What Insiders Are Saying
Cater to your basic needs with small plates Italian food in River North.
Quartino was recommended to me by a coworker, and man, it did not disappoint! For how many people were in the restaurant, our waitress was nothing but attentive and energetic. The food portions were also perfect for tasting a little of everything. Speaking of food, it was absolutely delicious! 10/10 would recommend, and 10/10 will return.
First time in Chicago and I picked Quartino because it came up on my GF App. It did not disappoint. We were seated right away, the first table we were supposed to sit at was right in the middle of a walkway so we asked if there was another table and a little more private. The hostess was more than happy to seat us at a table nearby that was only for two and it was perfect. The waitress was simply delightful. She was from Romania but was very fluent in the English language. She was so friendly and once she learned I have a gluten allergy, she made sure to let me know about all of the dishes I was interested in and even offered me GF crackers since I couldn’t have the bread. The service was great in that we ordered a half carafe of wine and appetizers which came out very quickly and tasted very good. For dishes, we ordered GF pasta with a homemade bolognese sauce which was soooo delicious! My husband ordered pasta with a short rib tomato sauce on it and it was spectacular! The GF pasta was so good you would’ve thought it was traditional pasta. The next time I’m in Chicago, I will definitely be back to eat at Quartino!
Excellent and numerous gluten free options. Service was excellent. Food was exceptional.
The food was remarkably average and not authentic Italian by any stretch of the imagination. I was extremely disappointed because there are so many good restaurant options in Chicago.
The restaurant was very noisy with tables crammed close together. The waiter spilled sauce down the side of a serving bowl and on the table and floor beneath our table and didn’t clean it up. I could barely hear the waiter talk is was so noisy and he spoke incredibly fast as if he just want to get his spiel over with. This was the worst dining experience I have had in quite some time and the worst in Chicago ever. The one bright spot was the kale salad, which was tasty.
The food is phenominal, but the tables are jammed in to the space and the bussers are continually bumping into your chair. Tables are small with a lot on them so if you are ok with tight quarters, you have to eat here!
Great portions and tasty food. Service friendly and knowledgeable.
Great casual Italian restaurant in Chicago. Downtown, but reasonable! great food and service.
Great food and great service. Picked the restaurant based on a friends recommendation. It was a little different then most restaurants. They tell you before you order that the food will be brought out as it is prepared, so everyone may not get their food at the same time. It does make it good for sharing dishes and trying numerous dishes.
Unfortunately, not as good as I had hoped. The warm plates of food were barely past room-temperature, despite the fact that they are supposed to bring it to the table as soon as its finished? Wonderful ambiance, though.
It was an all around pleasant dining experience. Lots of vegetarian options and good wine selection. We will certainly be returning customers.
Loved everything about the restaurant
Came with a group of 17. Had to wait for 10-15 until our table was ready which was fine, but there was virtually nowhere to stand in the bar area or the lobby without bumping into someone. Once seated (crammed into) a very tight table space, our waiter was horrible. We had to flag him down to put in a cocktail order (after 15-20 min) and also to ask questions and order our food. The food, however, was fabulous. Pastas, pizzas, salads were all great.
Perfect night out with friends !
I read reviews that described this restaurant as “loud”, but I didn’t think it could be that bad. But the noise level is so ridiculously loud that I would never come back! Our group struggled to carry on a conversation above the noise- and there were only 4 of us seated in a corner table. Additionally, the bar area was so over-crowded that you could not even make your way to the bar without aggressively pushing people out of the way (which other people were doing!). The food quality and service were very good- but not good enough to overcome the unpleasantness of the very crowded and loud atmosphere. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
Quartino did not disappoint! Such a fun way to dine. Portions are perfect for sharing so you get to try lots of things without getting uncomfortably full. Limoncello martini was divine. Favorite dish was the tortellini. Our server was phenomenal and for the life of my I can’t remember her name (it could have something to do with the 2 espresso martinis). Highly recommend!!
Food was great. Super crowded and super loud but it was a Saturday night!
Had an amazing time ! Was there for a family dinner and the service and food were exceptional .....
Too many people, overcrowded
Our waiter, Ruben and his assistant were great. The manager this night (can’t recall his name) was also great. He took our order as our waiter was extremely busy
I was recommended this restaurant by a co worker. We arrived at the restaurant and waited 15 minutes to be seated. It was truly worth the wait. My boyfriend I ordered the calamari (most tender calamari I’ve ever had), clams, fettuccine Alfredo, salmon and a few other dishes. Absolutely delicious and great service. I will definitely be back on our next trip to Chicago.
We had a large group and it was a very busy night in the city and at the restaurant. They sat very close to the time of our reservation. The hostesses were in top of everything excellent. Waitress was awesome and had a great table for the big party we had. We have been here several times and highly recommend and of course the most important part excellent food.
I say YES to Quartino's Italian-style tapas & wine! I've dined at Quartino twice now, each time being delicious experiences with quality service and an energetic atmosphere.
The must-orders? White Bean & Garlic Dip and Eggplant Caponata. Both are perfect to pass around the table, both are vegan-friendly, both are full of flavor, and both pair romantically with red wine.
Meet your friends for shareable plates, take your family for homemade Italian dishes, or plan date night at Quartino. You're guaranteed an enjoyable, tasty time!
Always an awesome experience for any occasion. We came here before our show at House of Blues
Reviews are great, people seem to really love it here. I'm 60. I'm probably over-the-hill even though I don't consider myself that way, LOL. I work out regularly. Anyway it was my 2nd time here this year; from Los Angeles. Too noisy, tables too close. Food is good but I wasn't overly impressed both times. It is a crowded, energetic place. I don't get it. The restrooms: My husband said there was an assistant in the men's bathroom that would provide hand soap so my husband would tip him every time. Wow, there was a lady helper in the women's room that sat there- I guess I should've tipped her but she didn't give me any hand soap The restrooms are upstairs in another crowded, noisy room. It could make any drunk person fall flat on their face while walking up & down the 2-flights of stairs. Service wasn't that great as we had to ask several times for wine glasses & for server to open our bottle. Other than that it was fine. Food is decent but I have no desire to go back.
All meals are prepared to share. We had a nice variety and everything was really good. I was surprised at how full the restaurant was both upstairs and downstairs, mainly cause it was a Thursday. Would highly recommend.
The food was delicious. The servers were very friendly and helpful.
I loved the kindness of the wait staff, the prompt seating and variety on the menu. The food is always delicious as I frequent here every few months or so.
Went here with a friend for her birthday. Love the food and the drinks! It is really loud in here. Totally fine for two people to talk but couldn’t imagine if I was trying to talk to multiple people! I do recommend for good Italian food!
Great service klnd personell effective and overall good vairati of plates
Extraordinary as usual !!
The food was delicious - we got a few things to share from our meal to dessert. Every thing we ordered was so rich and full of flavor, I can’t wait to come back and try more!
The food was delicious and fairly reasonable. My husband had the Cobia, which was wonderful and I had the Lobster tail special, which was also delicious and for starters, we shared a Caesar salad. We finished the dinner with this beautiful dark chocolate bag filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh fruit - just amazing! We loved our meal and would definitely go back!!
Excellent wine selection, food, and service! An all around great experience!
Excelent food and service for an honest price.
This is my third time and as the previous two...just amazing food.
Different this time was the overwhelming number of people waiting in the lobby. Our reservation was at 7:30pm and judging by how dangerously crowded it was, maybe overbooking or slow turn-over tables.
Great restaurants usually have full lobbies, but this was seriously getting into the dangerous category.
As far as the service, restaurant, and food in general... simply extraordinary. Excellent selection of dishes, great/fast service, and overall an outstanding restaurant.
Outstanding server with an engaging personality, he was excellent even though it was crazy busy.
The restaurant might want to rethink its traffic flow in entry. It was very hard to get out due to the crowd. In their benefit to make it smoother so the next groups can come in.
We arrived a little before our reservation and were seated within a few minutes. The tables are VERY close together and a tad on the small side, but overall it was still comfortable. We ordered the fondue, fettuccini Alfredo, calamari, and cavatelli; the fondue and cavatelli were AMAZING, but the fettuccini and calamari were just okay. We also got two desserts to share and the Italian donuts were pretty blah, but the hot chocolate cake was delicious. The service was awesome, food came out quickly, and the prices were very reasonable, so overall it was a great experience. I would definitely go back, just wouldn’t get the fettuccini or calamari again.
Best Italian we have had. We make a day of it in Chicago but the main reason we drive three hours is to eat at Quartino.
Great food! The cheese and olive oil was so good we bought some to take home.
