Piccolina Toscana is an Italian "tapas" restaurant featuring dining 'til midnight, a lively pastry bar, chef tastings and brunch. For 20 years, Toscana has been a favorite among locals.View Private Dining Details
We met some friends for a casual dinner. The booths are great for conversation and dining. The cheese plate was a nice starter. The service was attentive and we felt comfortable and they did not rush us through dinner.
We had a perfect brunch, with perfect food and excellent service. I love this establishment for their Sunday brunch. Thank you again.
I am a regular customer. The dining area has been divided so that there is a quieter back room. The buffet was just OK, I will keep to the menu. Our waiter was a disaster, kept disappearing, took forever to bring the wine and then it was not what was ordered (brought a bottle of red, not white).
Had a great dinner on Friday night. Place was crowded and all was handled well
We went to the Sunday dinner buffet last week and really enjoyed the variety of foods available at the buffet. The price was very reasonable: $20 for all the food which included a variety of salads, breads, soups, pastas, pizzas, hot entrees and desserts. My favorites that night were the beet salad, angel hair pasta, and crab cakes. I hope this Sunday buffet offering continues for a long time for excellent food and excellent value!
Food is delicious, but very small portions for cost. We had excellent service, and the salmon and risotto is beyond amazing. Not typical Italian food with huge portions
I recently had brunch at Piccolina Toscana. This was my second brunch experience there this summer.
They offer a good selection of brunch entrees in addition to the buffet. The buffet offers soup, fresh fruit salad, a nice variety of green and pasta salads, as well as an antipasto tray and mini desserts: all were very tasty. My only suggestion about the food is to go easy on the salt for the frittata: it was much too salty.
Our server was attentive, and the staff are friendly.
The atmosphere in the restaurant can stand some improvement. The bathrooms need upgrading, and the lighting is inadequate: the space is too dark, even on a sunny day.
I think Piccolina Toscana’s sunday brunch is a good value, and I would recommend it.
First, we had ressies but the the hostess didn't seat us right away due to the wait staff being a tad behind-KUDOS!!! to that decision. We had a drink at the bar then about 15 minutes she came to seat us. Our waitress was pleasant and courtesy the whole evening. For dinner. Bread was awesome, Beet and Caesar salads were nicely done, polpo with coucous was nice, three different ravioli dishes were all excellent. Service was well paced. A very nice evening out, have been here before, and will return.
Hostess did best to accommodate our group of 5. Waiter good but neglected to pack my leftover. Liked old atmosphere better than modern one.
Excellent buffet and a wonderful space. Perfect for a birthday dinner celebration.
I so want this restaurant to be good because it is convenient, and I've loved it for years. However, it just doesn't seem to be the same place. The service was mediocre at best which it never was that way. The food was acceptable but not special like it use to be. I didn't want to write this review, but I hope the owner/manager will read this and bring it back to what use to be.
I go to Toscana at least 4 times a month. On service Sunday night was terrible. We asked for bread and when we finished our meal, it still hadn't arrived. The coffee was lukewarm. Our waiter was running all over the restaurant and outside. We had to flag him down to get any service. The buffet servings were not replenished so when we went to get our dinner, many of the selections were empty. It was not a good experience. It was so unlike our other visits.
Food was excellent. Our server was very nice but not attentive. We had to flag her down to order food, to get our food packed up, and to get the check. I do not think this was because she was busy with other tables as we often could see her socializing with staff by the kitchen. Not a negative experience but just something that kept us from giving the restaurant 5 stars in light of their delicious food. Otherwise really enjoyed our dining experience.
Just wonderful. I had not been in several years. Loved the atmosphere. We were there pretty early for dinner and it was a weekday, so perhaps not the best time to get an idea about noise and such.
was suppressed haven't been there in a year, food is very good and the platters have increased, before was disappointed potions were so small for value. will go back and appreciate the tabled for 2 against the walls are gone, good job hate staring at a wall all night.
Never disappoints. Always good food. 8 people had 8 different dishes and everyone raves about the meal.
This is our second time dining in. We were also recent catering customers of Toscana To Go. The selections, food preparation and presentation have been top notch. On this occasion our waitress was less than enthusiastic about serving us. There was a long delay between our arrival and seating by the host who also delivered water and bread to the table well before the waitress arrived. She did not offer the selection of specials until we asked. When we were finished with our meals we experienced another long delay as she engaged in extended conversations with the other parties she was serving.
In our opinion, this is such a strong restaurant that we will not let an under performing member of the wait staff tarnish our overall opinion of the business. We had an awesome waitress on our first time visiting and an equally awesome experience with Apple Logan in the catering division. I would suggest that the management pay closer attention to the work habits of the waitresses and waiters to maintain the high level of quality service that patrons are accustomed to.
Wonderful local dining pleasure
The food was ok but thats about all the 4 of us found almost redeeming. The restaurant on a Sunday evening was not busy but drinks took 10 min to arrive. After looking over the menu, it seemed less extensive than what we had seen online, granted it was a sunday and their fresh seafood delivery must come monday, fair enough. We did, however, order the calamari which was on the menu, only to find it was unavailable also, wait staff was unaware at the time of placing the order. Not having a menu item was not a big deal, but it was an indication of the rest of the experience at the restaurant. The apps arrived after a wait as well only to find that 1 of the 3 that were ordered was incorrect; not even close. The app was send back and since it had taken so long it was decided to just remove the order. We thought we were through it but once we looked over at the kitchen pickup we knew something was up. There was a 5+minute conversation between the kitchen and our waiter about our order, which we knew since we were the only table waiting to be served (not the issue). This conversation didnt seem to clear anything up since, once again, one of the 4 entrees was incorrect and our waiter seemed unaware that he delivered the wrong item. This time we just decided to accept the meal and forget about trying to rectify it. Our waiter was nice but seemed not to want to take responsibility, rather indicated that the problems were the result of issues in the kitchen and the bar and did not write down anything ordered.
Excellent, super-flavorful main pasta dishes of eggplant-filled ravioli with mushrooms, and shrimp risotto. Chef was happy to sub spinach for the asparagus in the risotto for me. Salads were big and Caesar was very good. A little slow to fill our water, but otherwise good service.
We booked our table at 2:00 on a Sunday, not realizing that they served a brunch until 2:00 and didn't take any additional reservations at 2:00. The restaurant called me on the way and told me they couldn't seat us in the brunch area, but could seat us in the bar. That is where we sat and it was fine. I would have preferred to sit it the dining room, but couldn't. It was really our fault for booking so late in the day. They took care of us well once we got there.
Got the tuna dish and it was very over seasoned, my husband had the wild boar bolognese and it was too salty. Caprese salad was excellent. Service was nice but slow.
Sunday brunch is a good value at $20. The food and service were excellent. Good selection at the buffet - Italian pasta dishes, delicious tomato bisque, fresh salads, cheese board, fresh fruit; and the frittata on the menu was yummy. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
My one suggestion for this venue would be some renovations: the rest rooms have an old and tired look; and the dining room can stand some improvements in the lighting and seating. The semi-circular sofas are a bit of a challenge to get in and out. Window blinds should be full length and operable. Those seated facing the windows are faced with glare.
Pasta was delicious! Service was slow and it was very loud. We ordered aperol spritzers and they sucked. No orange (served with lime) and you couldn’t taste the aperol.
Excellent as always!
Amazing food & great wait staff! I’ve never had a bad meal...food is fresh & amazing!
Food and service good as always. I enjoyed the grilled avocado as my wife did the carpaccio. She had the portabella cap stuffed with crab imperial (which was an appetizer special) as her main course and loved it. I had my go-to standard of ravioli a la brasata which was excellent as usual. Their cocktails are good also, but the bartender can be a bit slow.
We've been customers for many years through various transitions from formal to casual but always excellent food and service. We live an hour away but stop each time we are near the area on trips. It was our anniversary and the brunch was tasty. Excellent handmade tortellini.
We had out of town visitors whom we took around Wilmington to show off the area. We ended our travels at Piccolina and had a wonderful meal. The service was efficient, the wine selection very satisfactory and the food delicious.
Pasta special, which was a substitute for a regular menu item, was excellent. House-made fettuccine was in a light lemon sauce with crab, shrimp, and calamari. My wife is allergic to shrimp, so hers just had crab. We both agreed it was one of the best pasta dishes we’ve ever had.
Excellent service and very good food. Menu variety was a bit more limited than we recalled in earlier iterations of this restaurant and its somewhat ratty presentation (the menu itself) was more suited to a diner than an upper-level eatery. Wine selection by the glass was very good. Definitely worth another visit.
You can always count on the Sunday brunch and dinner buffet to be great! Excellent service and a terrific atmosphere. A real gem in Wilmington’s Trolley Square area. Dan, the owner is almost always there, and is as welcoming as his fantastic staff.
It was Mother's Day and understood it would be busy but we waited 20 minutes for our server to acknowledge us..I went up to the hostess after waiting 15 minutes and they still didn't come right away. Didn't know it was a buffet that night. The hot food was cold and dried out . I love this restaurant but was extremely disappointed this night. $30 per person for bad service and cold food is not acceptable...there was a lot of empty tables so that made it more frustrating.
Excellent Service from Steve! We were here for a Mothers' Day Brunch (originally a group of 6, bumped up to a group of 7) and EVERYONE left pleased! That Brunch Buffet was top notch! Would recommend!
We originally went on a Saturday several months ago before 5pm but were not aware that the restaurant was not open for lunch on Saturdays. Staff was very kind, apologetic and invited us to return.
I have to admit that it was well worth the wait. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and received great reviews on Yelp and other sites. The restaurant was busy (good) and waitress was scrambling between a large number of indoor and outdoor diners. She was very apologetic but our wait time was not really that bad. Her service was cordial and attentive. The food was excellent and served at a good temperature and was well presented. Our teenage son is a vegetarian and enjoyed one of several pasta options. The only regret was not saving room for desert. We were approached by panhandlers in the parking lot on arrival, which made us a little uneasy at first, but they were not obnoxious.
Convenient location for a business lunch. Quiet atmosphere facilitated conversation.
Adequate assortment of luncheon food, willing to do minor modifications to specified options.
Attentive but not obtrusive service
We came for our anniversary since we had our first dinner date at Toscana and we' weren't disappointed. The food was great. Our server was friendly and pleasant although he did seem to forget about us for a while after bringing us the menus. After he took our order everything went smoothly. There was a glitch with the bill which he quickly and cheerfully corrected. I got the impression he may have been relatively new to the job. With his great smile and friendly attitude he'll be terrific once he learns the routine.
Was told the kitchen closed before my reservation; the servers seemed clueless.
As always our experience at Piccolina Toscana was great. The food was exceptional, the service was attentive, but not to the point of being annoying and the ambiance was relaxed and fun. We can always count on a good time and good food when we stop in.
First time eating there on a Sunday and didn’t know that there was a limited menu with a buffet. Breadsticks seemed old, not warm, and the oil had no flavor. The buffet was just ok. The pasta was way too soft from sitting in the pans. The circle tables need to be updated, they are old and very worn out. I didn’t sit outside but there is an option and I would t recommend sitting outside. The seats looked very uncomfortable. I personally would not recommend eating here but they have a fun bar area with a TV for sports. Many beer selections and plenty of seating. Our waiter was very nice.
