Went here for a final dinner with a friend before he left the country. Both my cassoulet and his sausage plate were outstanding — seriously, ridiculously good French / German food — and our drinks (from the bottled beer / cider menu) were great, as well. Good bread to start the meal, and yummy French fries as a share side. Dessert was just as good as the meal. Service was friendly, warm, and un-pushy to boot.
My only complaint is about the atmosphere — not the figurative “atmosphere” about which we read so much, but the literal, physical atmosphere: we were seated right next to the door, and it was cold at our table! Seems they’ve tried to squeeze one extra small table into a space I would expect to see marked off for people waiting for the host upon entry, which means that in the winter, that table is chilly. I suppose the cold just made us want the good, hearty food even more, though.
Oberall, definitely recommended!
FOOD - yummy -- great menu!
PARKING ---- not good -- uber please!
BATHROOM - not fresh -- read my details
MUSIC --- great
SEATING -- OK
I loved the yummy arugula salad with my awesome burger! It was just too yummy...the dressing was ....not sure but maybe cherry balsamic? The donuts and our dessert on the house were awesome too!! Now, the seating part I was not too happy about it because we were like in an aisle seating area as soon as you walk into the restaurant; you go left. And the huge windows or glass were right behind me. It was one of the coldest days so my back was really cold all throughout the entire brunch. Plus, the aisle seating made it hard to walk through and get up.
The bathroom part was the hilarious and shocked me! First, you had to walk all the way downstairs to use it BUT the crazy part was when I was inside the bathroom and while washing my hands; I saw a guy looking up at me who was also washing his hands across from me! For a moment, I thought ok! Did I just use the Men bathroom or what!! Then, it took me a few minutes to realize that the area was communal for washing hands only separated by a lines of faucets. The smell in the bathroom was honestly very unclean or just not fresh. Please, warn your guests that the layout is extremely different and you might be staring at a guy while washing your hands!
Anyway.....other than that, the food was delicious and we all enjoyed ourselves. AND, I absolutely loved the music --- loved the songs!
I love beef bourguignon, but in 6-7 tries, I have never quite ordered it because something else just could not be passed. Just some of the tastiest food in the region. The wine list is great — creative and unusual. The beer list is short, but good, and it has a British ale in nitro which is not to be missed.
Service is very good. I ask for Jimmy or Ranya.
The noise can be tough on certain days, but usually it is fine. Just depends.
I liked the low lighting and ambiance. It was a bit difficult to have a conversation at first around 7:30, but then the places cleared up in about an hour and the noise level improved. The waitress was pretty well attentive and checked up on us frequently.
Lyon Hall offers diners a creative menu, sizable portions, and delicious cocktails. It's a great spot to celebrate a special occasion or just grab a quick drink and/or meal in a neighborhood restaurant. On warm nights, ample outdoor dining is available too.
The food and service are consistently very good and i appreciate the excellent cappuccino.
Location wise it’s a good place to meet with our son who lives in DC. Also close to the metro if we dont want to drive.
We had a good meal. The service was excellent and the setting nice. The manager came around checking up on things which was nice. There was good music being played. I would definitely come back and recommend it to friends.
The food was delicious, but unfortunately they sat us upstairs where a large group was also dining. The noise level made conversation difficult.
My duck cassoulet was excellent! Great recommendation by the bartender.
I wanted to give this restaurant a try based on the reviews. Having tried it, I think it is a bit overrated. I was disappointed with my escargot. The extra crunchiness was different for me in this dish and it did marry well well with the tender escargot meat. The french onion did not have as much depth as I would like. My husband enjoyed his hanger steak though and it was the highlight of our meal.
The wild mushroom & bacon omelette that my wife ordered had no bacon. Our waiter offered to bring a side order of bacon, but she declined.
I always go here for breakfast and a good read on the weekends. Staff is very friendly, food is good and I never feel rushed out.
Great ambiance, and everyone that helped us throughout the evening was very pleasant to interact with. The food was simply delicious, portions were reasonable, and the service overall fantastic! Not to mention their selection of beers was off the hook! Will definitely be returning here for more!
Food was a big disappointment because the menu looks great. Out of our party of 4, no one liked their food. Over cooked burgers and gnocchi was bland. Tough giving the price. That being said, great/friendly service and beer list.
The service was horrible and when we finally got our food -- after not receiving the basket of bread we asked for and saw on other people's tables -- it was cold. The French fries were almost unedible and the steak was fatty. Very disappointing for the amount of money we paid.
The donuts were amazing, and I was impressed by the flavor combination and quality. The Maine lobster was flavorless, and I was expecting much more from brunch.
The latte wasn’t even good. Overall, disappointing but I’ll try anything twice.
Great food, awesome beer list! Highly recommend the Steak Frites!
Pleasant but upstairs hot and the acoustics made it hard to hear my companions as there was a large party that was uproarious
When in town, Lyon Hall is my go-to place. This time, I ordered the pork schnitzel signature dish and glass of Gruner Vertliner. It’s a nice dish with lingonberry garnish and some arugula and frisée salad that complements the pork and red potatoes. At other times, I enjoy two small plates—beet salad and sautéed scallops—again with the same white wine. I always feel welcome dining alone and service is nice.
Fantastic food, drinks, and service. Will definitely be back!
Service can be a little spotty but overall a reliable place if you’re looking for French cuisine without the stuffiness that is usually associated with it. I’ve always enjoyed my food here, however as I mentioned in the beginning service can range quite a bit. I have had wonderful attentive service but I have always had horrific service where I don’t even feel as if I have a dedicated server and random people just occasionally stop by if I wave them down. Overall it’s definitely worth a try!
We love Lyon Hall! The staff and the servers made tonight exceptionally special for my friend’s big milestone birthday! Thank you!
Food was good, best part was the bread. Great ambiance, wonderful wine and beer selection. Dessert was disappointing. Server was nice but not very good.
Restaurant was casual, food and service were both great. We went for brunch, and the menu had a good selection. They provide a great list of unique and classic cocktails as well- looking forward to another visit. Overall, very satisfying.
The food service was very scattered and delayed and the staff was not apologetic and did not comp. there was nearly a 35 minute difference between the first person and last person receiving their food. Food was also cold when received.
Worst experience ever. Awful service, steak not prepared as asked, poor response to everything ... will never go back!
I come here often and am never disappointed in the food. The service on this trip wasn't the best I ever had, but certainly not terrible.
Everything was really good. Did nothing to help us celebrate our anniversary which was very disappointing. :(
Came to Lyon Hall for brunch before an event. We made reservations for 11:45am and the place wasn't too crowded. I can't remember our servers name but she was friendly. I had issues with dirty coffee mug and water cup. Both times, she took the dirty cup away and came back out with the drink already filled...that was quite disturbing as I couldn't inspect the cleanliness of the new cup...or if she perhaps just wiped away the dirt and filled the cup. Better training with that aspect is needed. The food was good. Best dish was the trout. The french toast was dry and the smoked salmon dish was bland. I would give this place another try and choose some different dishes. The table next to us said it was the best steak and eggs ever.
Lyon Hall continues to be our favorite place to dine in the DC area.
Sunday brunch for 14 - staff was so great & accommodating. Delicious coffee, tea & awesome food. Our party ages ranged from 4 months to 70 years - everyone was well taken care of & had a wonderful time.
Went for Anniversary dinner, were originally going to be seated in middle of dining room, but hostess saw an empty table away from folks and led us there. Glass of champagne complementary for our anniversary. Food was excellent as was beer. Will definitely return and would recommend.
We love this place and make it a must stop when in town. The food is very nice and service is friendly. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed. We enjoy the patio and the bar. The rainbow trout is well done. Don’t miss it or the beet salad. Merci Lyon Hall, for these 2
Love the food and service at Lyon Hall. The music is a bit loud for my tastes, but that's true at almost every restaurant I go to these days.
Apps were great, main course was a little over cooked.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding reception here in 2016. We were so taken care of by Gillian and the staff. The food & drinks were amazing! They accommodated our filipino heritage by making special filipino dishes that were amazing! My husband and I had so much fun celebrating our wedding. We were so impressed that we celebrated his milestone birthday in 2017 and reserved the room upstairs. Once again, they exceeded our expectations with food, drink and service. We still come to Lyon Hall for dinner every now and then, and consistently each time, our meals are delicious and service fantastic. We just love this place!
Came for restaurant week (same menu). Huge portions! The apps were amazing (tried the smoked salmon and doughnuts). Tried the croque madame (delicious) and quiche (just okay) for entrees and a couple of desserts. If I went again I would maybe just get apps since they were so big & tasty.
We visited during Restaurant Week and I'm glad we made a last-minute reservation beforehand because this place was PACKED! And for good reason! Our group of 4 was sat at a cozy table in the main room; the ambiance was just right for a nice Friday dinner, not too loud but still bustling. The menu was delicious and generous portions for most dishes even though I know some restaurants like to skimp on the options during Restaurant Week. The steak tartar was a great representation of the classic dish and the mussels were plump and cooked just right. My main was the braised pork shank and it was massive! My husband ate half of it and I was still stuffed. Great accompaniments for all the entrees, which I find is more rare these days. Typically you just get the meat and then have to supplement with additional sides, but all the dishes on the menu were well thought-out and paired with other flavors very well (we all tried each others' dishes haha). Our server was a little slow, but he was really busy so it wasn't a big deal. He was very courteous and gave great recommendations to make up for it. Cocktail list was inventive but not overwhelming, good choices for all drink palettes; also good wine by the glass choices. Will come back!
Great food and drinks
I hadn’t been to Lyon Hall since they got a new chef—he is fantastic! The menu is excellent and everything we ordered was outstanding. Kudos to Lyon Hall for letting people order off the regular menu for restaurant week. We will definitely be back, if only to have the ceviche and the croque monsiuer again!
