Headed by Jason Ang (ex Gilt Lounge and Sokyo) and bar manager Yoshi Onishi (ex Stitch and Victoria Room), Tokyo Bird combines the best of Tokyo’s yakitori-ya and classic cocktail bars in an intimate Sydney laneway small bar.
Would highly recommend the Smoked Hunter. Food was very good.
Very cool vibe and friendly staff. Mostly serving drinks - huge whiskey menu
Just a fun vibe and delicious food.
Great food and something for all in cocktails. Japanese whiskies expensive but will try a whisky flight next time
Cool vibe. Had a fun time. Table service was slow but fine if you were there for a chat.
We've been to Tokyo Bird a few times now and it never fails to impress. A small but very friendly space, quirky, the staff are always great and you can relax in safe hands. The menu is quite short, but everything on it is a taste treat. The Japanese whisky selection is huge but they're rather expensive unless you're a connoisseur, which we are not. We swapped to Japanese beer and Scotch/Bourbon. Altogether a great evening out on a wintry night.
Great yakitori. Excellent selection of Japanese and other whiskies. Good place to meet up with a couple of friends.
Great place! Great nibbles and drinks. Loved it! Had a few drinks, staff were good. Place was comfy. Fantastic experience.
It's my go-to place for amazing drinks with good company. The service is absolutely fantastic and very chill ambiance. Love it.
Food was great, cocktails were amazing! And staff were extremely friendly. I even got a free drink because it was my birthday! Great service!
One of the best late night spots in Sydney the food and drinks are on point and they are consistant the wait staff know there menus and definatly ask them for there favs as they are totally worth the adventure
Awesome little yakitori and cocktail place, with delicious food and drinks. It was my friends birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. Will definitely go back!
Cool place, great vibe. Food was good, but I think due to a bit of a mix up it all cane out at the same time resulting in a few items getting cold pretty quickly.
Our server did apologise for this as soon as they brought it over. Service was good. Sake recommendations pleased enormously.
The chicken hearts were spot on!
Food is overpriced. A plate of 2 skewers cost $14. Recommend going if you just want to have a drink and chat with your mates but not to have dinner or else you'll end up paying the equivalent of a 3-course meal.
Tucked away in a laneway in Surry HillsnToko Bird has a feel of a Melbourne small bar and a hint of a Japanese Izakaya. Service was ok but considering the amount of staff could have been faster. Food was good and so was the beer. Great for a a few drinks and a small bite to eat just as a Izakaya should be really.
I went to Tokyo Bird for a work dinner/drinks on a Thursday night and it was fantastic. Great food, great atmosphere! Excellent selection of drinks too - sake, whisky, cocktails, beer, wine. We stayed until closing time. Will definitely return!
Like being in Tokyo. Best whisky bar in Sydney. Food is awesome. Great place.
cramped, incredibly loud. Slow service. Food reasonable, drinks good.
nice food and staffs
Amazing Japanese whiskey selection. Great tasting food, especially the Gyoza. Great atmosphere and the staff were really friendly.
Amazing place to go for a drink and some amazing food! really enjoy every time I go.
Really enjoyed the food and drinks at Tokyo Bird and will definitely be back again. A great date night spot or for some drinks with friends!
It was a quiet evening, but still had a nice vibe. Food was delicious and nice selection of sake and whiskey. Will have to come back to do a tasting.
Great little Japanese themed bar. Unlike Baxters, this place is really quiet and intimate so you can have a good conversation. The cocktails are awesome and there are plenty to choose from. Highly recommend this place for a casual drink with a friend or a date. Its a little expensive and the food is limited...but as far as bars go, this place is one of the best gems in Sydney
First time to the bird and was hectic!! Felt welcomed from the moment we stepped in. The staff were very personal snd attentative even though it was jam packed. Vibrant but still able to hold our quick business chat. Food was amazing snd drinks selection was crazy!!! Wish they had a k room or bar games like dice etc as would have stayed all night!! Definately back soon. Thank you so much for a great night!! AsianG
Great hidden gem. Amazing cocktails. Authentic Japanese yakitori with great twists. Great deco and cool ambience.
Really smooth atmosphere, great staff, nice easy food and drink options! Perfect first date spot
Very cool bar and great cocktails but food was average. Cold edamame beans, cold scallops on skewers. Quite disappointing food
Service was not great. Everything else - amazing, food, atmosphere, anime on the wall :)
Fantastic. Have been several times and always enjoyed. Great food, great drinks, warm and friendly environment and service.
Disappointed food. They are specialized "Yakitori" Japanese style chicken skewer. Selected menu and good review so I was expected good but their way of grill is not good. Soggy, no much smokey flavour and bit cold. It should be hot/warm, tender and charcoal smoky flavour, at least this price.
Drink selection, atmosphere was great.
Won't come back.
Absolutely fantastic food, we loved it.
Seafood was so beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious.
Chicken Karaage was a llittle heavy - coating too thick ... that was the only less than perfect thing
everything else was spot on
Great local bar..many whisky options..with very good Japanese food.
Loved this place. Will definitely be back. They made my birthday celebrations a sweet treat with my posse of loved ones around sharing in delicious Japanese fare.
Very knowledgeable bartenders that provided a memorable journey through Japanese Whiskey
With a charming atmosphere, wall to wall whisk(e)y and an authentic yakatori experience it is difficult to get an experience like this outside of going to Japan. I highly recommend going for a relaxed bit to eat with good simple dishes.
It was good overall. My husband really liked the list of Japanese wines & whiskeys. The foods were okay, but not too great. Quite pricy for the portions. However, the ambience was outstanding! Enjoyed the experience overall.
We celebrated a birthday. The staff went our of their way to make it special and engage with us when they knew we love our whiskeys. On the expensive side, but worth it. Great place in a laneway, would definitely be back.
Awesome place, lots of character and the food is so good, highly rated!
Came to celebrate my brother's birthday. A pleasant surprise and a local gem. I loved the friendly service and the relaxed atmosphere. Amazing cocktails and I loved the skewers! This was my first visit but I will definitely be coming back again.
