This was a brunch with old friends who we haven’t seen in a long while. I wanted the food, atmosphere, and service to be very good but it was very disappointing! The room with the fireplace was full so we were seated in another room which had no charm. The food was cold, heavy and not tasty. The meat was dry, the grilled vegetables were hard, cold and not tasty. The coffee was cold. The French toast was hard and heavy. The food did not look appetizing! The only good thing was the omelette station because I told the chef exactly what ingredients I wanted and how long to cook it so it was hard not to do that well. I’m sorry to give such a bad review but the owner should know so he/she can do something to improve all aspects of this restaurant!!!!
Great Brunch! There is a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items
The food / menu was not horrible, but not worth a return trip. The service was horrible. The table was wobbly: the server argued that it wasn't. An order was incorrect: the server argued that it wasn't. A drink was ordered and delivered after a long wait; then the entree order was taken, delivered immediately, no time in between drinks and dinner. I don't need to pay for insults or poor service.
We were seated immediately. Great table with lots of space. The service was very good. My martinis were perfect. The food was fantastic. The Fall Creme Brûlée was amazing.
Having dined at the Columbus Inn for many years, we were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food that we ordered. My guest ordered a steak cooked rare and it was medium well when cut into, burnt on the outside as well as the side vegetables and requested that another steak be prepared. The waiter cut into another portion (slightly thicker) of the steak and it was still medium well. Reluctantly another steak was prepared with relatively the same results.
My scallops also were burnt on the outside as well as my vegetables. While we waited for the second steak to arrive I had asked the waiter to place my scallops under a warmer and he was distracted and took 10 minutes to come back and take my dinner to stay warm which by that time was cold.
The waiter did comp me with a free drink but for a Weds nite, it was not that busy and the kitchen seemed to have no pride in what was prepared and delivered.
This is the first time in all the years of dining at the Columbus Inn that I have ever been as disappointed as well was my guest. Their prices are quite high and expected a much better experience.
We loved our dinner at your Inn! Great food and great service! We loved all the fall decorations! Great ambience!
Recently had lunch and enjoyed it a bunch. Salads were good, Caesar and Tuna and nothing was left on the plate. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Well done.
The appetizers were great, we had the calamari, pierogis and the tuna roll. Our entrees included surf & turf and short ribs all very good. The filet was cooked perfectly but could have been seasoned a little better. Very good crab cakes with a lemon dressing that was delicious. The short ribs were cooked perfectly also and very tasty. We all had a gelato dessert which were good too.
We’ve heard great things about this place, so we decided to try for ourselves - we were not disappointed! Very good food, we ordered the 3 course special, everything came out great!
I ordered the cowboy pork chop Saturday and it was okay. I loved the way that you used to serve it. This time it was grilled and had too many black grill marks on the chop. Please serve it the way you had in the past. That was awesome.
We always have a wonderful time here. The wine discounts and happy-hour specials can't be beat.
Expect lively bar acitivity. If you're unable to dine on the patio, you should expect the volume to be high.
Everything was great - my dish was a bit sweet for what I thought should be more savory - but very good!!!
We've dined at Columbus Inn many times and always have a good time and enjoy our meals. The scallop dish and bronzino special were very good. Good wine list with several price points. Excellent cocktails. Apple sorbet was a surprise :). It was very busy and Francis provided attentive service. We'll keep returning.
Brunch was delicious, included a ton of variety and was reasonably priced. We will be back for sure.
The drink I ordered was an Old Fashioned. What I received was a watered down, cherry juiced, club soda drenched barely there bourbon cocktail. Our Baked Brie appetizer was so small and didn't come with any crackers or bread to spread it on. The entrees were good, but when plates were cleared, one of us asked for the leftovers to be boxed and then they never came back. The servers continued to try and clear away dishes we weren't finished with, and yet didn't remove any of the glasses we were finished with. Overall it was a mixed-bag of an evening.
Appetizers-grilled octopus and pumpkin gnocchi were an enjoyable start. Entrees of pan seared scallops and crab cakes were delicious. Service was outstanding. Put the Columbus Inn in your restaurant rotation.
We had a very nice dinner and were pleased with both the food and service
Order of steak was undercooked. Asked for redo, which took forever. Meat was actually tough.
Columbus Inn just keeps getting better and has come back to the standards it held in yesteryears but now with a modern twist.
Absolutely amazing meal, can’t wait to have another excuse to dine there!
Sadly, very disappointing meal. Table for 4 outside was great, beautiful evening weather. Waitress was disinterested and appeared disturbed when we lingered (20 minutes) over our drinks b/f ordering.
Ordered several apps, then Happy Hour menu and 1 of us had a fillet ($30). Normally we do coffee and dessert but all agreed, this wasn't worth it, let's leave.
Food was terrible. Wings were small and burnt. Brie came without crackers or bread to spread? Pizza was like ketchup and weak cheese on a frozen crust. Happy Hour Fish Tacos were mini but ok, nothing great. That fillet was good but the veggies around it passed away the previous week. Having a HH menu sounds like such a deal, except who wants to pay $3 or $6 or $9 for not so very happy food...that's neither happy, tasty, nor a bargain.
Bottom line: C Inn was bad years ago, then took a very positive turn over the past 2 years. in fact, we took friends and even a large family group there several times. Hadn't been there since last March and convinced my wife to go again. This visit was so bad my wife said, the old ways are back...forget C Inn. Back to Buckleys we go!!! That's too bad, b/c I was really happy the previous visits. Even my Stella came without the least suggestion of a freshly poured head. (sigh).
We left a nice tip for the waitress b/c that's what we do, but someone needs to do a little customer service training for her...never let the customers see you would rather be anywhere but working. As for the chef, well, she or he was apparently off for the Wednesday evening service.
Sorry to be so direct...I hope it helps.
Wonderful experience for the second time...can't be beat
Great experience! All of our food was excellent! We will be back.
Francis was our server and did a great job. Thank you.
Love it here, next time we will sit in main dining room as tavern area gets very loud!
Great Brunch! If you like breakfast food sweet, then go for the sweet waffles!
The brunch buffet was very impressive and the food was great. The drinks were also good. Our server was nice but there were some comments we didn’t appreciate. We were there for a bachelorette which was clear from our shirts and the server did not acknowledge this at all. There was also comments regarding our phones on the table, which was not appreciated because that should be our decision. Our server should not tell us to put our phones away. Otherwise, our server was friendly but would appreciate more personalization.
We have now been here three times for the Sunday brunch and each time has been amazing. Our server this time must have had a long night as she was not on top of her game this morning, but was still very friendly and polite. The food was also delicious, and the price is very reasonable. We love being able to just spend quality time at the table while enjoying our time. The management does a great job of scheduling properly so guests can just hang out and not feel pressured to eat and leave.
Fantastic Sunday Brunch. Food was excellent and choices were abundant. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
This was our first time at the current edition of the Columbus Inn. The building and grounds are well maintained, the food and service were very good. Our waitress was the right balance of attentive but unobtrusive. I would recommend you try the CI.
Very disappointing expect. Usually CI is great! Service was very, very slow. Manager stopped by and apologized but didn’t make amends. Ribeye was cold and tough.
Noah was a great waiter! Food was good! But, room was noisy and hard to talk to my date across table! Don’t think you need to have a TV in dining room. Also didn’t like where we were seated. It was a date night but was next to the WINE bar and a loud party of four!
The Columbus Inn is a class act. We often go to the bar which can be pretty busy and crowded; but they make a good drink. The food is always consistent. This Sunday we went to the Buffet Brunch and it was really good. In addition to the regular breakfast foods, there was an awesome raw bar. A Chef station for custom omelets, roast Prime Rib and Roast Turkey. We came a bit late so they were out of Prime Rib.... but there were so many other things it was not a problem.
Also noticed there were items for the munchkins like chicken and mac and cheese.
Good Job Columbus Inn!
Longtime local favorite...highly recommend. Great bar area and dining room is great for special occasions.
I took advantage of the Brandywine Valley Restaurant week specials to try the Columbus Inn. It had been years since I had a meal there, so this was the perfect time to try again. I enjoyed a lunch of Caesar salad and salmon with roasted potatoes and corn. I would have preferred the salad to be crisper, but it had the right amount of dressing. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium as requested and the vegetables were crisp and tender. I will definitely go back to the Columbus Inn.
Restaurant week menu was excellent, portions were generous. The filet and shrimp dinner was updated with Japanese flavors. Service was dry good. Loved the desserts.
We had reservations at 6;45 and it took us over 2 hours for dinner.
Still one of our favorites. Our date night coincided with Restaurant Week which was perfect. Delicious meals served impeccably. We will be back soon.
First brunch of the season was absolutely amazing!!
Food was fantastic! Espresso martini was incredible!! Service was great! Will 100% be back for more :)
We love going to Columbus Inn. Our waitress Kelly is the best! She made recommendations and the good was fabulous.
Everything about the Columbus Inn is 5 stars!!! Atmosphere, food & service are always excellent - Our server, Amelia, was fantastic - totally attentive and professional.
