About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Good for special occasions
Discovering the experience of dining in a place such as Cannes or Nice was never easier than now with the opening of the French Bistro and Raw Bar, Avenue. The only difference between dining at Avenue and dining along the Côte d'Azur, is that your gaze lands on waves on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Avenue is located along our side of the pond, on our own eastern shores in Long Branch, New Jersey. This gleaming new restaurant is designed by the internationally renowned architect David Collins, and the collaboration is nothing short of amazing.

Sadly, due to what appeared to be staffing issues (minimally trained waitstaff and possible staffing shortage) my Mother's Day dining experience was no where as good as when we visited for Easter brunch. Generally we enjoy patronizing this restaurant ocassionally. However, today was not a good day. There were extensive delays from the moment we sat at our table ie: waiting to meet our waiter/waitress, waiting to place our beverage/cocktail order, waiting to receive cocktails, waiting to place our food order, and more extensive waiting in between meals. Our waitress, on her second day of work, appeared very confused. My sparkling rose was flat, the two orders of the clams casino appetizer was cold, my entree the roasted chicken- was very dry. Given that the summer season unofficially began this weekend and as this area tends to be very busy now thru the end of summer we will avoid returning and reconsider patronizing this restaurant in the off season.

We came for Easter & Mother's Day in 2025. It appears there are issues with the kitchen. The service team try, but food is very slow coming out of the kitchen. We sat down 2pm both times and the live music is not appropriate for the meal. The acoustics and artists do not blend and very difficult to talk at the table. The service team is very disorganized. Today, the young lady was taking care of our table inside & serving folks on the outside deck. Impossible for her to do. Food was ok, but nothing exceptional. Our check was $299 for three people and with the tip, $360. Our food and service was not worth the $360. Nothing was exceptional. BTW . . . the ladies toilets did not work properly and no lights in the stalls that did work. It seems like the restaurant is failing.

Seems like they’re understaffed. Seated for 20 minutes before we received water. 45 minutes later is when received our appetizers. Over 2.5 hours for brunch. Ambiance is great.

Arrived 10 min early for reservation and was seated quickly. table had no set ups. took 40 mins and 2 requests to get a waitress who took order. Drinks did not arrive until 70 minutes after arrival. apps were ok but they forgot 1. steaks were near raw. Manager stated they were understaffed and too busy all day. restaurant was not even 1/2 full. A very bad birthday dinner for me.

I’m not sure what happened at Avenue. It took hours to get our food. Our server told us that a corporation bought Avenue and cut too many staff. The wait was atrocious. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night which made me suspicious. It is on the Beach, the weather was beautiful. I finally understand. The kitchen is a problem. I must say that the others said their food was good. Not exceptional but good. The value is fine. I ordered steak frites. Pretty hard to screw that up. My steak was cooked fine but you could tell it was a “choice” piece of meat. The fries were cooked properly. I felt sorry for the server staff. It probably took an hour to get the escargot I had ordered. The oysters came almost immediately, and they told me they had a single person doing the Fruits De Mer. That restaurant had always been busy, but I cannot recommend going until they have a restaurant that can actually serve a meal.

We arrived at 6:50 for a 6:45 reservation, ordered at 7:45, entrees arrived at 8:45. Server dropped food and walked, nobody checking on us, etc. It can't be this bad all the time, but we won't return anyway.

Our group thoroughly enjoyed the wine and food but sadly the lackluster service turned out to be the main takeaway from our experience with the Avenue.

My wife and I went for lunch last month and really enjoyed it — so we decided to go to dinner with another couple last night. The place was beautiful as per usual, but a few things happened that took away from the experience. My friend ordered the soup of the day, which we were told was tomato soup. What he got was a (watery) cream of spinach. The server apologized, but we weren’t told what happened. So that was odd. Then we didn’t get our food for about 90 minutes later. Turns out they gave our food to the wrong table. Not sure how that happened either. The GM came over to apologize. When the food finally did come, it was just okay. Not great at all. Then there were a couple times over the rest of the night when a server would bring food to our table, and we’d have to say it was the wrong table. At the end of the meal, when we finished our dessert, and there was clearly dessert on our table, someone brought out French fries?? We had to tell him it wasn’t ours. When all was said and done, we were there for three hour,s, and the only thing taken off the bill was the soup. I thought there would have been a little more accommodation, but sadly, no.

Hello Kyle, Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the ambiance, meals and dessert. It is indeed concerning and will be addressed with our team the importance of delivering the right orders to the proper tables. We would be more than happy to invite to experience us again, so you can enjoy the top standards we uphold too. Should you accept our offer kindly reach us at the restaurant so we can take it from there. Again thank you for sharing as these shortcoming moments do use us for training and coaching moments for better consistent service. Looking forward to welcoming you again soon, Avenue, Management Team
