Tucked away in a brownstone on the Upper West Side, La Boite en Bois has been a favorite among diners since 1985. Family owned and operated, our attentive and well-trained staff will be sure to provide you with a memorable experience. As seen on Seinfeld, we are a short walk from Central Park, Lincoln Center, NYC Ballet, and the Metropolitan Opera.

With its rustic ambiance, diners are made to feel as though they are in a bistro in the French countryside. Seated and ordered a drink…ordered dinner and 1 of 3 was served full meal…2nd guest received appetizer only. 3rd guest received nothing..after another 45 minutes, the restaurant was basically empty and we had still not received our dinner or an offer of another drink…after having been there for over an hour, we signaled our waiter to cancel our order. He rudely said it would be here “shortly” but by that time and an empty restaurant we were done‼️. For 15 years or more, this was one of my favorite restaurants…obviously there is a problem….sorry, I won’t recommend this anymore. Susan Kidd Birmingham Al

The perfect lunch place to celebrate a friend's birthday. On one of the very humid days the restaurant was comfortable, the food excellent and the atmosphere and music made us feel like we were having lunch in France. We loved it!

I must have passed La Boite en Bois hundreds of times and just never noticed it. My friend and I were looking for a place close to Lincoln Centre and "found" it by poring over Google Maps. We are SO happy we did! The atmosphere is charming and the food EXCELLENT! Our waiter gave us a wonderful wine suggestion: Sancerre. Our lobster bisque was so good we were tempted to lick the bowl - but didn't ;-) My duck confit salad was lovely, as was my friend's crabcakes. Both of our desserts were yummy. My only complaint was the Shift4 restaurant billing system which was having major hiccups.

It's great, but a bit pricey. The food is excellent. Everything we had was delicious. It did seem that the meal and drink prices were a little higher than expected. Overall a good find in the UWS.

Francophones will spot misspelling on the menu which presages the not particularly authentic French menu/cuisine. Food was good but not outstanding. I did enjoy linguine with shrimp and scallops. Julienne of vegetables was a total miss showing lack of care in preparation. Service was top notch.

A wonderful homage to French cuisine and a cozy ambience in the middle of New York. The focus is on bringing together the flavors of fresh ingredients and classic cooking, and they do it well. The only small gripe is I would prefer fresh bread to be included rather than by request and charge.

This was not my first visit, and as always, the restaurant did not disappoint. Starting with the star of the evening, the escargot. This dish has always been a highlight of La Boite en Bois, and our recent visit was no different. The escargot were beautifully cooked to perfection, bathed in a delectable garlic butter that was a pleasure for the palate. Every bite was a delightful blend of richness and sophistication. As for the main courses, I chose the steak. It was cooked just as I requested, displaying a deep, robust flavor and tender, juicy texture that one seeks in a good steak. The accompanying sauce complemented the meat perfectly, adding an extra layer of complexity to the dish. My wife, a fan of seafood, ordered the mussels. The freshness of the mussels was evident, they were plump and succulent, and the flavorful broth they were cooked in truly highlighted their natural taste. It was a well-executed dish that radiated the essence of the sea. The service was attentive, efficient, and courteous, ensuring a seamless dining experience. As always, La Boite en Bois presented a delectable spread of French cuisine, creating a memorable dining experience that has us eagerly planning our next visit.

It was a pleasure to return to La Boite En Bois after several years. My sister and I enjoyed our dinners, and had a delightful surprise when the wait staff brought out a beautiful and delicious Happy Birthday cream brulee! Merci!

It was our first time eating at La Boite en Bois. We sat at the outdoor enclosed section. There were ceiling fans but no air conditioning. The crab cakes were very good and the accompanying salad a good contrast. My husband enjoyed his fish stew. It was a little unusual that bread and butter were an extra fee. We enjoyed our meal.

What happened to La Boîte en Bois? So sad to see this neighborhood gem go downhill. Same menu, but it must be under new ownership. They were wearing uniform polos with the name embroidered like resort staff and there was no friendly, familial atmosphere. Too disappointing for words....

The food was good and we liked the quaint rustic atmosphere. We placed a drink order with one waiter, but it was never put into the computer and we had to order it again. When the bill came we were charged for San Pellegrino (we had tap water) and a breadbasket we didn’t order.

The food is average. No complementary pre-dinner table bread (paid only, but they do offer). Also, if you have any special requests - don't assume they will read them on Open Table, you must likely have to spell them out in person (e.g. birthday candles etc).

It’s time for this restaurant to face reality and hire a real chef. Every MSIM course except the mussels looks and tastes the same: overcooked meat, fish, vegetables, potatoes, loads of butter, and bland. Duck is mushy, as is a special of branzino. Coq au vin is odd brown gravy. The dessert profiteroles taste like thawed frozen pastry. The service is terrible. We waited over 10 minutes after being seated to be asked about water. The brought the wrong main dishes while we were eating starters. It used to be a nice neighborhood French restaurant; now there is nothing French about the food.

We have been to La Boite en Bois many times before, and this is the first time we encountered both uneven food quality and really bad service. The restaurant was inordinately busy, and the servers overwhelmed. But when they did get around to taking care of us, they were still scattered and inattentive. The wine list requested by my husband never came. I had to request napkins, and sparkling water. My entree, the duck salad, was good (the tomatoes were under ripe, but good tomatoes are hard to get), the French Fries oilier than usual, and my husband's fish was so overcooked as to be inedible. We were never asked about how feedback during our meal as we did not see our waiter again until we tried to flag him for our check. La Boite en Bois has been our neighborhood go to, and I hope it can remain so.

Wonderfully intimate French bistro hidden quietly away from the tourist spots on Broadway at Lincoln Center. A perfect place for a quiet lunch or romantic dinner after a show. Highly recommended!
