This is the best restaurant I've gone to in my young life. The duck was superb as was the bisque. I left a generous tip and even got dessert.
We asked around and this was a favorite. It is in a former church built in the 1800s. Great service and food. I My daughter loved it for a fun dinner with mom for her 18th Birthday. We are not drinkers, but those who are like the extensive wine list.
Everything was very good. My wife is still speaking about the experience 3 days later. Food, Service and ambiance were outstanding... HIghly recommend...
Our welcome was very cordial and we were seated in a very private, quiet booth. Our server was very knowledgeable and professional. Food presentation was over-the-top lovely! My wife had salmon and I had barramundi meuniere (sp?). Everything was delicious. The only negative was that the barramundi was not very hot, temperature wise. All-in-all a very delightful setting and delicious meal although expensive.
We hadn't been here in probably a year, and once we got seated, we remembered why we think this is such a special place. The menu is unique, and they definitely have the way to order down to a science. They expect you to enjoy the ambience and not be in a hurry. Everything we had was top notch. The server was seasoned and guided us very well.
My husband and I love the Refrectory. The food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is cozy. The chef is great with allergy adjustments. Every time we dine at the Refrectory we are always trying new dishes. This truely is a 5+ star experience!
Our favorite restaurant in Columbus. The food is always exceptional and creative. Presentation is excellent and you are never rushed. It is a true dining experience. We definitely will go back.
Excellent food, remarkable wine cellar. Servers are very knowledgeable about food and wine pairing. If you are there to celebrate a birthday, they keep track of it. They will remember and recognize the occasion in later years even if you don't let them know.
Beautiful table settings. I loved the lighting. I felt very welcoming when I walked through the hall way and got my table. Great services. Food was excellent. I would love to go back for special occasions.
It was as good as it gets from the minute we walked in until we left. The good food, the attentive wait staff, the wine and my husband’s scotch were all perfect. Even after a mistake with the bill, they sent me flowers and a gift card. And the mistake was no big deal. Could not have been a better 70th Birthday for my husband.
as always the whole evening was very enjoyable...from the ease of making a reservation to the friendliness of the staff, our waiter Justin, the wonderful menu, the complimentery salad, and of course the great food. we were with friends and were discussing our old age ailments...at no time were we rushed. looking forward to our next visit and will tell our friends again, how great things were at the Refectory...jack
Good service, accommodate allergy issues. Very friendly staff and owner is very genial. Wine selection is wonderful.
Another terrific visit to this great restaurant. The venison rack was perfectly cooked and presentation was impressive. The wine list is top notch and fairly priced. Joseph and Chris provided outstanding, knowledgeable service and advice.
Always an outstanding meal and experience at the Refectory. Such a unique menu (Ostrich and Wild Boar this time). We only go for special occasions as it has gotten very expensive for a full meal with appetizer, drinks and dessert, but for me, worth every penny. My only slightly disappointing part of the evening was dessert. I've always held the Creme Brulee at a high level, the best I ever have and no one can come close, but tonight's was sub par. Is it a new recipe, new dessert chef? It was very average, still good, but not above and beyond all others I have ever had as it has in the past. It has been a while since we have been in. Still, highly recommended, I love the Refectory.
Wine sommelier was very helpful and the list was great
This restaurant is simply wonderful, good food, great service, lovely ambiance
A gorgeous converted church is the perfect backdrop for a fine dining meal!
We went for our 8 year anniversary, everything was fantastic. We loved our waitress Michelle, very attentive to anything we needed, was not hesitent to explain anything on the menu to us, we would definitely ask for her again when we go. The food was cooked to perfection, we got the boar chops and the ostrich filet, both were fantastic! The only downside we had was the seating was a little snug, the bottom of the table touched the top of my legs. The live music was nice too even if we weren't seated to see it, listening volume was still at a nice level to where we didn't have to talk over it.
One of the best restaurants in Columbus. Our favorite for dinner and their dinner music series is excellent with a wide variety of music. The food is outstanding, the service impeccable and their attention to detail is what makes this a four star restaurant.
Remains a stable in a Columbus market replete with new fine dining restaurants. Food quality, presentation and preparation always first class. Great service, wine selection and cocktails. One never goes wrong with The Refectory.
Waited 25 minutes to order food. Tables seated after us waited on before us. Entrees arrived 1 hour after order taken. Short staffed with one waiter most of the time with one waiter trying to serve 8 tables. Food was average to poor. Lobster and shrimp bisque was watery, under seasoned and lacking flavor. Wild boar chop was dry and flavorless. Rice accompanying dish lacked flavor and was dry. Filet of sole was surprisingly mediocre with bland under seasoned sauce. The wine was bright spot of evening. Table next to us ( who was seated after us) had finished dessert before we received our entrees. This is second poor experience at Refrectory with poor service. Poor value for price.
Our server Eden was a gem an was helpful with getting us the right wine and desserts for the 70 yer birthday man
The Refectory is fantastic ! Consistently top notch service and incredible food. This is my favorite restaurant.
Wonderful food, elegant ambiance, friendly and knowledgable server. Food portions somewhat smaller than hoped for and time between courses was longer than it could have been.
Excellent dining experience for which the Refectory is famous. Delicious meal that was superbly prepared. The service was excellent and timed perfectly. We have been coming to the Refectory for over 30 years and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended!
Great food and service!
Tried this restaurant based upon someone else’s recommendation. Food was good, not the best I have ever had, and definitely not for the price point this restaurant is at. I have eaten at Michelin star rated establishments in NY, LA, and definitely consider myself a foodie. It is most definitely a foodie spot. If you aren’t an adventurous eater or foodie, don’t try this spot, the menu is too limited otherwise. For the menu and price I expected much higher quality than was served. As a party of two we had the escargot turine appetizer, fried goat cheese appetizer, and arugula salad to start. The best part of the entire meal was the salad, it was superb. Entrees were Filet Mignon croquettes (only beef on the menu) and Wild Boar Chops. Filet was tough and moderate flavor, not cooked as requested, vegatables and sides that accompanied it were cold (but were supposed to be hot). Wild Boar was tough and sinewy. We didn’t eat dessert. Service was not great, server was barely there, though busboys were very attentive. Don’t know if it is the norm or not, but we had a 6:30 reservation. When we didn’t have our entrees out by 8:00 p.m. when our server glided by and said she would check on them, we were shocked. Make sure you plan on being there all night for appetizer, salads, and entree!
Which was best — the bisque, the quail, the venison, or the red Rhone chosen by John? I’m not sure, but it was a memorable evening. The new game menu is a must.
We had a fabulous anniversary dinner at The Refectory Restaurant. Our server Sam was very good. The food selection was unique. Each course was exceptional.
We enjoyed our special evening.
To my taste there is no better restaurant in Columbus. The service is a step away from having your own fleet of servants, their dotage so complete that it's rare to make it more than five minutes without being presented things you've ordered or complimentary dishes or sides to pass the time while you wait. The ambience is immensely comfortable and quiet. Though there are other patrons in the room, it feels like you've got the place to yourself.
The food itself is, without exception, amazing. You pay a premium price for premium dishes. Full stop. Antelope, elk, ostrich, beef fillets, seafood; every option will upset your metric for what that thing should be.
My only ding is that the desserts, while lovely, have never been the match of the entrees or appetizers (or drinks, which are fabulous). That said, the desserts are not nearly as expensive, and so still provide quite the value.
Take a date, be prepared to spend $150 on your courses, leave a legend. Can't say enough about this place. Go.
The food is amazing, but it is the service that keeps us going back for more. Joseph's service is outstanding!!
The Refectory is a Columbus Dining Institution. If you have not been there, you are missing out on one of the most attentive, delightful, scrumptious meals, Columbus has to offer. The service is out of this world. We were celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversary. They had our reserved table ready when we arrived with a congratulatory card. From our bar drinks to our dessert, it was an extraordinary experience. We haven't received that kind of service since we dined at Alinea in Chicago. If you don't want to travel that far, this is right in our backyard. Go. Eat. You won't regret this experience.
!00% amazing experience with experts on wine and food. Dom, our server was helpful and informative. He recognized our needs and adapt his service to match. I purchased 2 bottles of wine from the new wine store. I was provided great advice on the types and tastes and was matched with affordable bottles. Very awesome experience and can't wait to return for dinner and music events.
The food and the service are exceptional at the Refectory. I had a mesclun salad and the Kühlbarra Barramundi Meunière. The fish was perfectly prepared, with a crust on the exterior and moist inside. The sauce was subtle yet full of flavor. I had the charlotte for dessert, which was exquisite. Everyone who I interacted with was attentive and friendly. My only suggestion is that the decor might be updated.
This is a five star restaurant. You will never be disappointed in the food the service or the atmosphere. This is the finest restaurant in Columbus Ohio.
The staff was very attentive. For our entrée I had the Dover Sole which was absolutely amazing. My wife enjoyed the filet. Can’t wait to go back.
The chef's fall menu made up primarily of game was an over reach for my taste. The razorback boor was tough though flavorful. The wild arugula salad with blue cheese, walnuts and maple vinaigrette was superb on the other hand. All in all it was an overpriced pretentious experience.
What an excellent experience we had! The food was outstanding: some of the best flavors I've had in a long time. Service was, of course, on par with a Five Star restaurant. Joseph was instrumental in getting us a front-and-center table for the Music Series that night. We hosted a guest as a Thank You dinner, and she continues to text us about how well the meal was, how well she was treated, and what a joy our meal and evening was. Highly recommend this excellent restaurant for a true dining experience.
My wife and I went to the Refectory for her birthday. We received special treatment all the way. From a Happy Birthday card on the table, complimentary bubbly, a visit to our table from the owner Kamal, to a candle on her dessert. The experience was wonderful, the food was superb, the service was excellent. We've been coming to the Refectory to celebrate special occasions for over 34 years and will return for many more!
