Very great! Would go back for sure!
It was interesting experience. Space is pretty mod/retro feeling but tastefully done. Waiter was attentive without being obtrusive. Mussels were good although sourdough was burnt. Sweet potato salad was simple & good. The daurade fish & Thai sausage were excellent.
I have now tried almost everything at Proxi over multiple visits - and almost all the food items (the steak being the one exception) are great to outstanding. The handcrafted cocktails are also great. The one knock on Proxi is service. Especially in the restaurant area. It is slow and inattentive. We found ourselves constantly trying to wave down our server and inquire about drinks and dishes that were not delivered. This ruins an otherwise great meal. I hope Proxi takes a long hard look at whether they have sufficient wait staff, and fine tune how they are trained.
Tempura Elotes & Vietnamese Crepes were excellent. Massaman Curry was too smoky & heavy.
Service could be tighter
Worth dining there if have not before.
Varied menu, middle size plates great to share for 2, some mains, flavorful and fresh.
Eclectic global menu and artisanal cocktails in a previously deserted (now lively and fun) area of the West Loop. Go for the excellent service and lively atmosphere.
Great atmosphere! Great food! Great service! I've been to Proxi at least half a dozen times and it never disappoints! The miang kham "one bite wrap" was new on the menu. It definitely had a bite to it and was delicious!
Proxi has created an excellent menu with creative food options. The chicken and whole fish were exceptional protein options. Great for 4 or more people as some dishes were small and nice to share samples with other people.
We went to Proxi for a special occasion and had a great time. The food and service were perfect! Our server was enthusiastic, explained the menu, knew the ingredients well, and made some terrific suggestions. The food was unique, delicious and beautifully plated. We had an amazing food experience and will go back again! Great job, Proxi! Beautiful restaurant!!
Everything was good, not blown-away, but tasty enough, until we ordered the mussels, which was horrible. I would take that dish off the menu. Good mussels should be enhanced by simple flavors, not covered up in a sauce that is less delicious than the mussels.
We went for brunch because an old friend worked there. The food and service were wonderful. The server knew the menu and ingredients well and made knowledgeable recommendations. The bloody Mary’s were awesome. All of the food we had was great, but the elotes tempura and the son in law egg were the most notable. The tempura was light and fluffy around a version of a corn fritter and was amazing. I would definitely go back even if I didn’t know anyone there.
First this review is for the brunch service. Not the dinner service which I would rate a lot higher. Also, this was the first day of the brunch service and there are bound to be a few things that need more work. Our small plates (Sourdough toast and shrimp toast) were well executed but nothing special. Our karge plates (Uttapam and Cemitas Milanesa) were the ones that we felt needed a bit more work. Overall we felt that the kitchen favored sweet to savory in thier preparations - even for savory dishes. The uttapam was very good but the tiny seeds added for texture were hard enough to the point of being able to break a tooth (maybe over roasted). The cemitas milanesa was sweeter that we expected and was hard to eat as the sandwich fell apart easily. As I said, Day One. I will certainly go back as there are so many more items on the menu that I would like to try. If you are tired of the same old brunch menus city wide - Proxi is the very opposite.
We went for their first brunch. It was fantastic. Wish I could have tried more. Carbonara Potatoes and Kimchi Fried Rice were my favorites. The PROXI donut was a great way to start.
Great food, great price and a great place to hang out with friends.
Outstanding restaurant. Jordan, server, was excellent. The food was fabulous.
Overall, was fantastic. I had been there once a year ago but this time surpassed the last. Except for the company!
Service was fair to poor: waiter was difficult to find and though he spent a good portion of the evening just past our table chatting with a coworker, it was impossible to get his attention.
Dining partner had a shellfish allergy and the first thing we asked was for the waiter to identify the dishes with shellfish. He named two items but as we ordered in phases, he on two separate occasions had to correct himself and let us know that the dishes we were trying to order also had shellfish.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Proxi! The food was delicious and very creative. We loved the elote tempura and would go back for just that. We did have an odd waiter experience who told us that "burrata is for women" and "potatoes are for men," which rubbed us the wrong way, but overall great experience and would 100% go again!
Service was outstanding. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and efficient. No, he’s not a friend or relative😉. Food was excellent. Love that Proxy a special request for “plain” broccoli for my son. Cool-looking restaurant but noise level was really high. Other than that, it was great!
Delicious food, wonderful service (even accommodated our change in group size without issue) , fun atmosphere. Our waiter Abraham was great and didn't rush us at all, which is always nice!
Delicious and unique shared plates. Everything we ordered (most recommended by the server) was amazing!! Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the west loop.
Our waiter was kinda arrogant and unattentive. The bar tender was so weird. We couldn’t figure If he was being arrogant, couldn’t hear us or whatever...
Really liked the food and ambience. Would just say the price for the food is a bit high but I don’t know many tapas places that is not that way. Really enjoyed the Secreto and the duck dumplings!
Incredible food with incredible service. The menu is creative and delicious and a great asset and stand out to the Chicago restaurant scene.
Really enjoyed food, which included many creative bright dishes. The lamb kabob special, octopus, and burrata were all memorable. Service on the other hand was a bit spotty and the wait for our first round of drinks was unacceptably long. Also worth mentioning that the wine list was limited - featured California only wines which I found disappointing.
The menu is much more Asian-influences than one would guess or from what I had known. THe waiter was nice but poorly trained and did not know the menu and did not describe things accurately or well after we asked questions.
Second time for us at Proxi. Better than the first time (which was when we sat at the chef's bar facing the kitchen)
Their sauces enhance every dish and the wait staff is first rate.
Slight warning....try to get a table by the window, rather than in the center of the restaurant, as it gets quite noisy and conversation can get a bit strained.
Definitely try the sausage, the pork jerky, the coconut tuna and the fish of the day. All different and thoughtfully prepared.
Our waiter Jordan was great!!
Fourth time dining here... Amazing food as always.
Absolutely wonderful! Definitely fit for foodies, with Chef Andrew standing at the helm (he's quite reserved and was very focused on the kitchen on a busy Saturday night). Definitely try to sit at the chef's counter. Staff and servers are extremely knowledgable and unbelievably friendly. Can't wait to go back!
Two couples dined at Proxi on a Saturday evening in October. We ordered several dishes, which we all shared. Standouts: Tempura Elotes, Slagel Farm Pork Porterhouse, Grilled Young Chicken. Very good: Roasted Broccoli, Shaved Zucchini, Coal Roasted Mussels, Duck Dumplings, Baby Octopus. Not as good: Crispy Vietnamese Crepe. Excellent cocktails and good wine menu. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Our server had excellent suggestions and was quite helpful. This restaurant is definitely worth trying; it's a fun place to go with friends, and we would return.
Wayyyyyyy too noisy. We were seated almost at communal seating wth the couple next to us and they were super loud—kinda killed the evening for us.
The food was inconsistent: pumpkin app was nice, but very mild/bland. The pork entree was delicious but over the top garlic.
Also both of us smelled like kitchen/cooking smells for the rest of the night.
Just didn’t hit any of the right notes for us.
This was my third dinner experience at Proxi and impressed each and every time. Very creative and flavorful dishes that represent many different regions of the world. Can’t wait to return!!!!
Great, inventive food. Consistent quality from starters through dessert. Not absurdly priced which makes it a decent value. The tempura elote is awesome.
Great place and amazing food . Me, my wife and my infant we had a table high top and we put the stroller and it was a nice ambience .thanks to the manager who provided this and we had a good experience.
It's nice to see good bar service and good table service at a young and trendy restaurant. And the food is creative and outstanding.
Food was delicious. Service attentive. Warm atmosphere. We will be back.
My friend and I were near by and decided to give it a try! The moment we walked through the door, we loved the ambiance, the service was great, waiters were very attentive and all of their suggestions were on point! We loved it! Will recommend and will come back for more!! 😍❤️ Thank you for re-making my drink!!
Always amazing! - awesome service, fabulous food, wonderful interiors. What’s not to love...
Had a great father/son dinner here before the Bulls game. Only complaint is that their amazing lamb ribs are no longer on the menu. Bring back the lamb ribs and the world will be a better place
