   We had a fantastic evening celebrating my birthday at or, The Whale. Jason was our server, we were seated in the wine room. Really delicious food, especially the octopus, and nice wines. Jason recommended a bottle of Jacob's Creek, which was quite enjoyable. I highly recommend!

   I was very impressed with everything we tried. The mussels were a large portion and delicious. We tried several preparations of duck and all were done perfectly. The wait staff was extremely attentive and we were well taken care of all evening. The homemade coconut cream ice cream was fantastic. We would definitely return again or bring visiting friends.

   This was the first time I have been back since the management and menu changed. Service was excellent. We had the Pekin Duck and it was terrific. There should be a greater variety of wines and prices. Only one Chardonnay by the glass on the menu and at $15 a glass that's pretty pricey.

   This is simply a fantastic place to enjoy a meal. The food is fresh, and delicious (they will also filet your fish for you if you order one!). Can't wait to come back.

   First time - really enjoyed the venue. Appetizers and drinks were top notch. Salads and dinners were also very good. Do not let the relationship with a hotel deceive you - this is a very good restaurant

    Made the reservation a week prior. When we arrived table wasn’t ready so we went to the bar. We were finally seated in a wine room because there were no tables. It was very cold since all the wine is stored there and was secluded away from the main dining area. The service was PAINFULLY slow. We waited for drinks for over 20 minutes. The starters were average at best. Food was ok but portions were very small. We intentionally did not order dessert because we wanted to get the hell out of there. Would not go back and not recommend.

    My friend and I came here for a pre-show dinner and enjoyed our experience. We ordered cocktails to start-the On the Gogh has the perfect balance of sweet and sour with the vanilla vodka and citrus. We also enjoyed the parmesan churros-omg they were melt in your mouth good and the dipping sauces were fab. We opted for the short rib and pork chops and ordered a cab sav to pair with our From the Farm menu choices. The portions were quite generous, and the meat was cooked perfectly. My short rib was tender and smothered in this delicious onion glaze-definitely the highlight of the meal. We'd love to come back to try dessert. I had my eye on the shortbread, but we ended up running out of time.

    "or, The Whale" is entirely wonderful! The food and menus are amazing, the wait staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasantly friendly, and the restaurant itself is so beautiful, it was such the nicest evening and experience ever! It is the place that I wish to return to over and over!

    We had a great meal at Or, the Whale! Our appetizers were great and our entrees were superb. I wish our server would have been more knowledgeable and more in-depth with explaining the specials and items on the menu. After we had finished our meal, a server near us blew us away with his explanations of the menu and we were a bit jealous! Overall, we had a great experience though.

    There are better restaurants in the city. The food was ok but portions were very small considering the price. Staff was awesome and very knowledgable, but you should never leave a restaurant hungry (which we did).

    I have a disability and the staff made sure we had a comfortable and accessible table. Our waiter made each item on the menu sound enticing. The chef did not disappoint. Oysters on the half shell we're superb. My husband had the rib eye and I enjoyed the duck breast which was perfectly prepared. We both enjoyed our dainty and delicious desserts. It truly was a special evening.

    When we walked in from the Pittsburgh winter, the warm atmosphere pulled us in to a dining experience unlike any we've had in Pittsburgh before. Our waiter was perfectly poised but wonderfully friendly, even laughing with us when he saw us switch dessert plates. (We loved both, just wanted to make sure we both got to taste all of the wonderful dishes prepared for us.) Flavors were impeccable (although the tartare is a little simple, perhaps to focus more on the local beef), and the freshness of ingredients really shone through. We very rarely eat out or get takeout because it's not worth the money when we could make it better ourselves. or, the Whale is the kind of place we hope to someday cook like, and without a doubt worth the splurge. Get a reservation, take someone you won't mind switching one delicious plate for another with, and stay through dessert. And, if you're like us, take the walk back to Theater Square to catch a show.

    I had really high expectations for this place, but our date night was truly ruined. After waiting for 40 minutes for the medium-well fillet mignon my husband got a piece of meat almost burnt to coals. The server quickly removed the place and didn’t even offer replacement. I ordered grilled octopus and it came burnt and tasted like rubber. We left the restaurant hungry and unhappy.

    Feels like a hotel restaurant, as it is attached to one, with very blah interior. Far too overpriced for what you get in terms of the food and experience. Many better restaurants (food and ambience) for a more reasonable price in Pittsburgh.

    Never again.i wanted to visit and try it because I have heard good reviews. But the ambiance is very dry, noise level high, overpriced for what offers. I ordered a fillet mignon medium well cooked and it came totally burned, it was literally black from one side and dark from the other... they charged us although I said it was not cooked like I asked... very unprofessional, since Th why didn’t even offer something as an apologize, ie a dessert or a gift card. Not recommend at all.

    The food, for the most part was very good and our server was attentive. A couple of thing threw me off however. It was my first time and I guess I expected it to be a nicer place. It looked very casual. Part of the casual feel was the white adidas sneakers the hostess was wearing. I get it that she is walking up and down stairs all evening, but it was not a good first impression. Even black sneakers would have helped. If ambiance isn’t important to you this is a fine place to dine.

    Beef Tartar was amazing, wine recommendation was perfect, all around delicious meal. Only thing I didn't love was being seated so close to other people upstairs while the bottom floor was mostly empty.

    We started with cocktails and a cheese plate. I wasn't crazy about the cocktail selection. Everything felt a bit too creative for my tastes. I selected one anyway because, when in Rome. It was great, but each sip made it sweeter until it wasn't pleasant. The cheese plate was delicious and interesting - the cheeses were comparable to any cheese plate I've had (and I've had many). We ordered steaks for dinner, a filet and a ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly. Their fries were so delicious. We were told they take three days to make. We shared a dessert, but weren't terribly impressed. We will go back again, order wine and skip dessert.

    Very disappointed. Appetizer smeared across top edge of plate and rest of plate was naked. Even adjoining patrons commented on it. Wrong potato preparation on all choices and nuggets very over fried. Bread pudding had no pudding and apples were undercooked. No question about seating and we were placed in upper hall on freezing night. No offer of refills on coffee.
