Dinner was excellent as always. We lucked out and got to enjoy a number of dishes off the happy hour menu. Service was prompt; we never felt like we had to wait long for drinks appetizers or food.

Another delicious dinner at Japonessa. The food and service are great and we loved the seasonal November Rain roll. Bowls of miso soup are so warm and comforting to start the meal this time of year too. Our server got us out in plenty of time for our show which helps for a stress-free evening.

Japonessa is a reliable and great spot close to the waterfront and the SAM. Creative fusion and traditional menu items and fantastic service. I wish I knew our servers name - he was helpful and easy going which we enjoyed. Thanks for a great family lunch out!

We sat for almost 10 minutes waiting for server. She was very nice & clearly busy but a long time to wait without being acknowledged. We were seated next to a very large loud party & was difficult to hear conversation at our table. We are visiting Seattle and The food is always very good but this was the 3rd time we have eaten here and was not the favored experience.

The sushi nigiri cuts were small, the sticky rice was not sticky enough and crumbled. The server was great, but overall I thought it was overpriced for the small sushi nigiri. Sorry , just being honest

Our server was quite attentive and made sure we got our last nigiri order and dessert within plenty of time before we needed to leave for the show. We went to Japonessa in Seattle, while visiting on a three day mother-daughter trip. We made a point of going for 4:30 at happy hour, as we were on a budget. From a visual perspective, the restaurant looked a little beat up - which is in contrast to the “chic” vibe it is trying to emulate. Our server was lovely and attentive, but where Japonessa really fell short was the sushi. We ordered signature and crunch rolls on the HH menu and were very underwhelmed. In our opinion the flavours and execution just weren’t there. That said, our salad and agedashi tofu were very good. Maybe we are spoiled by a plethora of great sushi in Vancouver. This all said, the table beside seemed to really enjoy their food and there were scads of people waiting to get in when we left. So Japonessa must be doing something right - just not for us.

Took forever to have anyone come take an order. Drinks or food. By the time we were waited on, we ordered drinks and food. One salad came out. Eventually drinks showed up. I asked about my sunomono salad. The one the waiter repeated back when I ordered. Drinks were overpriced and very bland. Food showed up before salads were done. Sashimi and rolls were incredible. Maybe just a bad service night as our waiter was more personable and attentive later

Took over 25 minutes before a server came to our table to even greet us. The server, while serving the table next to us, told us to “watch it” while he set down plates at the table next to us, we were no where close to being in his way, unless I was to reach out and slap the food out of his hands. The server also didn’t understand a simple menu question we asked, and simply repeated his answer the same, even though we asked the question several different ways to be clear, also seemed as if he was a bad AI program. The rolls fell apart and were nothing the like they used to be. The wasabi was watery and fluorescent green (I know it’s not the real thing to begin with, but it was not good) the ginger was old, dry and woody. We are local and have been to Japonessa 40 times over the past 10 years. It’s become a tourist trap restaurant.

The extended Happy Hour menu is excellent - quality rolls, kitchen bites and sushi very well priced and ample portions; and while the regular menu is a bit more expensive/ it’s more expansive and you get a fair value for the quality and portion sizes. At Happy Hour (served from open to early evening) you’ll enjoy a very satisfying meal without breaking the bank in a comfortable, well appointed and lively but not loud setting. Definitely a go to for lunch if you are downtown and are craving Japanese.

Excellent. One of my favorite restaurants in Seattle and perhaps my favorite sushi restaurant in the US. Tres Diablo roll one of my favorites. The bar situation isn’t that great. Takes a long time to get drinks. Bar service could be improved but otherwise Japonessa is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Our server was excellent. She was engaging, came back frequently to check on us and even with a mix up of getting someone else's appetizers, she said they were on the house and we were free to have at them. I live in Spokane and don't visit Seattle often, but Japonessa Sushi Cocina is the first place I want to go when I'm there and recommend to anyone who hasn't been yet. The food is always fresh, and the cheesecake is my personal favorite. 10/10 every time.

Wonderful happy hour experience -- fabulous miso soup (not on happy hour but don't let that stop you), excellent, super fresh fish and sushi, love the Spicy Spider. We'd spent three hours enjoying SAM and were ready for happy hour and were NOT disappointed. Sapporo on tap and a great menu -- look forward to my next visit and still savoring the yummy sushi!
