It was freezing! There was record cold but that’s not an excuse as there was cold air blowing on my legs the whole time and the staff shrugged it off 3 times as a “drafty” house. It meant the food was instantly cold after being brought out. The food was “fine” not really noteworthy or destination worthy as the hype would have you believe. Very disappointing-it might have been slightly more enjoyable if it was cozy and warm as I had anticipated and not in my coat and scarf the whole time. Still overpriced for the quality of food that can be found at many other great food destinations in Maine for less and a more comfortable and pleasant dining ambiance. Would not return again.

The food at Primo is outstanding. We have eaten at Primo a number of times over the last few years and both the menu and food are consistently very creative and well executed. The service however can be hit or miss. This New Year's eve, it was more of a miss. This did not seem to be a consequence of being overly busy, it was not. We have been there when it was much busier. We had reservations, and despite there being empty tables when we arrived, we were directed to wait in the bar until "our" table was ready. We were seated 30 minutes after our reserved time. The wait staff is pleasant, but on this occasion did not meet our expectations for the level of service we have enjoyed there previously and have come to expect for the prices (our bill was over $300.00 [including a 20% tip] for two without dessert or a bottle of wine). Examples of the less than expected level of service included obviously empty glasses placed at the edge of the table not being cleared until we asked them to be cleared after multiple visits to the table by servers/wait staff, no refilling of water glasses by wait staff; we did it ourselves, and food (complementary pre-meal appetizers) being placed on the table by runners without description of what is was. It seems as though the staff is trying, but has not been adequately trained to provide the level of service that should be provided to make this a truly 1st class experience. Again, this seems more a function of who you get than anything else. We have been there previously and had outstanding service. The service was fair, just not what we expect at the prices charged. Despite this, we will return as the food is good enough to overlook the inconsistent quality of service, just not as frequently as we otherwise would. It is unlikely we will return for dinner on New Year's Eve.

Even though I gave it a poor review based on my New Years Eve experience, that was the first time I've been disappointed here, so I don't think it's fair to say I would not recommend it, because I would. I'll go back, but if I have another experience like the latest one, I will stop sending people there. My risotto was way stiffer than even an al dente, the lobster was tasteless and had the texture of something that had been previously frozen. It was so cold in there that I had to leave my coat on, and I was not even sitting near an outside wall. We were there 20 minutes before drinks were offered, and 45 minutes before they arrived. All in all, very, very subpar for Primo.

I had such high hopes for this restaurant as I had heard such great things. We had a reservation and had to wait 20 minutes for our table to be ready. Overall, the food was just okay, none of the bold fantastic flavors I had hoped for, and it is very expensive. If you’re going to charge those prices, you have to deliver each and every time.

A bit of a disappointment this time. On Christmas Eve, we took some family who have heard us rave for years about Primo. Overall, the food preparation wasn't up to its usual level. Could be that we just prefer the vibe in the summer when the farm is up and running. We'll be back.

I was really looking forward to dining at Primo as most people I know highly recommend it. I am thinking that perhaps summer or fall when the grounds are in bloom, might be a better time. The food was good, but not interesting. I thought the chicken livers and oyster appetizers needed more levels of flavor with side sauces. Both were bland. The lobster special was good sitting atop the risotto, but the mixture stuffed into the shell was a reach. The rabbit pasta dish needed more sauce. The end of the season blues? Maybe everybody is ready for the season to end? Besides the lackluster food, the room we were in for a romantic night out was so loud with dinner guests talking from table to table, that we could not hear the waiter or ourselves. I would say the best experiences of the evening were our wonderful waiter, the Prosecco and biting into a tasty lobster claw.

I love going to Primo for special occasions. It is a bit pricy for every day, but every bite is beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. The wait staff is superb: very knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is lovely: old victorian farm house with many cozy corners and beautifully decorated. And, I truly appreciate the organic farm to table ethic and experience.

The entree that Primo is noted for- the Primo Pork Chop was mushy and was covered with fat. For a $48 entree it was very disappointing. The waiter was lovely but he did not want to take it back and replace it with another dish. Similarly, the pasta we ordered was doughy and not hot. As Primo is known for fine dining and we had come in from Washington, DC, we had high expectations only to be surprised and shocked at the overall poor quality of the food. The restaurant and ambiance are beautiful, but that's not what fine dining is all about, is it?

Fois Gras on a gingerbread with cooked apple and chutney - out of this world. Scallops were huge and cooked perfectly, duck and lamb were also wonderful. Love the Zenzero (ginger cosmo). We asked for a banquette instead of a table as we had a 4 year old with us. We thankfully were seated at the requested table.

Overall a very good dining experience. Incredibly fresh salad greens in November was impressive. Our server was top notch and fun which added to the experience. Negatives were my wife's steak being badly overcooked and my duck breast being a bit tough, both of which diminished the experience and had us questioning the value.

We had been interested in Primo for quite sometime and finally made it up to Rockland for a visit this past weekend. Very good wine options and some great local beers as well. Started with roasted oysters and the farmers frisee salad - salad was excellent, oysters were good. The house-raised Primo Pork Chop was phenomenal, so flavorful and cooked perfectly. Seared Ahi Tuna was done perfectly and was amazing, roasted root vegetables were a nice side too. The house made profiteroles filled with gelato were excellent, would definitely try them again. They also brought us a tasting glass of house pressed cider with cream which was quite tasty it left me wanting more. Service was excellent as we were tended to by at least 3 staff members during our visit. Dinner at Primo definitely lived up to the high expectations we had in mind.

Primo was definitely a good special occasion place to try. The restaurant itself is beautiful, located in a huge old house with lots of different rooms. The farm to table, organic produce and meat concept here is excellent. Food is fresh and tasty. Desserts here are a must, the zeppole were amazing. The service was good (not great). The wine list was excellent, lots of different countries and regions. Overall not the best meal I've had in Maine, but definitely worth a try.

We had a lovely anniversary dinner. As per their usual, the staff was amazing, the food was outstanding-on site grown or locally sourced and absolutely delicious. Primo never disappoints. We had skate, octopus, oysters, some of their home raised chicken, and carrots, cauliflower, delicata squash, broccoli and potatoes from the garden. We still managed to squeeze in profiteroles for dessert.

Going to "Primo" was a bucket list trip to experience the work of acclaimed Chef Melissa Kelly. Let me just say that she and her staff knocked it out of the park on every level. We ate at Primo two nights and it was difficult to chose from the menu offerings... I wanted to taste everything! Signature dish of Pork Saltimbocca was stunning and packed with flavor. Foie Gras was a magnificent appetizer that went down perfectly with a glass of prosecco. The special entre of fresh skate tasted like it just came out of the clean and clear Rockland waters. It was so incredibly fresh and the lemony sauce and fall vegetables were cooked to a turn... not hard, not soft, .... just perfect. Farmers salad is a French classic that I could eat everyday. The greens grown at Primo just taste so delicious... you can see it in the color and taste the earthyness. Deserts also were a smash hit with my group. Profiteroles were the bomb and I only wish I could have taken home a suit case of Zeppole. Lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff and Chef Kelly. They were so inviting and made this foodie's travel adventure a most memorable trip. Cannot wait to return!

Worth the drive from, well, anywhere. Farm to table food was exceptional. Creative menu - didn't try everything but I'd like to. Even though restaurant was full, most of the tables are in small rooms so conversation (even with Grandparents) not a problem. Bar was lively - bartenders and waitstaff attentive and helpful.

We first ate here in Nov of 2013 and were absolutely blown away by the level of skill and quality of the entire dining experience, this visit not so much. The meals overall were good, but not knocking our socks off as anticipated, a couple dishes lacked real flavor/salt even. And where as we had never used the online reservations, we thought we would have been seated in the table cloth area as we dressed up but instead were placed in a pub style setting with plastic place mats and we were underwhelmed by the casual dress of the other patrons. Not sure how to request the table cloth seating, it was not an option when booking the reservation. For the cost, the value is too low, despite the intense hands on approach and origins of the ingredients, the dishes them selves lacked the pow of flavor and inventiveness we first experienced.

A very lovely meal! Quiet and cosy atmosphere. We shared a roasted beet salad as an appetizer that was perfect. Fresh greens with house made ricotta and local red and golden beets. My main course was the scallops with black Tuscan rice and roasted cauliflower. It was a delight! Beautiful presentation and done to perfection. My husband had the grilled swordfish with fingerling potatoes grilled eggplant and mixed peppers. He was very pleased.
