Great Ambiance and Superb Food highlights our latest visit to Chelsea Tavern. The Chelsea Cheeseburger made with Hereford beef was the absolute best we have ever had. Additionally, the Fried Artichoke appetizer was unique and very tasty. Service was great and drink were flavorful. I especially welcomed the extra room with our table.
My wife and I went there for dinner prior to a show at the theater across the street. We started with appetizers of loaded Brussel sprouts and crispy artichokes. Both were excellent, Brussel sprouts crispy roasted with bacon bits and cheese whiz, artichokes I believe were beer battered fried and what tasted like a lime cilantro flavoring added in on a bed of arugula and shaved parmesan cheese. For entrees my wife had a wild mushroom with rice and added chicken to it and I had a crispy buffalo chicken sandwiches with cherry peppers and fries. Both were very good and tasty. The house salads we had were superb with a Dijon vinaigrette dressing. The drink my wife had, she said was made very good. It was a Dogfish something, don't recall. She is picky so if she said it was good, it was. And for desert we both had the warm granny Smith apple cake with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. The wait staff were very good. There was no lag between courses and everything that was supposed to be hot was. The atmosphere was relaxed, not rushed and we were finished in plenty of time to make our show. The price was very reasonable for what we had. I had some trepidation at first, but once seated and looked at the menu and then when I took that first bite, I knew we hit a home run selecting Chelseas for dinner. In fact two days later we are still talking about it and plan to drive down from South Jersey one night just for dinner.
Perfect for pre-theater dining. Easy reservation process, prompt and attentive service, great food & ambiance, wide beer selection.
While first impressions was that we’d entered a dive bar, we were quickly relieved of that impression. The service was perfect. Our server was sweet, polite and 100% respectful of our food allergies. The food was beautifully plated and delicious. The value was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Besides some long pauses in service, the food and atmosphere were very nice for a date night with my wife. I had the Delaware Destroyer burger with scrapple on top, and it was super juicy. The crab dip appetizer was also on point. Even the wife's pizza tasted great the next day as leftovers.
Our dinner was tasty and well-paced. We began with the white bean hummus, which was excellent garnished with tapenade for extra flavor. The wine list had a French sparkler that was quite a good value. Our main courses were fine, and the apple dessert made with wonderfully tart fruit was a special winner.
Great meal, food cooked to order and seasoning request. Tasty. Great server.
Loved the Idaho, sweet potato crispy onion fries; very unusual.
A good location in downtown Wilmington. Nice menu, although burgers were served cool to taste. Drinks were good.
Excellent dining experience! I’ve been to Chelsea Tavern a number of times and it’s always a satisfying experience.
Great food and service. We were seated in the wine room. Extra special. We always have a great time here.
My group of five ladies had lunch at the tavern prior to going to the play at the DuPont Theater. We enjoyed the food the atmosphere and the price.
Really enjoyed the food and great service! Perfect spot for a relaxing dinner after work to unwind. We will definitely be coming back!
We had not been to the Chelsea Tavern in quite a while but decided to take a friend who was visiting into the City for Saturday brunch. We had wonderful food and it was quiet enough for us to catch up with one another's news. Very enjoyable morning.
Good food, a relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced,b right across the street from The Grand. Worthwhile if you are seeing a show at The Grand
My husband and I had tickets for a show at the Playhouse, so I looked for an option that was closeby. I found the Chelsea Tavern and loved their menu. They had plenty of specials to choose from as well! There was a $30 price fix menu that served 3 courses. I had the Bacon & Corn chowder, Bourbon Maple Salmon and Apple Carmel Cake - every course was amazing! My husband had the salad, the steak entrée and the chocolate torte. He loved his meal as well. The variety of beer was outstanding too! If we head back to Wilmington we will definitely be coming here again!
We have gone to the Tavern several times over the past years. Three of us went to dinner pre show. IO order a salad which was very good. It took several reminders to get our drinks order correct with the waitress serving my husband a bottle of beer instead of the lager on tap he requested. One of our party had the cheese plate for dinner and loved it. I ordered the Red Snapper which was on the fishy side of what snapper should be and very dry. I was served with some sauce, but there was a good cup plus of rice on top of the sauce the soaked it up. My husband orders a pizza which came a good 1.3 burnt. Not just growing but charcoal on the edge and bottom. My husband immediately told the waitress he was not accept it and they needed to redo the order. She apologized and commented she should not have served the pizza. This was the same statement we encountered 3+ months ago with another burnt pizza, but this one was charcoal. They did re-make the pizza which was fine. When the bill came, we were chargers for the bottle of beer even though it was immediately returned. Overall the service was sub-par and entree not something I would ever repeat. This might be a place for hamburgers, sandwiches etc, but entrees you need to go elsewhere. We did look at the dessert menu, but opted to go to Univ of Delaware creamery and had FABULOUS ice cream. FOod and service is very inconnbsistent, with more poor food and service than what you expect for the cost.
Live in center city Philly. Usually go to Dupont Hotel for lunch when in the area.
I suggested another place just to change the scenery
air conditioning way too cold.
More comfortable outside.
Cool, rainy damp day, place was uncomfortable for almost an hour we ate lunch
Burger not anything out of the ordinary..just like any other place.
My friend had pastrami said it was ok.
Fries were cold by the time the ketchup arrived.
Don't understand why ketchup & mustard is not on the table..
the Chelsea is our usual before the Delaware Symphony dinner location. The food is good and well prepared. there are numbers of other pre-concert diners so the noise level is elevated. Despite the busy time, service is good and personal.
I had the crab and shrimp risotto and it was fantastic! Great beer selection, unfortunately was out of the first two I selected.
Chelsea Tavern is our 'go-to' place for special occasions but also for everyday dining. The food is always excellent to go along with their excellent menu selections. Burgers are & sandwiches are great as are all of the their 'dinner style' selections. Being a craft beer nerd, I compliment their draft and bottled beer selections which change often enough to enjoy new beers on each visit. If you haven't experienced this gem yet, try it.
Me and my girlfriend have frequented Chelsea tavern the past year and always have a great meal with fantastic service. The atmosphere is always laid back, quiet, but ideal for special occasions or even a sports night out.
Wonderful atmosphere and great food. Our dinner was exceptionally tasty and cooked perfectly.
We always dine at Chelsea Tavern before a show at the Grand or in this case The Queen. It’s in the perfect location for a pre-show dinner. We always manage to get on street parking. The service is always good and the food is great. Last night we had their outstanding soft pretzel appetizer and a cheeseburger and crab panini. Both sandwiches and their sides were perfectly prepared. I’d highly recommend The Chelsea!
I'd heard a lot about the restaurant but do not get to Wilmington often. After dining there, I thought the hype exceeded the actual experience. Service was good, food okay but the ambiance was not as quaint as I was expecting.
As always, the food at Chelsea Tavern was great, the service was outstanding and the the beer list is one of the best, if not the best, in the Wilmington area.
First time here even though I am from the general area. Group of five of us went to dinner and the food was incredible along with the service. I had the best dirty martini I ever had in my life. Fish was fresh, pizza was awesome along with pulled pork. The hummus and crab dip were excellent as appetizers. Will be sure to come back. Thank you for a special belated "fathers day dinner".
Father's Day Brunch. Restaurant is a run down. No easy access to bathrooms. Eggs were overcooked. Pancakes were also overcooked.
Server was very helpful! Appy pretzels and dessert were amazing!
This was a reasonably pleasant dining experience, but nothing to write home about. It was conveniently located directly across from the theatre. The place was packed, so just a bit noisy, but terribly loud. The service was satisfactory, again, it was full up. While I would go here again with friends, it is not one of my top picks for downtown Wilmington.
Our server was very attentive. His name is Drew. The calamari was very rubbery, greasy and bland. Caesar salad was good but really over dressed. We had the crab panini, which was pretty good. I don’t know that I would go back.
An exceptional evening before event at the Grand. Food was great. Kaitlyn was professional and energetic. She added to the entire experience I have already recommended the Chelsea!
We came from out of town and were searching for a quick meal before going to the Grand Opera House. This was directly across the street, and we could not have been more pleased with the menu, the ambiance and service. They have an amazing beer list . The loaded brussel sprouts were out of this world.
Chelsea Tavern has very good food and service. Highly recommend.
Prompt & Friendly service. Nice ambiance for a special occasion. We had Sunday brunch as the selection was wonderful. Food was very good. We will definitely return.
We always enjoy Chelsea Tavern. This time we had a table that was at the entrance to the kitchen even though we had a reservation. Very noisy. Not energetic, noisy. One guest ordered a salad appetizer that came with the entrees. A cooked appetizer came before. Why?
A reminder of why we have been here so few times since the restaurant opened. The service is slow and inattentive; 10mins from seating to our drink order being taken, and then another 10mins to get 2 draft beers to the table. The food was surprisingly poor. We had the “large” Caesar salad which was certainly not entree size, and bland on top of that. The mushroom pizza was soggy with an undercooked crust, overloaded in cheese, and oily. We did hope something had changed from prior experiences, but unfortunately not. Off our list.
Food was excellent, as usual! Joe and his staff are top-notch and accommodating! Our waitress, Alicia, was wonderful!
The food was ok, certainly a good value, and a varied enough menu for anyone. Our server was especially good, friendly, but not overly, attentive, but not overly. She never disappeared for too long. We ate in the wine cellar, which was very quiet.
Picked this spot off the internet to have dinner before a show atGrsnd Ooera House. We were not disappointed. Great beer selection, good cocktails and very good food!
Chelsea Tavern is our 'go to' place in Wilmington. The food is always great and their prix fix menus are always a bargain. They have an innovative menu with a wide range of choices. Service is always exceptional - attentive but not intrusive. The craft beer menu, both on tap and in bottles, is one of the best around.
