This restaurant does not deserve its current ratings here. The food was quite average. Perhaps it's in comparison to other Big Bear eateries that this gets gourmet ratings but it is average hotel fare at best. They have a big wine list. The wait staff was entirely composed of 17-22 year olds, many of whom looked lost. Of the 4 different cocktails we tried, 2 were good, 2 were lacking character. Would not return.

It is unfortunate the Black Kat changed the menu. We had eaten there several times when the restuarant first opened and the meals memorable. Not so much any more. Darn.

Poor service and management made this a bad experience. Food was decent but certainly restaurant charged prices for an upscale place. Wine list is good and nicely priced. Wine flights were below par. In the end a distracted and disorganized server completely overshadowed any good features. No bread was offered and another server halfway through the meal recognized it. No one asked about allergies while pretending to be a good restaurant. In the end Halibut was cooked on the same grill as shellfish. I had an allergic reaction but there was little awareness or recognition of it. No one seemed to be managing the place and we had to deal with our server who certainly didn’t have much interest in it

Service was terrible, server didn’t know anything about the food. She was nice enough, but far from knowledgeable. Another employee kept wanting to clear our plates, so we finally handed them to her with mouths full of food and forks in our hands. That was a bit annoying. Wine list is way overrated and WAY overpriced. It definitely seems like a “wannabe” restaurant. Everything is totally overrated. Food was actually good, but that was the only positive about our experience. Server said they didn’t have potatoes, but somehow my scallops came out with potatoes on the plate. Confused me even more. Glad I didn’t pay the $46 for the venison that I really wanted to try. I would have ordered it if our server knew how it was prepared and what it came with. Everything about this place other than how the food tasted, was annoying and a complete letdown.

The food was delicious and the wine selection was impeccable. Glad we made a reservation because it was the busiest ski day of the year and there were many angry people getting turned away by the hostesses.

The hostess was inexperienced and had the complete opposite of my table preference available which are pretty clear on my reservations. Overall the food was excellent from the appetizers to the lava cake. Some staff were a bit pushy about clearing plates and drink glasses for the bar which hopefully improve with experience

We were sadly disappointed. We’ve been here several times for appetizers and wine so thought we’d try it for dinner. I had the scallops which were just good. My husband started with the rib eye which was way over cooked from how he ordered it and tough. He tried the Grouper instead. The part that was actually cooked was good but most of it was RAW. The fingerling potatoes on all dishes were undercooked. Mine had a piece of plastic wrap on one. ?? The only pleasant thing was our waitress. We filled out the”Review” card that came with our bill. We will see if the owner - who owns several restaurants/ bars in the Village - actually answers. My starving husband, after paying $150-which did include a bottle of wine, thank goodness since he needed something to do while I finished my dinner and he waited - needed to go home and eat! Sad!

The food and staff are amazing. Has to be one of the best selections of wine you will ever find! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing dinner and even better wine!
