Our appetizers were delicious and well cooked, but the main course, specifically the lamb tasted old, dry, over cooked and hands down the worst lamb had at any restaurant. The duck was also very dry. Service was slow and uninterested. By far the worst Fairmont I've ever been too.
I had not been to the Q before, but I had dined at the Empress in the old days back in the 1980's. The atmosphere is very relaxed, but the service is still attentive while not overdone. The food was done to perfection with little touches such as nasturtium leaves. I enjoyed the evening and I will return sooner than before.
Our waiter, Lorne, was a delight. We were celebrating our anniversary and he made sure that we were comfortable and had everything just right. A most memorable night.
This was a lovely alternative to tea at the empress. Took my 14 year old daughter and we had a great brunch, excellent service and the food was great value, highly recommend!
This restaurant has been renovated since my last visit. The food wonderful but very pricey. The service was very elegant and we appreciated it a lot
We went here for our anniversary. Our server took amazing care of us and helped make the evening even more special. The food was wonderful and the local ingredients -- the honey mussels -- were a real treat.
Wonderful venue to celebrate our anniversary. Maddie our server was wonderful and added that extra touch. Thank you!
For my first Solo Dinner i must say this was an excellent meal. I would recommend the lamb it was absolutely delicious.
Excellent food, service and ambience as always. Exceptional cappuccino.
We experienced an intimate event for a small group for my husband’s birthday. We loved the ambiance of the environment and the exquisite decor. Every member of the party was delighted. Thank you very much
I have been here multiple times with out a problem, but on our last visit there was some sort of problem in the kitchen. Our entrees took more than an hour to be served. We were given a small bowl of sorbert as a palate cleanser, but no one seemed to be in charge in the dining room. We finally flagged down someone who told us about the problem, but it seemed that a restaurant in class would have managed the situation more professionally.
The service here was absolutely top-notch. It was my first time here and it certainly will not be my last. We tried out their Vegan poutine!
Great service and good food. They gave us a cake for our daughter’s birthday
I was so looking forward to taking my best friend to the Q for dinner. I’d heard from everyone that the food was delicious, and it was. But the waiter we had was non-professional. He had a sloppy way of speaking, couldn’t remember things, had to ask us to remind him of things and forgot about asking me about wine for dinner when I specifically told him that I wanted some. Also, he looked over my shoulder the whole time I was completing the bill. I expected much much more. Everybody else was delightful; the sous chef, the nice lady that sat us down, and the chef came out to visit. But that waiter was a real turn off.
Fantastic service! Chef stopped by table to check in; everything was fabulous.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner and were quite disappointed with the ambiance and surrounding noise. There were children crying and yelling and the seating had absolutely no privacy, you could hear everyone's conversations, the tables were way too close together.
Over an hour’s wait for a half plate of tepid soup. My partner gave up waiting and left before food arrived. Meanwhile the chef is glad handing his way round some other diners.
Dinner was absolutely marvelous. Went here for date night the other evening and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The service was very friendly and the menu was great, with a few tasty vegetarian options on it. Our steak took a bit longer than usual apparently, though neither my husband or I noticed since we were enjoying conversation. Regardless, the chef brought us out a passionfruit sorbet on the house, to tide us over. Not necessary but very much appreciated!
Overall we had a wonderful time and are looking forward to going back!
Great service. Professional and friendly. Knew about the food well. Comfortable seating and although busy quite quiet.
The food was excellent. We were there for lunch, quick service but not hurried. Food beautifully presented and full of flavor.
We also had a cocktail to start which was also yummy!
Nice setting, but service wasn’t good. Not really that busy so not sure what the problem was. The food was fine, but it took so long to be served. We were at the end of a long day and didn’t feel taken care of at all. We should have skipped the Q and eaten in the bar! The service there is fantastic!
The meal was excellent and memorable, but overall we will remember the helpful, discreet and friendly staff. This applies especially to our waiter. A most memorable evening we both thoroughly enjoyed and finished our holiday in Canada in a special way.
We invited our new neighbors and friends to join us for a great dinner and we’re excited to show them the beautiful venue and surroundings. We were thrilled at the great service, food and decor! We will be back very soon.
Lovely table in a lovely restaurant for a 70th birthday celebration. Terrific business lunch value. Our waitress was a delight!
We waited quite some time for the menu to come. When we ordered, the Waiter then brought bread and butter plates & knife and put it on the wrong side where my husband was sitting. He then brought the overpriced bottle of wine for us to try and the white wine hadn't even been chilled!!! How about that?
When the meal arrived, in a fairly reasonable time, there weren't any salt and pepper shakers on the table t=so we had to wave down the waiter and ask for some. He should have checked all this before we sat down. Th Bill was horrendous - $165-00 for one course with wine and bread! Plus tip!
Q has the best service and food I've had in years! Thank you for reminding me that there are still great places to go!
Great for a fancy lunch!
We live in Victoria and have dined at the Empress periodically for the last 25 years. Based on our last two dinners, the Q has really upped their game. There is a focus on local ingredients. Food is excellent and the service is second to none. The Q is now our favorite restaurant in Victoria. The only issue I have is the live band (loud) in the lounge can make it difficult to have a conversation.
Great dining experience / All food was served spectacularly and exceeding expectations / Service extremely professional and flexible to changes
We thoroughly enjoyed lunch at the Q. Great food and great offering of their 60-minute special. First class experience.
The food and service were amazing. We asked our server for a surprise after-dinner drink, and he brought us some delicious local ice wine! There was live music. The room itself was very beautiful, but we wondered why the restaurant seating had no water view, but the bar did. (We did go back to the bar at a later time in our stay, however.) Overall, the Q was wonderful!
Wonderful restaurant, even though hostess wanted to seat those who just showed up over our Open Table reservation made months in advance! Then she tried to seat is in a corner! We were insistant, as we were celebrating our anniversary, and the best dressed couple in the dining room! Once we were seated, our waiter Andrew made up for the snub and presented us with a wonderful dining experience! Thank you Andrew!
We were pleasantly surprised by the food and the service for a hotel restaurant. Both were wonderful. Our server Will was very pleasant and efficient and made us feel very welcome. The food was also delicious and beautifully presented. The only negatives were that it was loud given the high ceilings and it was very expensive (e.g. $17 for a glass of wine). Overall we would recommend this restaurant to other diners.
Slowest service ever. The waiter was friendly, but it took 30 minutes to get our first drink (to cheers for my wife’s Birthday), and 1.5 hours before food arrived at our table. We had to rush to eat and pay the bill to get home for the babysitter. We are local residents in our 30’s, and will not be returning anytime soon.
Kitchen was overwhelmed took over an hour to get entrees talk to the manager he said they were experiencing unusual delays that night
My family had there dinner 9/7/18. The duck was almost uneatable, we did not see our waiter for over 15 minutes. We had to wait over 20 minutes between courses, it was hot and VERY noisy. We did get a refund for the duck dinner, the halibut and lamb dishes were good. For spending over $300 Canadian for our dinner which include one bottle of wine, no cocktails, it was highly disappointing. Spend your vacation money somewhere else. There is no view, the bar is near by and its music makes conversation almost impossible.
Loud and disappointing. Since the remodel, the bar is right next to the restaurant and when the live music starts, the fine dining experience goes away. The space is loud and you have to nearly shout to hear each other. Just as disappointing, the food was not very good. The heirloom tomato salad had bad tomatoes in it, the burrata was sour. It took 25 minutes to get our cocktails. This is nothing like we remember Q being. It would have been surprising for a mid-level restaurant but when the restaurant passes itself off as special, it's incredibly disappointing. Not worth the money at all.
This is the second time in a row where we’ve sat for almost 10 mins after sitting down waiting for our waiter. The food is overpriced, and our table of 8 sent back two dishes because both diners thought the meal was terrible. The overall dining experience is no where worth the price and poor service.
My steak was so good, it was like butter. In flavour and tenderness. The compressed potatoes were original and inspiring. Steak could’ve used some more Demi glacé, but I really like things saucy. Personal preference. Overall, a meal that will be remembered for many years to come for how fantastic everything was. Thank you for the experience!
Birthday dinner with my mom was just amazing, food was so flavourful and delicious
