Without any qualifications some of the best Japanese food in New York. The omakase is, like everywhere else, expensive — also excellent. But the à la carte menu is a bargain. The sirloin is perfect. The crispy duck spring roll will surprise you with every bite. The standard rolls here are as good as it gets. It’s so reasonably priced you might forget it has a Michelin star.

The menu was extremely limited for vegetarians. We left hungry after ordering almost everything on the menu we could that was vegetarian, even if it wasn’t something we necessarily wanted.

Not much that I can say about this place being that everything we wanted to order they were out of. The duck tataki was decent but ended up ordering the grilled hamachi and it was disgusting. It wasn't even hot and I don't think it was even grilled. Took a bite and put my utensils down. Not sure how they got a Michelin star but we were unimpressed. A horrible birthday dinner. Never again.

We went for the $130 sushi dinner course... was very underwhelming. The vegetables to start were bland and not very tasty. There was too much rice on the nigiri compared to other restaurants of the same ranking. The steak appetizer was also overcooked and served with a wasabi like sauce as well as a sweet soy sauce one. Very unappetizing for me and for my girlfriend. Her codfish was good though. Buttery and light. The uni was good but was kinda melting/sweating whereas sushi from lets say yasuda would have visible pieces of uni as opposed to a gelatinous blob of orange. The dessert course was mediocre as we could not tell what the ice cream was meant to taste like by itself. Supposedly its red bean but thats only with the red bean sauce topping could we taste that flavor. The ice cream texture was also very coarse and icy... not creamy at all. You would expect a michelin star rated restaurant to impress, but this one is the worst one I’ve experienced. The waitstaff was quite friendly though they seemed excessively attentive and kept checking to see if we were done with our food every couple minutes.

Nothing was specifically not good about this restaurant, but nothing specifically was good, either. If it didn’t have a Michelin star, I wouldn’t have thought too much about it one way or another, but I simply can’t understand how the achieved this milestone.

The sushi comes from the Michelin starred restaurant that shares a kitchen with Suzuki. Maybe it's just the nature of sushi (how much can you do to it?) or too high of expectations by us, but nothing jumped out like other Michelin star experiences. The sushi was fresh and delicious, but we've had similarly great sushi at a variety of other places. As for the other food, the lotus chip appetizer was great and the edamame dumplings was okay. The grilled chicken shio-koji was essentially inedible - fatty and undercooked. We noted it to the waiter, but he took no steps in reducing our check or providing a gratis replacement.

It does not deserve the Michelin star. The food doesn’t worth the price you pay for. Neither the raw material nor the elaboration of the dishes are remarkable. We will not come back again. The only good thing is the staff; they are nice.

Service was very disjointed- the drinks were slow to arrive (20 mins for sake?!) and the food timing was way off- some people received their main course 30 minutes after others. The food was good (not spectacular) but hard to recommend with the overall experience we had. I'll be charitable and suggest it was an off night for them- they seemed short staffed in both the front and back of the house.

I kept trying to like this venue throughout our meal however I was met with disappointment as most every turn. It was almost empty on a Saturday which gave me pause, and the few people that were there, were obnoxiously loud. The menu itself is pretty standard, the duck appetizer was chewy, tho the sauce was nice. The soft shell crap was very fishy. The sushi was forgettable and they charge $50 for hot sake? Crazy. It wasn’t even remarkable. Our server was nice and accommodating but wouldn’t say he was all that attentive. It’s not authentic Japanese, it’s rather bleak on the inside and given their prices nothing about this place makes sense. At least the plates they use were nice.

I ordered homemade tofu and sashimi & sushi set during lunch. I made a reservation for 11:30am but the door of the building didn't open until 11:35am and I could see the person from the restaurant setting up bento boxes for sale inside while I waited. The homemade tofu was supposed to come with three different salts. When it arrived, they only had two and one of them (wasabi salt) has hardened inside and wouldn't come out of the holes. When I asked the server, she asked me to shake it before I use. I had already tried. The other server brought it back and seemingly crashed as opposed to getting new salts (the cap of the salt container was not properly shut). When I inquired about the missing salt that never arrived. Another staff told me that they ran out. They didn't explain this when I placed the order. She somehow managed to find a container with very little amount of salt left and brought it over to me. The quality of the food was okay but definitely not worth what I paid.
