Gio's Ristorante and Bar
This is a nice restaurant with very good food and pleasant servers. Drinks are good. I had lobster pasta and it was well prepared in a reasonable portion.
We had a reservation for 12:30 - 5 people. It was at least 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged we were there. Took at least another 10-15 minutes before we were given a menu, then another 10 minutes before our order was taken, another 10 minutes before water or tea was brought. No salads...the waiter said the salads would be coming soon but he had no idea how long it would be for the entrees. At that time we walked out. Only two servers working.
I was literally the only one in the restaurant which should have been a signal to leave. However I stayed. The food tasted old like it had been warmed up in the microwave which was probably the case since nobody else was eating there. The bar serve was friendly. The food made me sick later in the evening. I’m not sure joe this place makes it. Definitely would not recommend.
I hate to give a negative review but I can't say much good about this place. We had to hunt someone down to seat us... no big deal in and of itself. But, the house made wine was not good. The server did graciously offer and provide a different wine. The 2 of us that ordered Italian food (at the Italian restaurant) were very disappointed in the quality. It was dry, the meat was flavorless and the sauce was more like canned than fresh. However, the 2 who ordered non Italian food were satisfied with their meals. The service was mediocre - a bit slow. All in all not a satisfying experience.
Gio's was busy and seemed to be short staffed for a Saturday night. Food was okay. Didn't seem fresh. It was an okay spot for our group that was there for the week to close it out. But, they need to up their game and cook food properly and get some fresh ice cream.
In town for a concert. Stayed at a nearby hotel, so wanted something walking distance. The food was excellent, the server was personable and pleasant, although rather busy as one of two working on a Saturday night. Luckily, we made a reservation because we were on a tight schedule for the concert, but they were only accepting guests who had reservations. Definitely will go back the next time I’m in town!
Completely understaffed. Arrived with four people for dinner before concert right down the street. We were one of three tables in restaurant occupied. Twenty minutes after ordering we don’t have salads, and start noticing not a single table has food. Despite the best efforts of our server we ended up paying for drinks and went to concert hungry.
We went on a Saturday night and it was decent food and service but nothing special.
Really enjoyed dinner there on a Monday night. Seemed to be one of the few options for a dinner meeting in downtown. There were very few customers in the evening - so service was fantastic and the food was exceptional. Our out of town guests were totally surprised by the reasonable prices for such excellent food!
Five of us had different dishes and appetizers. Every item was excellent. From fish to pasta all were superb. The prices were so reasonable, we did not expect such high quality.
What a pleasant surprise. We are from out of town and just wanted some good Italian food! We found it. It was pretty quiet that evening since there was a Cardinals game, but that made it perfect. Wine was good and the food was fantastic. I'd recommend to EVERYONE!
Cioppino was very, very good. Our waitress was also the bartender. She was knowledgeable & did a good job, but it was just her and another girl to cover all of the tables. This made the service slow. Had to seat yourself, and the tables were not getting cleaned off from the people that sat there before. Just really understaffed at a time when they should be ready for a big crowd prior to a Cardinals game.
We walked to Gios from our hotel (The Magnolia) and enjoyed some of the best Italian food we ever put in our mouths. We were seated in the La Russa room which was an extra treat. We walked on to Busch stadium and extended a great evening with baseball game on my friends birthday! His team won!
Great food and our waitress was really nice. Definitely will be going back.
A co-worker and I dined at Gio's during Downtown Restaurant Week so we did not order from their standard menu. We had a very early reservation as we came straight from work and the restaurant was pretty much empty. It started filling up towards a later dinner time. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was friendly and informative. Each course of our dinner was served in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely return to Gio's and highly recommend it to friends.
Service was the ONLY thing that surpassed the wonderful food!!!! Waiter was polite, very knowledgeable, and the most pleasant woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of serving my food! She was FABULOUS!!! Will definitely go back next time my wife and I are in St. Louis!
Good food. Serving size just right Not enough staff for number of patrons
Very good food and service
The food was outstanding! Service as well
Nice place and service. Close to the ballpark but maybe since there was no game the place was literally empty at 7:30. Had the cioppino and it was good. Wife had carbonara and it was a bit boring or possibly they over cooked the sauce. Prices were reasonable for the location.
Great service and Food. Surprised that there wasn’t more people there?!
This was my first time to Gio’s. I will definitely be going back. Excellent food and service.
Thoroughly enjoyed a variety of dishes, from the wedge salad to the vegetable risotto & italian burger. Will be returning soon to this quiet gem.
Reliable consistent food and service at a good price.
I was hoping for a table with a view of the arch, but that room was closed. Instead we were seated in a back, bar area. So I was prepared to be disappointed. Our food ended up being excellent and our server was too. Pleasantly surprised!
This was our half marathon pre-race dinner. Carbing up'
Lovely place, good food, great prices...we had requested a quiet table, so our server, Britany(?) put us alone in an overflow room and gave us fantastic service!
We would highly recommend this place.
Excellent service, had friends from out of state and they were impressed.
Very poor service. Waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for food to be delivered to the table before telling the waiter we were leaving and cancel the order. People who were seated after us received their food and left before u. We never received our order. Just bread a one salad and an appetizer.
Great place for a quiet business lunch in downtown St Louis. Excellent pasta, veal, etc. Really appreciate the good service.
Went for a 9 year old birthday party - the girls were treated like grow up adult ladies, and they were overjoyed. THANK YOU!!! AMAZING!!
We made pre-game reservations. Our drive was > 3 hours but we left early enough that we were going to be an hour earlier than expected. I called and the graciously changed us. When we arrived, there were signs up saying they were closed for a private event. I was concerned we were in the wrong spot, but when I asked, they said, "Oh no, we were expecting you." We were seated away from the large group (who arrived a little bit later). Our server, Mikayla, was great and we took the internet's advice and got the gooey butter cake. I suggest you do too! It was a great pre-game meal and we will be back in the future.
Gio's always does a great job; food is very good, service terrific. Friendly, helpul staff.
We dined at this establishment for downtown STL restaurant week. It was out first time eating here. We definitely enjoyed the food. The entrée portions were a little small, but made up for it with the dessert portions. Love the gooey butter dessert !!! Our server (Michaela) was very personable and attentive. Thanks for a great evening !
We stopped by for Downtown Restaurant Week. The 3 corse meal options were fantastic. For 25 dollars a head it was more ham enough food. The Grouper and Gooey Butter Cake were outstanding. I will be coming back.
Great food, good service. Used open table which was great not to have to wait on a Friday night.
Authentic Italian food at a reasonable prices. Good wine list. Great before or after ballgame. Michaela, our server, was awesome! Bonus: no provel cheese!
Grouper was char-burned. Only had one bottle of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay and way over priced.
The staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating. The wine was good, and the pizza was very good (even though I am not a fan of very thin crusts, this held together very nicely).
In our group two shared a pizza and one had the vegetable risotto. Both were delicious.
