About this restaurant

Carmelite Bar and Grill in Aberdeen is the crowning glory of a stunning refurbishment of the very cool, historic Carmelite building. The antique revolving doors lead into a hip lounge and informal restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows and sleek design – a perfect backdrop for the warm service and uncomplicated cuisine. Local Scottish produce is the base for signature dishes like seared scallops with cauliflower puree and tarragon cream, Forest mushroom, asparagus and onion tart and Fillet of Angus beef with crisp marrow artichoke. Flexible weekend brunch menus make Carmelite the only place to be with the in-laws or the Sunday papers.

Firstly, no mention of £5 deposit per head on the website, so this was paid over the phone a day before our reservation. The drinks are vastly over priced and you wait an eternity for them arriving. The high tea was disgusting, the sandwiches would not have been enough for 2 children, on white bread, no choice there, and the filling was practically non existant. There was hardly any cakes and what there was looked shop bought, and the scones looked like flat bread rolls. And finally the bloke playing the piano was just a nuisance, not adding anything to the place but an unwanted noise. A few people wanted to pull the plug of his amp.

I would tell everyone the Carmelite is a Must Do on their agenda of places to ear. Friendly service and really good choices on the menus. I found this wee gem fairly recently and have already been three times!

Saw an advert for Sunday special roasts at the Carmelite so went there. I had the gammon, and it was really good....large portion and tasty. Another in our group had the chicken, and whilst it was good....they said it would have been better if it had been slices of chicken, rather than on the bone. The 3rd main was gammon from the regular menu, and it was no where near as good as the Sunday special roast. The 4th main was macaroni and chips - not good. The macaroni had breadcrumbs on the top, instead of browned cheese, and the chips were cold. Service was excellent. Lady started singing at the piano and spoilt atmosphere. Would stick to background music.

Worst service i've had in ages. Man in charge of front of house was rude and at no time asked how things were with the food. The food was average but the service let the whole place down.

Carmelite during Aberdeen Jazz Festival to see the Harlaw Jazz band and Combo. My friend had phoned 3x the night before to find out if they could eat early as she was bringing an elderly relative. Told it would be ok but on arriving she was rudely told food would not be available until 12.30. When she asked for the manager,he merely shrugged and was uninterested/ £8 for a main course. Dishes very small. Food took a long time to arrive. Macaroni (fairly tasteless) with garlic bread-no garlic bread but quite nice ciabatta instead -not worth the money. Fish which tasted stale and fishy so not fresh- very small portion. Coffee was very good value and tasted nice. Soft drinks at the bar were reasonably priced. Entertainment was brilliant!!

The food and service at the Carmalite was excellent, our compliments to the chef, and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the choices on the menu. I would highly recommend it and will definitely be going back many times.
