Contemporary American
Marion Street Cheese Market is more than just a cheese store. The store sells an array of different cheeses, condiments, sweets, charcuterie, craft beer and wine. There's also a bistro-style restaurant adjacent to the market where guests can sample a wide range of New American dishes. Marion Street Cheese Market is a great place to enjoy a meal and shop for a variety of craft goods. Begin the meal at Marion Street Cheese Market with an appetizer like bacon wrapped dates, scallops or deep fried cheese curds. For lunch, try the chorizo benedict, cauliflower sandwich or goat cheese omelet. The dinner menu offers several seafood options including halibut, trout and walleye. Enjoy the seafood with a dish of mushroom risotto or a side of hash brown casserole.

I was disappointed with the salad I ordered at Sunday brunch . There were no avocados, no eggs and a very small amount of blue cheese, all of which was listed on the menu. I should have sent it back. If they don't have all the items for the salad, they should say so. The waiter we had was great.

Came to Marion Street for brunch on a Sunday morning. The waiter we had was almost useless. He could not answer simple questions about the menu items, stating he hardly ever works the breakfast shift so wasn't familiar with the items. That just isn't acceptable! Learn the menu! The food itself was very good. I had the frittata, one friend got the California Benedict, and another got an omelet. One diner in my group is GF and there were plenty of options. I would go back but maybe for the lunch or dinner service and hope for a better waiter.

Our food was good, but it was a bummer b/c I had out of town guests who were stressed about needing to leave by a certain time and we got served after two other tables sat down after us and our service was slow. It ended up being stressful to leave later than planned after I had set a reservation for when it opened at 11:30am.

Had high hopes as I've driven past numerous times....it failed miserably. Wait staff was uninformed, asked questions about cheese and charcuterie and was read the menu. No insight to product. Asked about wine to choose the right bottle, again read the wine list. No knowledge. We had a later reso and we're rushed out the door. Was asked multiple times is we wanted to place an order for more food, before we had gotten the first item, which was changed without our knowledge because they ran out. Kitchen staff out looking to see what else was needed before the first order was served. First time visiting here and last time! Don't waste your time and money, better options available.

A great brunch menu. Had a mini-reunion with a couple of old friends, and we all had great brunch meals. I love eggs Benedict, and they have a "California" version that replaces the Canadian bacon with avocado and tomato. Highly recommend. The sauce was delicious. Very few people on this Saturday morning, so it was very quiet. Service was a little slow, but the waitress explained that everything is made to order so it takes longer. Makes sense if the result is good, and it was.

My ratings compare this restaurant to Chicago eateries, which means this place is very, very good. They have stepped up their game in the last few months and it shows. Although I don't know if it will attract folks from Chicago, it certainly will keep Oak Parkers from having to travel to the city to get a good meal. It is one of the top 2-3 places in Oak Park.

Marion Street used to be so much better before they revamped it. I've gone a few times after and my server never seems to know anything about cheese or wine. I have asked for recommendations and the server looks like a deer in the headlights. Really sad because I used to love this place.

The restaurant was pleasant, the food was fine (how far wrong can you go with a cheese omelet), and the service was attentive. I only rated it a good because they were out of regular coffee on a Sunday afternoon and I was never offered a refill on my iced tea. The tomatillo salsa that was served with my friend's huevos rancheros and that I requested on the side for my omelet was dull at best. These are small details that a good restaurant shouldn't let happen.

The service was absolutely off the last two times we dined there. One was a dinner date; the waitress clearly didn't know the food, the wine, and it was almost embarrassing for the prices that you are paying to dine there. The second time was for brunch, and we waited over 45 minutes to receive our food. The restaurant was not that busy either. We waited about 15 minutes to get our coffee and drinks and it was just a disappointment.

I've been wanting to try this place for brunch for awhile, and wasn't disappointed. The menu has a good variety of savory and sweet, and everything came out wonderfully. Sitting outside was nice, though there can be occasional street / train noise, so expect that going in. Otherwise it is not too loud. They've got great cheese, wine, and beer selections for purchase outside of meals as well, so be sure to give those a look.

we had a very odd and disappointing experience. i received a call the day before requesting a call back "as soon as possible" to confirm our reservation - which i did. then i was surprised to see that there were 4 other diners in the entire place when we arrived - i thought the urgency to confirm was related to the high demand to eat at that time? anyway - i ordered the california benedict, specifically because i love avocado. when we got our meal, i got a benedict, but the server said "oh we are out of avocado, so they just put asparagus on it, we hope that's ok". it wasn't asparagus, it was leeks, which i don't like. i do not understand why, if you know you're out of something, you don't tell me the second i order so i can decide if i want to make another choice or not. makes no sense at all. so i sent it back to get something else because i don't like leeks and they were shredded all over the benedict. so, my friend ate her breakfast alone, then i ate mine alone 15 minutes later. not the way i planned on our breakfast going. there was no apology for any of this, and they acted like they were gracious in removing the charge for the initial breakfast. won't be back.

Though our server was friendly and attentive and kept checking for our order to be ready we were disappointed in the kitchen prep. Our lunch for two on a non-busy day ( 1 entree salad and 1 house grilled cheese) took over 30 minutes from order to arrival at our table. The salad was fresh and VERY good but the grilled sandwich was barely cooked (cheese was mostly melted but not a hint of golden on the bread.) The manager of the day apologized for the delay and offered to remake the sandwich (after telling us the first one burned hence the delay in serving our lunch, and they were short handed) but we declined figuring they were 2 (poorly cooked) for 2. The manager then offered a free desert. The better offer would have been to comp the sandwich. We do not live in the area but did visit this restaurant a year ago and had a very good experience that time. Hopefully the kitchen glitch this visit was a temporary problem.

MS Cheese Market has been a favorite place in Oak Park for several years. The remodel/reconfiguration is very nice, although the tables are a little close together, at least where we were seated. On the menu, it seemed like maybe the cheese selections have been cut back a bit to just 4 different flights, each with a theme. We picked the French. They were delicious and a nice balance, but it took entirely too long for the cheese to find its way to our table. We had only begun to enjoy them when our entrees arrived, basically preempting that experience. Perhaps the main disappointment was the exceptionally slow service. In fact, had the manager not come over, I'm not sure we would have been offered a cocktail before dinner. It seemed like maybe some of the other guests were having that issue as well. The fish entrée my wife ordered was very good. I had the evening special, a tenderloin preparation, which was OK, but not that great. We didn't bother with dessert, but were a little surprised by the amount of the bill. There are better values with better service in town. Not quite up to the standard I would expect.

This was my first visit since the restaurant closed for renovations and reopened. The menu is all new. The layout of the dining room feels a little new. While our dinners were tasty, the service was very poor because there were not enough servers. When we spoke after dinner to the manager he lamely apologized for being short staffed. However he made no visible effort during the meal to control the problems and make us understand what was going on. I feel that a neighborhood gem closed and has reopened as something nearer to mediocre. Not because of the food, but because of the service.

Went to this spot to try the cheese flights and it didn't disappoint. Also enjoyed some beer and scotch while the wife had some wine. The lamb chop sliders were amazing! Waiter was very polite and knowledgeable but service was a bit slow. I really like that they sold some of the things we ate but they were a bit out of our price range. Overall it was a nice spot and we plan to return one day.

Terrible service. Chaotic staff. Our Mother's Day brunch experience was awful. We had no server. It took two hours and me getting up multiple times to request someone coming to our table to get through coffee and breakfast. Two hours. And the restaurant was nowhere near full. No one seemed to be in charge of anything. Very hesitant to ever go back, which is disappointing after being a regular for several years.

My daughter noticed that her wallet was gone after we left. Be careful! Don't leave your purse on the back of your chair.

This is our 4th time here. Last time we came here it was hands down the best brunch we've ever had. This time? Not so much. Different menu. Different atmosphere. And frankly, not nearly as good. Mac and cheese was cold & bland. Not the same at all. Pretty sad for a cheese place to have a sub par mac and cheese. As for the rest we ordered? Just ok. I will not be coming back, which is sad, since this was our fav brunch spot previously.

Marion Street Market recently reopened after remodeling and under new ownership, so we were anxious to try it out. Both of us had fish- me, the trout, he, white fish. Both were perfectly cooked and had amazing sauces. Even had dessert- apple cake- also delicious. Server was very busy; I think that they could use more help. Overall, a very pleasant evening. We look forward to going back. Note: although we ate outside, the remodeled restaurant looks very attractive!

This was the first time I went back after the renovation. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the Beef Short Rib and it was perfect. I enjoy the new layout and design. Much more modern but, still warm. I like the new small sitting area for quick and casual eating as well as the wine and cheese tastings in the same area. There are three things I am a tad disappointed about. They decreased the choices for the cheese and meat flights (also I believe they don't have mixed flights anymore with both cheese and meat). They let you mix and match though which is sufficient. The second and third is they no longer carry The Path Merlot which was a favorite of mine and they have decreased their beer selection. I can get over having a different wine selection to choose from but this was my go to for different craft beers I've never tried. Even with these disappointments I would say that Marion Street is still going to be one of my go to places. As long as the quality of food is great and their cheese selection is numerous it will continuing being my favorite restaurant in Oak Park.

Very nice place. It's a combination of a cheese deli counter, bar and restaurant. I know that sounds kind of strange, but when you are in the restaurant you can't really see the deli counter. They had a great selection of wine. We only got appetizers but they were very tasty. The wait staff was very attentive but not overpowering. I would definitely go back there again.

MSCM has been around for a while and is getting better with age. The new management has recently renovated the space to feel more open, which is a nice change. The service is also continuing to improve. The one staple of this place is that the food has always been good, so nice to see that everything else is rising the level of its potential.

I very much appreciate MSCM's efforts to revitalize the dining experience. However, a few marked differences between the old and new MSCM are a disappointment. The dining experience was previously relaxing, now it is harried. I made a reservation and was asked by the hostess what my name was three times. We were seated without a drink menu. The drink and the wine were just OK. The soup was really good and the entrees were tasty. But, I kept getting hit in the back because the aisles were too narrow. The waiter filled my wife's water glass but not mine. No one asked if we had been there before or explained the new menu. The whole meal and experience was cramped and rushed. The next day, there were three charges on my card for the same amount. It has since been resolved, but was alarming to see, especially after the night I had. I'll be back in a few months, hopefully the kinks will be worked out by then and the former relaxed, yet exquisite, ambiance will be restored. In the meantime, if I want to feel cramped and rushed during a meal, I'll dine on an airplane.

The food was outstanding. The seating was too close for comfort. I could hear everthing the couples on each sideof me were saying. One inch closer and it would have been communal dining. I was not at all interested in that, and the couples to my left and right didn't seem interested either. Service was good, but our waitress could have been more knowledgeable regarding the menu. Although the food was delicious, the serving sizes were a little small and I didn't noticed any designated area on the menu for appetizers. The closests item to an appetizer was the flat bread. While we were dining, there were many couples and maybe 2 larger groups and one included an infant. This restaurant is not a place for children, especially crying infants. I have three children, one who is nine, and although she enjoys a good meal like the rest of us, this place is just not the right place for bringing her. I wish people would consider others when deciding to bring their infants to a finer dining restaurant, especially on a Saturday night, and when the restaurant has tight quarters.
