We are the 2nd oldest restaurant in Boston and the longest consecutively running tradition in the city. The original round mahogany tables and bar have welcomed one and all both young and old for over 142 years. Share a meal and moment in history where the people who built Boston did. Where Larry Bird came after walking off the court his last night of being a Boston Celtic. Most recently where Hollywood has found inspiration featuring Jacob Wirth in "Knight and Day" and "The Company Man." Where Boston"s Big Dig was drawn on napkin... Hey when you're 130 years old see if you get everything right!
We strive for great service here but sometimes things do not always go as planned. Both good and bad we would like to hear your experience and feedback. These comments can be sent to mfitzgerald@jacobwirth.com Thank you in advance!

For anyone having missed the news, Jacob Wirth had a fire on the 4th floor of this iconic establishment. The restaurant was seriously impacted by the water. I'm hoping they will reopen.

We can’t give an accurate rating as when we arrived, the restaurant was closed. We received no indication when we reserved on Open Table nor when we called to find out what was going on.

We enjoyed the small plates of German food - very tasty - and they nicely solved the stereotypical complaint! We have not been to Wirth's for some time. It is livelier than we remembered, and we were glad to see that.

It can get quite loud in there and the chairs are not at all comfortable. The Vienna schnitzel is the best of the three options. The German platter was very good.

Our group pre-ordered and were told that the items on the on-line lunch menu were what we should order off of. We did so and were not told until we got to the restaurant that several of the items were no longer available!!! Might have been nice to know that before we arrived. Please update your online menu so people know what is and isn't available.

Great German food with a pub atmosphere. Wide selection of draft beers. Entertainment in the evening. Friendly wait staff. Short walk from South Station

Just wasn’t up to par. We had a large party. It took the server 20 minutes to come over to the table. Appetizers were served at the same time as the main courses. Beers were served AFTER we received our food. Food was just ok. Wouldn’t go out of my way to go there again.

We had made reservation week in advance yet were given unsatisfactory table. Service was slow although our wait person was really working. Not enough staff which perhaps accounts for poor seating as there appeared to be a few open spots. Food was satisfactory and well priced

My grandparents came over from Germany, so any chance we get to enjoy German food - we take it! The food was the delicious, the portions were huge and the environment was fun! I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. This was our first time, but it certainly will not be our last!! :)

Disappointing German food. The sauerbraten meat was very dry. I should have sent it back. The potato pancakes with apple and cinnamon was flavorful and nice 'n oily.

It had been 15 years or so since the last time I'd eaten at JW's. Unfortunately, the food quality has significantly declined since then. Both the bratwurst and knockwurst we had were really bland. Good fries, and an OK red cabbage base that was saved mostly by the pretzel bun. We didn't try any of the beer selection, but they do have a great selection to choose from. The wine list could be added to, with some decent German wine that's not a Riesling. I grew up with authentic German cooking, and have eaten in Germany as well, and the last time I ate here, it was absolutely comparable to what you'd get in Germany, or at least in a German home. Today, the same cannot be said. While I was disappointed with the food, the service was good. The host was really amenable when I called to say we might be late; and the waiter was prompt. The price was unbelievably low, especially when you consider the area. Overall, it was definitely a mixed bag. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic German plate, but it's certainly a decent spot for a quick, affordable bite, or after-work beer with your office mates.

An old theater district gem with a properly worn, comfortable atmosphere. Not pretentious but good food choices whether German or American with a great draft beer list! We actually held dinner reservations but found the place when walking around looking for a lunch spot. So we ate lunch in the bar area and kept our dinner plans for the dining room the same day! We enjoyed both a lot. We liked the choice of "small plates" for German favorites (but they weren't all that small). All of that equates to good value. Some beers are fairly pricey but really good!

An okay pub environment with okay German food. I had the butternut squash ravioli which had too thick of a cheesy sauce. Mom had the schnitzel which was awesome, but the spaetzle was not great. Good beer, solid service.

Great food- the vegetarian chili was a little too spicy but really good otherwise. Great schnitzel and cabbage. Our waiter was not very attentive and I had to walk up to the bar to ask for more water as after waiting a few minutes we could not see him anywhere. Additionally, 2 of the drinks that a member of our party ordered were apparently “not available now” even though they were on the menu. Overall, still a great meal and great ambiance.

Because this was a historic restaurant, I was hoping for something different. Instead, it is a very loud place with a pub atmosphere. Seems to have a terrific selection of beers. Stick to pub food which they seem to do a reasonable job on: don't order anything fancy. If you are looking for a loud pub where you can drink with friends, this place is plausible. Quiet before-theater dinner not so much.

I've always like JW for informal business day lunch - sandwiches. Tried the Weinerschnitzel on a Friday night - dreadful! Undercooked veal, tasteless schnitzel, not very hot. What a mess. My friend enjoyed the giant everything-burger. Good asparagus and bacon appetizer. General buzzing ambiance was good. Service - indifferent.
