Good food but somewhat slow service and very limited menu.
Everything was quite good, both food and service. I had the black rock fish. I asked for it to the rare side (fish is so often overcooked) and it was done perfectly. My wife had the duck and it was also very good. Both had very good accompanying sauces and vegetables. Also had the deviled egg and it was fabulous. The only possible minus was my glass of bubbly came flat, but the waiter brought a fresh one as soon as I pointed at my glass. The music was a bit raucus and loud when we first arrived (we were early), but it was soon toned down to something unoffensive (although for me less noise is always nicer).
This was our second time eating at Revival as we live out of town, but it is such a treat. Absolutely delicious, seasonally creative food.
Food is quite good- we had lots of small plates, shared by four of us, and they were all tasty and creative. We loved the deviled eggs, the meatballs and the arancini. A good selection of drinks, unusual cocktails. The service was friendly, and dishes were brought out at a pace that worked well for us. Though it was fairly noisy, we were against a wall, and were able to hear each other talk. Prices are reasonable, but they add up to a fairly hefty bill. A nice place in downtown Berkeley for a special occasion.
We had stopped coming here about a year ago because the menu was "eclectic" and had gotten expensive for a so - so meal. But last Tuesday didn't have time to go somewhere else in the vicinity of Berkeley Rep and were very pleasantly surprised. The salads were wonderful and choice of entrees was much better. We will come back this season.
Revival is a Berkeley treasure! The brunch menu, which highlights dishes using locally-sourced ingredients, included something appropriate for all tastes and dietary restrictions - no small feat. It was hard to choose! The plates came piping hot and the food beautiful to look at. All of us at our table savored every bite. We will definitely be returning!
I know that all restaurants can have a bad day, so hopefully or experience was not indicative of the norm, but......... The bar tender was really rude, some of our food was brought to the table cold when it should have been hot and our waitress acted really put out when we asked for pepper for the table. Generally, the food was pretty good. But the service was pretty bad.
My wife asked to not make reservations at this restaurant prior to our nights at the Berkeley Rep, due to the fact that she was served a four ounce glass of "asked for House Chard", and charged $16. One of our best times at Revival, except for the enormous expense.
Not a good night. Slow service, undercooked food, noisy atmosphere
Toast was tooth-breaking hard and the service was too slow
We had a great early dinner after theater with 7 friends. Food was good. Service that night was a little spotty - our appetizer did not come out with the others and we sat there while our friends were eating with no food. Other than that, the staff was very accomodating and friendly. Food was good. Casual ambiance.
We three enjoyed our food, the great service, and the relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely eat there again.
Great spot with interestingly healthy menu options. The atmosphere is pretty bohemian and fun. The service seemed a little unprepared for a Saturday night rush but the food was great.
we have eaten at revival many times. food is good, but not exceptional. service is spotty and tonight's service was terrible. we ordered bread, she forgot it. we ordered 3 entrees that were the same, she 'heard' two. when she brought us a share plate, we figured it out and she corrected it. i think it was our last time there. they really do not need our business.....they're busy enough.
We enjoyed Revival. Salads were very good and entrees were good and creative. I would definitely go again when attending something at Berkeley Rep (across the street) or something else in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there otherwise but I was happy with it for a pre-theater dinner.
I was disappointed in the amount of food on the Carrot Hummus plate for $15 and house wine was $8/glass. Also, we had a hard time finding our server so we could get our check and the place wasn't busy.
I've had a number of nice experiences at Revival Bar and Kitchen, but last Friday was not one. We arrived for our 6:15 reservation on time. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees all at the same time. We were going to an 8pm show at the Berkeley Rep. We waited half an hour, until 6:45, for our appetizers, and our entrees didn't arrive until 7:35, not giving us much time to eat before the play.
Not enough menu choices and disappointing food; ribs were bland and uninteresting
The food was great, however, we really enjoyed the service.
I really like this place for a central location that is bright, fun and cool. The food is always great and the service is usually great. This time we had to wait an extremely long time for our food. We were served near closing, well after others who sat after us, with no apology. But usually I love this place.
Buzzy, relaxed atmosphere. Server was a bit too casual, but competent. Wine by glass and beer options were good. Frisée and fig salad interesting, a bit tricky to eat. Vegetarian entree light but delicious. Nice place for dinner with friends.
Our server was friendly, food was fine, but it was disappointing that we waited a very long time for food, then had to rush to finish.
Upscale food... very current .. but still have a great juicy hamburger and tasty French fries.
We got a corner table after a Sunday matinee
so the restaurant wasn’t crowded for at least an hour so it was quiet and conducive for conversation. Excellent service.
Only one vegetarian entree on the menu and it was a baked acorn squash with s little topping. Not good enough.
The food is good, but on a recent Saturday night, the noise was deafening. It didn't help that the music was being played too loud, forcing patrons to raise their voices. The volume level and choice of music was odd, considering that the majority of people in the restaurant were older.
Service was slow, which mostly could be ascribed to the 6:00 hour, with 8:00 theater curtain times nearby. But it took forever to get our drinks -- forever -- and they were not what we ordered, though our server swore he watched them being poured.
This used to be a peaceful restaurant.
Food was delicious. Service amazing. Lively and fun. Will definitely be back.
It's still relatively easy to get an early reservation at Revival if you've forgotten to until the last minute and the Cal homecoming is happening. Good food. Lovely server. VERY loud as it got going. Excellent drinks.
This was my first time to eat at this place. I was looking for some place to eat before I went to the Berkeley Rep Theater for a play. It was Saturday when I went there, so they serve brunch. I was interested with the Fried Chicken Benedict. I liked it because they use biscuit instead of the traditional English muffin. Although I felt like it wasn't enough. Unfortunately, they have a lot of customers but not enough staff. Because of that, it took me a while to finally get my check and pay for it.
I normally love this restaurant but today something was missing. We arrived early for our reservation and although the place was NOT full, they had to still set up a table. We never figured out which of the 2 servers who served us was actually assigned to our table.
We ordered bloody Mary’s but were told they were out (Saturday brunch?) and then our replacement drinks were mis ordered. After an hour, we still had not been served our burgers although 2 groups seated after us were eating.
A server did comp us our drinks, but all in all, dining here today was disappointing. Since this isn’t our first time in, I expected more.
Xcellent food and service on a bus night. Thank you!
This is our go-to spot for date night or a pre-theater dinner. The food is wonderful, and the owner cares about providing amazing food that is ethically sourced. The decor is comfortable and romantic. ..without trying too hard. It is a Berkeley gem.
Pleasant and friendly, not too noisy. Menu is good if not too exciting.
Had a great time with my date and the food was timely, delicious, creative and check back on time and not bothersome. Music level and choice was the kind of background that you only notice when heading to the restroom. I guess our conversation didn't create enough quiet pauses to acknowledge it. Server was professional and made us feel relaxed. Sunday 7th Brunch was overall superb. Thank you Revival Bar and Kitchen.
We ate brunch here on a Saturday around 11:30. Great food and service. Small but well done menu. The staff was on point and answered all of our questions. Bar and bar tender were top notch.
Good food and ambience. Our entree took a little while to come out but it her than that it was excellent!
We met for dinner before a performance at the Greek Theatre at Berkeley, 4 friends. Great service, great food, we shared a couple of the items (the mussels and the beef ribs) , they were happy to offer extra plates, we enjoyed the beer and wine we had (by the glass -- pricier than at home in Montana). A little surprised that bread was a "side" at $4.50 for 4 slices (very good bread, and fine olive oil, so, well, OK!). We were out in plenty of time to walk up to the theater. Will be back!
Had several issues with the service. WE waited about 30 minutes just to get coffee! Had to ask 2 different people where it was. We actually got our food before we got our coffee. Then they neglected to bring french fries with my friend's burger. Apparently they did the same thing to the man at the next table. Had to find someone to let them know. The restaurant wasn't super busy - had a very hard time finding our waitress.
Food is always delicious. Was very noisy. A bit warm in there too. Food took a long time.
Revival was obviously overbooked that evening. They seated us in the back room and it became clear after a while that they had not added staff to support the additional tables. Food was excellent.
Revival is a convenient and excellent pre-theater/movie restaurant in Berkeley. It is very noisy, but that's what reatauranters want. The food is consistently good and appropriately priced. The waitresses are friendly and helpful and the rest of the waitstaff is capable and attentive.
