After several years and lots of hype, Beverly Hills' Sotto, one of LA’s great Italian restaurants is still warranting the praise.
Excellent ambience delicious food
We had an 8pm reservation. We waited 30 minutes to be served. It took another 10 for our server to greet us. We spent the rest of the evening waiting for EVERYTHING. When the salads finally showed up all but one showed up,10 minutes later it arrived. When the entrees finally came (which was at least 40 minutes after the appetizers) all but one came and that last one arrived 20 minutes later. The rest of us were done eating. The waiter opened our wine, we did all the pouring. He was a virtual ghost. They were cleaning the kitchen and the tables when they delivered our free dessert. The shame of it is, the food is really good. Just not good enough to come back. Sadly this will be a restaurant of one timers, no matter how good the food is, the service is not worth a return visit.
Food was a bit charred but service was great. Will probably be back but get other things LOL
I have eaten here about 20 times and every time is absolutely outstanding. Neighborhood gem that is a must visit.
As a native of LA and foodie this is one of the best restaurants that checks all the boxes for a wonderful experience. The management and staff make me feel completely valued! If you have not experienced the restaurant you are truly missing a treat!
I have eaten at restaurants thru Italy and love to cook, but must admit the food was exceptionally delicious! Best Margarita pizza I have eaten. I do wish they would add a seafood entree, a whole whitefish, or fillet baked w almonds, served with medley of veggies. Would love to go again with friends!
Great food and service
Everything was absolutely delicious, and loved the experience as a first-timer—from the street you really have no idea what you're walking in to.
Overrated. These days, upscale Italian restaurants like this one try to impress patrons with unusual dishes such as spaghetti with fish roe, and squid ink pasta, which make the chef look impressive and patrons feel sophisticated. However, the unfortunate fact is that these dishes often don’t taste great. And the chefs inability or reluctance to place simple classics like a well-done Bolognese on the menu, are a problem. And that’s what plagues this restaurant. Lots of sophisticated looking dishes, but nothing that tastes great. And certainly, none of the classics would tarnish this menu. Bottom line: Snobby and overrated.
We drove past it because it’s a little difficult to see from the street and access down three concrete steps was a little unexpected but we still were able to overcome those minor setbacks. Once inside the ambiance was wonderful, the food was great, and the service was friendly and very helpful. A little noisy but all in all a great place that I would definitely want to go back to and recommend.

Really enjoyed the relaxed neighbourhood vibe. Delicious fresh authentic food, every dish was excellent. Good advice on the wine steered us in the right direction.
I have come on numerous occasions, and this time was not the best. The food was still delicious, but not the same level of outstanding as usual. The pasta lacked a lot of flavor, but was cooked well. I recommend the pork, any of the roasted vegetable dishes, and the ragu pastas. The Diavolina pizza is also incredible!

I loved the Mixed greens and herb salad but wasn't a big fan of the Rigatoni because it was a bit too al dente
Quality of the food and service were excellent. Atmosphere is good for a date night (dimly lit, intimate tables, etc.). Portions were large and perfect for sharing.
A favorite of ours. Never disappoints. love all of the staff, so sincerely friendly. Fresh savory food and the negornis are stellar!
Truly one of the most memorable evenings out with my partner ever. Certainly one of the best dinners. I would never have tried octopus anything, but the very helpful and friendly waitress directed me there and indeed, I could not have been more surprised how amazing it was. She also helped me decide on the main plate that was fantastic (lemon chicken over sausage and beans).
I love this place, the food and service is always excellent. Never a disappointment, just a gem.
Sotto is a cozy tucked away downstairs restaurant with enough lighting to see your food or the menu and still feel like your in a dimly lit place. The food is solid and is clearly made fresh to order as the food takes the right amount of time to prepare and cook. My pasta dishes where hearty and hot with a good amount of flavor. Pizza was the same as pasta and had a nice chew. The sides were all very tasty and well prepared. This place is solid Italian with a few extras like a better than average bar and a few dishes put a spin on traditional. I will go back.
The staff was excellent! Very freindly and warm. The food was amazing.....the pork was to die for.
Timing of the service was great, and delicious cocktails. The pizza was really good but not the extraordinary that I was somewhat expecting from Sotto
The waiters are not only friendly and efficient, but also extremely knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant has an emphasis upon season foods. The dinner was excellent, as it has been each time we have been at this restaurant. We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys great food, often with original taste combinations that combine in an exciting way.
Loved it, great service. The Fiorata pizza (salami, provolone, honey!) was the star of the dinner so do not miss it. Can’t wait to come back!
I was really impressed by Sotto! The food was excellent ---and the service was amazing. Even if the food is great at a place, if the service is subpar, it can put a taint on the food experience. Our waiter was so helpful in explaining the menu and suggesting different items to try (his favorites) --you could tell he really enjoyed the food --and since I like talking about food (too much), it made me happy to try his suggestions, since he was so genuine about why he liked what he recommended.
The only negative, is the Valet's cost --the most I think I've every paid at a place --perhaps it's just due to the location of Sotto.
Great brick oven fired pizza. Outstanding homemade oven fired bread and olive oil. Terrific service. Will return.
Used to be the best Italian restaurant in LA. It's certainly still a good option but it has lost a lot of luster over the years, probably in some degree due to the departure of Steve Samson not overseeing everyday operations. While we had a nice time on the recent version, I probably won't return. Most dishes were still great (clams, octopus, chicken liver pasta, guanciale pizza) but some were flat (all other pastas and some pastas) and the dessert was actually pretty bad (icy, flavorless gelato). There are just too many great Italian options in this city now they you can rely on to be a solid meal then to spend money on a risky meal. I give them credit because they have had a great run (7.5 years!) and it's hard to do that in this city, but they are just not executing at the same level they used to.
We always enjoy Sotto, their food is yummy, I love the chicken liver rigatoni, their bread is so good, they have amazing cocktails and the ricotta and berries tart is fantastic.
I had a great time at Sotto—the service was always attentive without ever becoming overbearing. Drinks were inventive and delicious, and the pizza was some of the best around. I only wish I had more room to try other dishes... guess I'll just have to come back!
I had an Excellent Dinner with my Wife on our Anniversary. Squid Ink Pasta blew my MIND!

Sotto is one of our "go tos." The kitchen consistently delivers top notch food. And, the wine list is excellent. The only complaint I have (and it's clearly not a huge complaint because we keep coming back for more!) is that the noise level makes it hard to carry on a conversation.
The pasta was fantastic and definitely worth the price. We ordered cocktails and bread with olive oil to start, and both were overpriced and a little disappointing. The cocktails were small and made with pretty cheap liquor, and the bread, while thick and moist, was grilled, which gave it a bit of a bitter taste. It was also $7 for a side that at many places is complimentary, so I would not recommend the bread. However, the service was fantastic and the ambiance was great. Overall, it was perfect for a nice, romantic night out.
Sotto offers delicious food and incredible drinks in a beautiful building right on Pico. We went on a Thursday night and appreciated the ambiance, despite the popularity of the restaurant also contributing to its noisy atmosphere. Would recommend for dinner with friends or a special night out with a significant other.

Lovely place. Great food. Warm atmosphere, dimly lit. Feels like a New York restaurant. Great pizza and salad and the sweetest waitress. Will definitely be back for a romantic date!
The service was very friendly and on point. The pizzas are the star of the show! Of course the pasta dishes shine also. I had the chicken liver ragu with porcini mushroom pasta and will definitely come back again for it. Love this place!

To much money for wine and happy hour wine that was offered was poor quality. Not enough options for happy hour food.
