After years of walking past, we finally decided to go. Inside it is just as cozy as expected, a perfect environment for authentic Italian, especially on a date or special occasion. The food quality was excellent, and the 50% off bottles of wine on Sundays is an absolute bargain. We purchased our bottle at $4 over retail price, unheard of at a restaurant usually. (A good Chianti for $22, retails $18 in a big wine store.)
The only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that the bread was served hard and at room temperature. Is this customary? Would much prefer fresher bread, even if it isn't still warm. Don't want crumbs all over the plate etc. Simply buying some good French bread each night and cutting it on the bias would suffice, no need to aim for the sky with some kind of reheating scheme, and wind up missing the mark with dry bread.
Octopus and cheese plate appetizers very nice, the quail appetizer was the coup of the meal. Pasta and rabbit also quite good. (But again, make sure you get the quail.) Will avoid no longer, this will become a regular place for us especially if the cheap bottles of wine are available.
For the most part it was very good, except that we felt the staff was trying to rush us out so they could seat the next party. Other than that it was excellent. Two apps, two entrees, a dessert, and bottle of wine $228.
amazing food!!! great atmosphere! I would definitely recommend!
Definitely a neighborhood gem!
One of the best Italian spots in the city. Impeccable service as well as a great wine list. Atmosphere here is hard to beat. The food is very authentic and prepared without error. Knowledgable staff - they know everything they can about the wine and also fine details about the preparation of the food. These people really care about what they are doing and it's refreshing. Thank You!
First time and would definitely go back. Food and ambiance were great. Only issue but an important one is that we were very rushed. Had a 7:30 reservation and it was clear that the waiter wanted us out by 9pm. P
When we arrived there was music playing so loudly that we could not hear our waiter. We tried asking him questions which he could not hear either. When we asked if he could turn down the music he pointed in the direction of the bar and said “ask her” and walked away.
We eventually got someone to turn the music down and we were able to order. The food was wonderful, but our waiter mostly ignored us for the remainder of the meal. When we managed to get his attention he gave us the same attitude.
I had several wonderful meals here years ago. It seems that maybe they’ve changed management or are having trouble with staff now. We definitely will not be going back.
Food, atmosphere, service - everything was just perfect!!! Can't wait to go back!!!
I have been dining at Convivium since it first opened and love it. The food is always wonderful. This time, even though I had a reservation and there were tables free upstairs, we were seated down in the wine cellar and shortly after we got there a party of about 15 to 20 people showed up. They mingled loudly around the table for about 15 minutes and then sat and continued to be loud. It was difficult for me and my two companions to hear each other over the party's noise. When we left, we saw that there were still free tables that could have seated three upstairs. This was a pretty disappointing experience. With a party that large in the wine cellar, they shouldn't have been seating any other diners down there at all.
Came here a lot years ago when it first opened. Delighted to come back after several years to find the food is still first rate. Grilled octopus was tender and delicious, as was the the rabbit main course. On the other hand, the Nudi were bland, and there could be a few more vegetarian options.
This was my 3rd time at this restaurant and each time the food was great and the service was attentive. When in the area, it will be on my hit list and it should be on yours.
Great value! I enjoyed the special and my waiter recommended a delicious bottle of wine for my wife and I. Great find prior to a show at Barclay's.
Love going here before Islander games. Every time we go the food is consistently delicious. Lamb chops & Ravioli’s are amazing.
Wonderful evening!! Small intimate restaurant but they accomadated our party of 7 beautifully. Recommend reservation. Food and service were outstanding!!
Excellent little osteria with authentic Italian dishes by Italian chef via Sardinia and Rome.
His wife oversees the cozy dining room and there is a private dining room downstairs in the wine cellar.
Only beer andwine license but good choices.
Excellent service, food could be better...crispy skin on fish, not soggy, and seasoned better...especially artichoke and fish. However the ravioli was excellent. I wasn’t wowed by the food though.
I love this place! I brought my wife here for her birthday, and the staff went out of their way to make it a special night for her. The food is incredible, the service impeccable, and the decor makes you feel like you just traveled to Tuscany. I will absolutely be going back!
A bit of a drive from mid-town to Brooklyn, compounded by a tough parking scene, but the experience was worth the effort. Cozy, authentic Osteria, and cuisine to match.
We enjoyed the homemade pasta!!! My Ravioli was delicious! I can't wait to go back!
Absolutely wonderful. Second time I've been here and it was even better than the first time.
Great Food, Service and ambiance. Owners bought us an appetizer because she was just 5 minutes behind with a table. The Wine Cellar to dinner is a great spot!
The atmosphere is warm and homey, the food is delicious, the menu is well-sized, the service was attentive, the wine was delicious and the dessert was yummy as well.
My husband and I frequent Convivium for most of our special occasions. There really is no place like this in Brooklyn, and we thoroughly enjoy going whenever possible! We love the seating in the front, but were really pleased with the basement seating as well. Felt like we were eating in an old Italian wine cellar.
We always order the prawns. If you like shellfish, this is a MUST. I've never had Prawns like this in the US. They are fabulous. Hubby ordered the short rib tagliatelle and I ordered the pistachio crusted rack of lamb. Both were phenomenal.
This plays honestly never disappoints and I recommend 1000 times!
Loved it! The food was great! Will definitely be back.
Absolutely declicious - we had the gnocchi which was perfectly soft and so so fresh, and creamy burratta for an appetizer with heirloom green tomatoes that were to die for. my husband had the lamb and I had fresh homemade pasta. Great wine list as well. it's a small/cozy place so reservations recommended.
We came to the restaurant because of the atmosphere and we were most impressed by the food as well! We will return often. We shared the salad, octopus, and special copper pot- all very good but not very large portions other than the salad. We both had the lamb which was excellent-simply prepared and served with cauliflower. He flourless chocolate cake is not to be missed. We sat downstairs as it is quiet and super cozy.
The food is to die for !! Wine list is probably the best in bk without doubts. Angel is the best host, he's knows every single aspect of how to make you have the best dining experience. Hands down to this gem in Park Slope
This restaurant is a sure thing go to!! Always excited to try new things and they never disappoint. Had not had the artichoke in a while and it was just as delicious as it had been in the past. Topped off the night with some terrific port... always a great meal and evening!!
Food was delicious, the service was on point and the restaurant was lovely. We had the octopus appetizer, gnochhi and rabbit.
This meal was divine and the service was equally excellent. It seems to get better each time we dine there
Ive read up reviews before reserving a table and I was not disappointed. Loved everything about it. It is small and cozy, the decor is interesting. Lighting is dim and romantic. The food was exceptional. And ofcourse, there was the dessert.
We have been coming here for years and always love it.
A place I have dinner at every time I'm in Brooklyn.
Positives: The food was very good and the atmosphere is charming.
Negatives: Beware of their "back room" and (depending on the server, obviously) level of service. Despite making a reservation over a month in advance we were seated in that back room with no air conditioning, no windows, and no moving air on an incredibly hot day. Despite a polite request to reseat us, no effort was made to do so when alternate seating in their other A/C'ed rooms became available. No effort was made to proactively refill our drinks or check on us in the heat. It is understood that in a popular restaurant there will not always be alternate seating. However, it is both bizarre and unacceptable for a restaurant to charge this much and not at least have some kind of standing fan in place to ensure that guests can enjoy their meals without being cooked themselves.
The food and wine was excellent and all recommendations surpassed expectations.
Great food, great ambiance. On the loud side and a bit pricey but every dish was terrific so....go hungry and you won’t be disappointed.
Convivium Osteria is a lovely space but the acoustics are at odds with what otherwise wants to be an intimate candlelit atmosphere. Conversations carry so loudly from the tables around that it's ruinous in terms of atmosphere, not to mention intimacy. Beyond that, the air-conditioning was totally inadequate. I do not pay the kind of comparatively high prices that Convivium charges to feel uncomfortable and hot and sweaty for two hours, and I further do not expect, when I ask the restaurant host if the air-conditioning can be bumped up to be told that's just how it is and get a laugh. Really? This place isn't prepared for New York City summers? On the positive side, some of the food (one first course and one pasta selection) was good (though still not quite at the level of exceptional). But two other selections (another first course and a second pasta dish) were mediocre to poor. The two desserts we ordered were unimaginative and run of the mill. Finally, while wait staff was competent, they were neither friendly nor enthusiastic, just competent and well mannered. I don't expect fancy patter and jokes from a waiter, but some some indication that the customers are welcome and some signs of engagement with and/or enthusiasm for the bill of fare would have been nice. The best waiters make diners feel that they care about, and share in, the diners' pleasure. Not here. And I was also shocked that the food came out as quickly as it might in a cheap Chinese restaurant. So much for leisurely fine dining. I won't be back. This place does not seem to be trying.
Fabulous , cozy vibrant restaurant
Food was terrific
Wonderful Quaint restaurant. Good wine an atmosphere were wonderful. Loved wine cellar.
We went for the half off wine during their happy hour, but we really enjoyed all the dishes that were served. I love the octopus dish and my husband said the rabbit dish was one of the best he has tried. There is not a lot of space at this restaurant and I felt the tables were a bit close to each other.
