About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Innovative
Las Palmas is a family owned and operated business with strong ties to the city. From East Rogers Park to Wicker Park, we identify with the strain of this urban metropolis and feel a vested interest in providing a communal place for the essentials of human activities.

Tucked into a tiny alcove in one of this city’s trendiest neighborhoods, Las Palmas remains one of Bucktown’s best-kept secrets. Upon entering the restaurant one’s senses are inundated with the vibrant colors of local and international artwork and the festive or melancholy sounds of live traditional music. Las Palmas serves spirited Mexican cuisine in a decidedly upscale, but refreshingly unpretentious environment. Chef Alberto Bailon provides an exquisite selection of courses made from the freshest ingredients with solid roots in Mexican culinary heritage yet with a penchant for inventive whimsy.

Our neighborhood favorite. The guacamole is fantastic - we order extra spicy. The fajitas are perfectly seasoned and delicious - our favorites are chicken and pork. Enjoy the premium margaritas - salt on the rim, of course. The service is always friendly and efficient, and never rushed. Perfectly authentic. Absolutely recommended.

Las Palmas is one of our neighborhood favorites. The premium margaritas are fantastic, the service is great and food is fresh and delicious. Enchayotadas and extra spicy guacamole are our go-to vegetarian dishes for meatless days.

The entrance to this place was packed, but we got our table and we were served delicious mango margaritas to start with. Their queso fundido was good. I tried the Asada and the meat was very tender. Great flavor. Service was nice, but because it was a busy Saturday night, we did have to wait to ask for additional drinks. I would definitely come back but during the week.

Restaurant was overbooked. We didn't get seated until 9pm for an 8pm reservation. The front of the house appeared to be taking names on a piece of paper for seating although most of us who were waiting had set reservations times. Because the restaurant was so far behind, the table we were seated at wasn't properly set therefore we couldn't even eat the food we ordered because we had no plates or utensils. Overall just a bad experience for us.

Tried to go for Valentine’s Day. The restaurant apparently SEVERELY misjudged their ability to take reservation slots. Because myself and numerous other couples were standing around waiting forever. I counter 21 people standing waiting at the time we showed up for our reservation. We were laughed at when asked about what kind of wait time there was, even with a reservation. We knew it was pointless so we scrambled to find other plans and went elsewhere. TL;DR version: It was a busy Friday Valentine’s Day but restaurant severely misjudged their ability to honor reservations and thus any reservation was essentially meaningless. Never even got sat or had food. Food is probably ok, just wouldn’t try this place on a busy night. Pick a slow weeknight.

We love coming to Las Palmas! We’ve been here three times now and will definitely keep coming back! We always start out with the queso fundito and then get the cochinita pibil and molcajete as our entrees, and they’ve been amazing every time. The food is hot and flavorful and exactly what we were craving. We also love the atmosphere. It’s a little eclectic with a mix of contemporary and traditional influences, but it all flows together and makes for a great neighborhood spot.

Had a great New Year's Eve meal. Steak and shrimp were prepared simply but were very tasty. Was just the right portion size. Excellent guacamole and margaritas too!
