We have exciting news at Eugene! Restaurant Eugene will close its 15-year-old location for a brief renovation and reopen in the fall as Eugene and Elizabeth's. Eugene and Elizabeth's will continue Restaurant Eugene's tradition of highlighting the best of Atlanta ingredients and purveyors, but will feature an approachable a la carte menu from James Beard Award-winning chef Linton Hopkins. The Hopkins hope the changes to the restaurant will celebrate their Atlantan roots and local community. Restaurant Eugene welcomes diners to savor an ever-changing menu that highlights Georgia's purest, locally grown produce and naturally raised meats. Each detail-from the hearth-baked bread to the pickled peaches to the charcuterie- is made in-house. Indulge in a bottle from the meticulously selected wine list or join us at the bar for a libation from our nationally recognized cocktail menu. August 18th is the last night to join us as Restaurant Eugene.

Fabulous food with warm and hospitable service. Loved the tasting menu with wine pairings. The wine elections were amazing. The whole staff is personable and accommodating and goes the extra mile to make any experience there a special one.

The tasting menu was very, very good. I would highly recommend it. However, we were a party of three and were all rather disappointed in dessert. The staff tried very hard when they realized that we did not really enjoy our dessert and actually had the kitchen make us something else from scratch. We really appreciated their efforts, however, on this night dessert was not their strong suit. Will give them another try in the future.

Restaurant Eugene is, by far, our favorite dining spot in Atlanta and we will be sad to see its chapter come to an end this month. With each visit to this culinary Eden, we are greeted by staff who’ve remembered us and our preferences, and provide services that are second to none. Jason, the Service Manager, is always a joy to see and speak to, so be sure to say hello. In all of our dining experiences at Restaurant Eugene, we have only ever had the tasting menu. It is the perfect way to sample the creativity of Chef James and his team of experts, and you will be met with something new each time. August 18th, their last day, is coming up and I know we will be back again soon for our final farewells to this amazing place. I urge you to come try it if you haven’t, and to come again if it’s been some time since your last visit. They will be back with a more casual flare once returned, and I have no doubt they will be incredible, but RE will still be missed. ♥️

As it has been for many years, Restaurant Eugene is the absolute best fine dining restaurant in the Atlanta Area. The food and service were superb. Unfortunately, Linton Hopkins has chosen to close and rebrand the restaurant as of August 18th COB. It seems that the art of fine dining is quickly becoming an undesired quality that is rarely demanded by the dining public. It is sad. But, I am sure that whatever the rebranded establishment is - it will be an excellent endeavor. So long, to a dear friend.

My husband ordered The sunday supper fried chicken which was good. I decided to order the vegetable platter which i think is an entree. It had roasted beets, okra, chargrilled onions, mushrooms, pineapples, corn, trumpet squash and roasted tomatoes. Many of my favorites. The platter was served in a saute pan that was the size of a flat salad plate. $32. Most of the vegetables were warm but several were not. The squash / tomato combination was not pleasant. I didn’t have the energy to ask for an alternative. Fortunately my husband took pity on me and gave me a piece of chicken. The cornbread and pimento cheese macaroons were excellent. Our waiter was a nice guy but he was very casual in his approach and asked us what our names were. He told us this evening was all about us. He forgot about us after we completed our entrees. We have celebrated many occasions at Eugene’s including cookbook author dinners and new year’s eve. But had stopped going because the food quality was not on par with the price.Hopefully when they move to the new format, the value and service will improve.

Restaurant Eugene is undoubtably the best restaurant in the Atlanta area. Jason Pinnock served as our host and took care of our every need. Would highly recommend everyone to visit before it closes on August 17 for remodeling. Unfortunately they will be going to a more casual environment in an apparent attempt to increase patronage. However with a more casual setting, but still the same quality of food, I think they will need to lower prices to attract a larger clientele.

Eugene met all our expectations and more! It is the perfect venue for a special occasion. When you book, make sure the concierge knows what you are celebrating. The Eugene Tasting Experience + the wine pairing was out of this world. Amazing food and stellar service: the sommelier, all the waiters, the host, Ivan, our waiter, who was fantastic! and everyone was so kind and attentive. They seem to enjoy working there, and I love all the diversity I saw amongst the staff. I highly recommend this place. I couldn't stop talking about it next day at work, and now two colleagues have booked for an anniversary and a b-day celebration. I am sure they will have a blast! Thanks to the Eugene Team. It was a memorable time!

What a wonderful evening. The staff was so professional, yet personable....we especially loved the “bread man,” but all of them were great. In spite of the small portion, the salad with tender fennel threads was over the top good, as was the crab galette. Duck and roasted vegetables entrees were delicious, but the bland trout needed something to give it a bit more character. Dessert with the peach half, topped with killer peach pit ice cream was perfect to share for our last course. We certainly appreciated the servers waiting to clear the table until the last person in our party had finished eating. Good manners prevail at Restaurant Eugene and we tipped accordingly!

Updated Review: 8/14/19: After my last negative review, I was contacted directly by management and was asked to give them an opportunity to make things right. As expected, our experience was much better this time around. Though, we did still have to send back one underwhelming cocktail and found the duck to be so salty that we squeeze a lime to help cut the salt... thankfully that worked. We opted for a la carte instead of the tasting menu and sampled a variety of their cocktails. The tartare was quite amazing and I'm always a sucker for expertly prepared red snapper. Hopefully they keep some of the cocktails at their new concept and we'll give Eugene & Elizabeth's a try once it opens. Original Review: 7/16/19: Good thing this place is closing. Our reservation was for our Anniversary later on Sunday, so being stuck in the middle of the restaurant next to a table of loud college kids was a slap in the face. There were plenty of open tables, but instead we were in the center of foot traffic being bumped by staff repeatedly. At least they apologized, but there’s no reason it should have happened. The food ranged from impressive to mediocre, with the pairings redeeming some of the flavor experiences. It feels like they’re phoning it in since they close in a month. I wish we had tried something new rather than going back one last time before they closed.

One of the most disappointing experiences at a fine dining restaurant. The service was strangely awkward: so many different servers, yet unable to take care of simple tasks, like bringing out the menus, or presenting correctly what they are serving (chanterelles versus shiitake mushrooms?), or simply failing to clear empty glasses off the tables (at one point there were 8 glasses on a table with 4 unused, and a couple at the next table started unloading theirs to an adjacent table to make room). But the most disappointing part really was the food. For $95 for a tasting menu – the food was bland, unimaginative and even unpalatable. The exceptionally long intervals between courses stretched out this experience to three excruciating hours, which we spent hungrily waiting and watching bizarre tablecloth ironing ceremonies on tables next to us. Excessive attention to table cloth in contrast to lack of basic timing consideration felt absurd. After five very uninspiring bite-size appetizers, two tiny entrées and two desserts, we actually left hungry, but not craving for anything more from Eugene.

As anyone who has reached the green on two and then three putted knows, there are days when your game is simply off. I reviewed Restaurant Eugene two weeks ago and described such a day. At the invitation of management, we returned to Restaurant Eugene last night. The experience this evening was on par with other visits and fully met our expectations. The restaurant was not overcrowded and the staff was not hectically attempting to compensate for over booking and understaffing—the cause, I have been assured, of the earlier disappointing dinner. The pheasant was deliciously prepared, as was the grouper. And this time the rice and crab soup brimmed with flavor. The sommelier did her excellent job of wine pairing, again. In short, this was the restaurant that we had come to love over the years. The restaurant will change this fall. I trust that the new iteration will continue in this tradition and that the three-putt bogey of two weeks ago will be simply a bad day not destined to be repeated.

Best fried chicken! Our nieces were visiting from South Florida and we wanted to give them a Southern experience. We were excited to find out the Eugene had just started Sunday Night Fried Chicken Dinner. The fried chicken was the best we have ever had, moist and crispy with just the right amount of batter and spices. The corn tomato succotash, again, the best with a fresh citrusy, celeriac flavor. And make sure to ask for seconds on the corn muffins. Also, save room for desserts. As one of our niece's stated, "I can do this every Sunday." We plan to return!

We were thrilled to get a reservation at Restaurant Eugene's Sunday Supper, highlighting fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn and tomato salad, and cornbread. Absolutely the BEST fried chicken and cornbread I have ever eaten. The ambiance, service, and value were exceptional, too. Other than the strange service and the mediocre food it was a good restaurant. When we were seated we ordered two drinks (G&T and a Martini). Five minutes later someone else asked us to clarify our drink order. Five minutes after that a third person asked us to clarify our drink order. Finally, after twenty total minutes our drinks arrived. The highlights of our meal were the amuse bouche: a pepper-pimento cheese savory macaron, and the side dish of dried-fried molasses peanut crusted eggplant. Both of these were fabulous. All of the entrees were forgettable. The sommelier did an excellent job of recommending good wines that pared well with each course. We were especially disappointed because we had a superb meal there several years earlier. My wife joked as we departed that they must have the real kitchen staff tied-up in the back.

Loved the restaurant. The Maitre D was amazing, funny, welcoming and attentive. The staff was attentive. The wine selection was great. As part of the tasting menu I found two items to be close to terrible: The beats ice cream was a fail, and so was the fennel mignonette oysters - There was no tasting the oysters, it was all fennel. Everything else on the tasting menu was phenomenal.
