Both adults separately arrived at the same conclusion- food was awful during Tuesday’s happy hour. We had the pepperoni pizza and steak tacos.
This is great Ballard eatery. the menu has good variety. A go to choice.
We did not feel the food and service was worth the price. We had to keep asking for coffee refills in a nearly empty restaurant. Overpriced for average food.
They did not have 9 of 12 items I asked for from their menu. And some of these were their main dishes. Very bad
We love Hi Life, as a family, for dinner. There is always something for everyone including vegetarians, kids and adults with special diets. I love that the kids menu has non-standard options. I especially love that the menu is seasonally driven as well. We choose Hi Life over and over and continue to be satisfied. I don't love it as much for lunch since the menu is more restricted but dinner is stellar.
Came here for a beer and a bite to eat after visiting the Nordic Museum. The service was outstanding, great beer choices with casual and comfortable seating in the bar/outside area. We ordered a variety of items off of the HH menu. HH food was fine, but nothing to rave about. I'd come back for the great service and atmosphere.
Going to Hi-Life is the same as seeing a good friend. The food isn't always the best, but it is reliably OK. However, the Sunday night chicken and biscuits was a surprise. The chicken was just fried and delicious. And the biscuits tasted homemade. Very nice indeed. The juice and sugar cookies for the kids is always a big hit. I do recommend Hi-Life for Sunday evenings and casual get togethers other nights.
Yum! Went for breakfast early on a weekday and it was not crowded at all and, more importantly, totally delicious! The summer berry French toast was ridiculously huge and yummy! Hubby had the Migas and said it was excellent. Daughter had a waffle and she said it was perfect. And super crispy bacon upon request! Yay! Food was great, nice laid back atmosphere and service was excellent. Server was friendly, helpful and attentive. Thanks for keeping the coffee coming! Great spot!
Great service. Friendly and helpful. Incredible little gems salad. Good skirt steak. Peach cobbler wasn’t really a cobbler and had too much oatmeal. Only miss.
We had to wait to be seated even though the restaurant was not that busy, seating hostess seemed too busy doing other tasks. Service was OK, could have been better had they had more staff.
We are frequent flyers at this family favorite, but had a BEST EVER experience when we dined with old friends. We were a large group, and were lucky to have a friendly and EXPERT server. Varied menu made it easy for two generations to find a delicious meal. Thank you!
Great they celebrated with us it was awesome! Great food
Satisfied 3 super hungry adults and 2 super hungry kids. No problem talking across round table on Monday night dinner. Very good value.
We sat outside and had breakfast with my son visiting from out of town. I had the spring jumble (?) which was lots a great veggies w/ just the right amount of heat. I can’t remember what Sam had but he reported it it be delicious! Would go back again.
As the reservation was for quite early in the day,..I cannot really comment on the usual"ambience",..but the staff were helpful , patient and friedly,.....the food was good,...and at least the early lunch offered a chance for good converstaion, without having to rais eones voice by any great degree. Parking nearby is a little tricky,..but,...I would eat here again upon my return to the Ballard area,....
Hard to judge a restaurant at the end of a very busy weekend. They did their best and the wait staff were exhausted but functioning. The drinks were quite pricey and they automatically added 18% for a tip and did not mention it. It was written in fine print on the bill but would of been easy to miss. I would like to try them again on a less crowded time.
Great food and atmosphere! Always a recommendation to friends from out of town. Love that they are kid friendly and can accommodate large groups.
We were excited about this place because the menu looked promising but will not be returning because of the service. The food was pretty good, despite being cold by the time we ate it.
Delicious food and cocktails in a casual environment. A little too loud but great service.
To loud. Service ok. Food soso.
Always good for family gatherings. We have enjoyed many Sunday dinners with gatherings of 8 or more. The family style chicken is always enjoyed.
Great comfort food! Fun atmosphere.
The room was cool for my colleagues who were from Souther Calif. The food was off the chain good.
Great food, great service!
Chicken dinner was awesome. Bit of wait for the food, but to be fair they got hit by a surge of customers all at once. Waiter was excellent.
Really wonderful Cobb salad though just a little heavy on the blue cheese.
Food had a unique & creative touch that makes them original and stand out on their own. Food was delicious. I was looking for something different but good for breakfast and we found the perfect place. Too bad we don't live near by.
Nice choice of food options. Delightful staff at the bar which is where we often choose to sit. We enjoy watching them as they hustle and bustle with smiles and occasional laughter. Quick friendly service of beverages and food.
Our waitress was great (sorry don't remember her name). I didn't know what I wanted to eat and asked her about 4 things on the menu. She recommended the clams and ahi tartare off the small menus and I couldn't have been happier. Both were delicious! She had a huge table near us, for an engagement party but we never felt neglected.
We went for the Sunday fried chicken dinner and it was fantastic. The chicken was crispy with just the right amount of spice, the mashed potatoes were great, and we got carrots as the vegetable and they were cooked to perfection. Also, the service was fantastic.
Our server was spectacular. She had great recommendations and a wonderful attitude and sense of humor!!! Food was fabulous!!!
Good casual dining in great old building, with old bar and neighborhood feeling. Food is good, but not great, some imagination in menu.
Food was good. Service ok. Sold my email address and now I can’t stop the spam! That leaves the ultimate bad taste in my mouth......
My kids love this place because of the make-your-own cookies. But, the last 2 times we've been, it has been so loud that it's hard to talk, and both times one of my kids got overwhelmed and wanted to leave early. This particular visit I was also a little annoyed that when my kids asked what kind of soft drinks they had, the server included not only the free ones on the kids menu, but also the bottled ones that cost $4 each. Of course my kids wanted the bottled ones, and we had to negotiate a compromise. This visit felt hectic and busy, and not particularly enjoyable, but I will probably be back since I've had better experiences in the past.
Cool environment, it was an old fire station, with casual dinner menu and good cocktails. Service was slow and we didn't see our waitress for quite awhile after being seated. Then she checked in repeatedly on us to order. We ordered 2 orders of ribs on a Friday night and about 15 minutes after we ordered, she returned to tell us they only had 1 order of ribs left. They also lost my friends pizza ordered. The manager nicely took the pizza off our bill but it was very odd for a Friday night when the place was not packed. I think I will try other places in Ballard for next time.
Loved the building and the history. The food was delicious .
We hadn't been here for a while and were reminded that we need to come more often. Our meals were very good—and compared to restaurants in the area—we found it very affordable.
Excellent food and service. We were there New Year’s Eve and had a blast. We sat close to the door. That spot was a little chilly. Will sit somewhere else next time.
My wife had flank steak. I had blackened pork and grits. We shared a small plate of gnocchi. All were great! Our server was fun and friendly. We will be back.
Normally this is a great place to eat, but I've seen the quality of the food decline recently. The lamb sliders were overcooked. I get they are small (actually small even by slider standards), but cooking them past well done is unforgivable. My LDC had the vegetarian plate. She asked if it was spicy and the server said it was more sour and not spicy at all. The vegetables were either too hard to eat, too spicy for her, too bland, or a combination of these. I've never had pickled butternut squash, but if this is any indication, it should never be done. It was not softened in the least. Imagine slicing a squash to about 1/4 inch and dousing it in spicy vinegar for a few minutes. Not sure if we'll be going returning again.
