really good food and really really good wine. When you want to go somewhere to eat where you know it's not a scene, but you want good service and great wine, food and conversation you can hear, this is the place to go. Salads are perfect--not to plain and not to fancy, just the right amount of bitter; chicken livers--love!; pasta always al dente; every wine is good.

When we first arrived at 7:15 it seemed like only one person was working the whole restaurant, but diners were already finishing their meals and nothing seemed to be behind. The roasted tomatoes with ricotta spiked pesto were outstanding, one of the most flavorful dishes I've had in a while. My black pepper fettuccine was yummy. Panacotta was good too. I tried bites of everyone else's dishes and they were great all around. I will definitely go back.

My husband and I returned to Barbone for my Birthday dinner! Although we considered many restaurants, this one has stolen our hearts, and so we found ourselves once again celebrating here! The waitstaff have become our friends, the food is always delicious and never disappoints, and the chefs make each plate a heavenly, home cooked miracle. The garden is so pretty and romantic. I believe it would be impossible to have a bad dinner or date here. It's a small gem of a place. We were Happy to see the owner that night! A perfect evening! Thank you!

Our group of 5 experienced both the best and the worst of Barbone . Food was generally praised although the Mozzarella appetizer was very ordinary and overpriced. Service was very poor with us having to repeatedly reach out to the servers to order wine , get in our orders and get any attention during the meal. Espresso was served lukewarm and , although i made an observation to this effect , no action was taken or offered. This had been our go to restaurant in the east village but we will be giving Barbone a miss ( and cannot recommend it to others) pending an improvement in their customer care.
