Restaurant Soba Nippon - Permanently Closed

Japanese
Permanently Closed - Soba Nippon is located on Fifth Avenue in the center of Manhattan, right by Rockefeller Center, the Theater District, and many shopping destinations. We serve homemade Soba (buckwheat noodles) and Tofu using buckwheat and soybean harvested on our very own farm in Canada. We were the first restaurant to serve the real Teuchi (hand-made) soba in New York City and we created the original Soba Salad, which has now become one of the most popular Japanese dishes in the world. There are many health advantages in eating Soba, since it is low in calories and rich in nutrients. A single serving of Soba contains only 132 calories and offers lots of protein, vitamins B1, B2, E, and leuthin. In addition to Soba we serve many varieties of Kobachi (Japanese tapas) accompanied with our excellent selection of sake and wine. Soba Nippon was featured in the Emmy Nominated television series, Sex in the City, and has been highly praised by Eric Asimov of the New York Time

Enjoyed the salad, salmon teriyaki and miso soup. Hot soba wasn't as good as expected, according to reviews. I had the one with fried tofu - I suggest trying something else.

Go-to restaurant in the 50's for business lunch--traditional noodle shop but with excellent service. Full sushi menu as well but prefer the noodles/soups.

When we arrived we were told that sushi was no longer available at dinner, only for lunch. The main reason that we chose this restaurant was that it was sushi close to RCMH. This was not stated anywhere on their website. When we looked at the menus (all three), we noticed that they were shorter and different the one online. Two of three items I ordered, were not available: uni and toro tuna. On a Friday. They had no tuna, uni, or squid. At a Japanese restaurant. We will not be back.

Soba Nippon has been a favorite of ours as we visit each time we come to NYC. The food is genuinely authentic Japanese. They are mainly a soba (buckwheat) noodle venue, but their farms grow the buckwheat that produce the outstanding tasting soba noodles. The salmon carpaccio was an amazing starter. We will revisit Soba Nippon again when ever we're craving authentic soba dishes.

This is the dish I keep coming back for - chicken breast and cold soba over greens -- and it always tastes the same. Which is a good thing, a very good thing. The only thing that does change about the dish is the price, which is now $28.

Came here on a week night and it was pretty quiet; waiters were attentive. We shared the cold soba with egg - such a clean and light flavor, and the dipping sauce was tasty. We also shared the hot soba with minced pork and it was a little too much/salty. We shared the shishito peppers (good, but some spicy ones) and also the chicken yakitori (ok); I would just go back for the cold soba and also the dessert - we shared the green tea mochi and it was delicious.

Best soba noodles in town by far and it's a bit pricey but portions are good. If you want to save some money, do go there before noon for their early bird specials. This place gets real busy after that on weekdays due to work crowd. It's quieter on evenings. If you are looking for Sushi or Shashimi, look somewhere else.

Great food and traditional noodle house décor - which was perfect for my group of 4, but for some reason it bothered other diners (who remarked about the excellent quality of the food). Great prices, and your can see fresh noodles being made in the front of the restaurant.
