I had a reservation and was seated immediately, waiter came right over and told what beers were on tap. We each ordered an entree, I the had that skin in boneless chicken in a butter sauce which is consistently amazingly delicious. My friend has the steak Whitbeck enjoyed very much. Fries were crispy and hot. No dessert but another excellent meal at Mateo.

With a reservation it took 15 minutes until we had someone come by our table. Almost an hour until we got our entrees. Tables are placed so close together that waiters who were cutting from one side of the place to the other constantly bumping. This is second time we visit. Previous time was much better.

The food was delicious and it was a very comfortable venue. The wine list has a great selection of French wines, especially Burgundy. The restaurant was busy so the noise level was a bit higher but not to the point that you could not hold a conversation. The service was informal and friendly, just what we like! Overall, a great experience and we will be sure to return.

We have always had great service at Mateo. But this time was different. We ordered a red wine, they brought a rose (by the same name). They went to look for the red. 10 minutes and we checked with 2 other people to get some wine. - “any wine, a different red, something similar, we’re not picky.” The server asked the bar tender and the manager and no one had something to offer us. ????? The server said “all the other reds are twice the price of the one you picked and we don’t have it and the owner isn’t here and has left us to fend for ourselves”. #awkward We finally went to the bar and asked for beer. Fine got some beer. Manager stopped by and offered us the rose again (we were drinking beer now) and apologized and bought our drinks. We ordered a second round of beers, that were forgotten. (Maybe they didn’t want to buy them for us?) We were happy to buy our own drinks, if we could get someone to serve them. The food was delicious.

Service was terrible. Took 30 minutes to get our first drink order and then when drinks came they were wrong. The staff didn't appear to know what they were doing. It appeared the entire staff including the bar tender hads just been hired. I would not go back and this is a resturaunt we have frquented.

Service was extremely slow. Took over 10 minutes to get a glass of wine served before dinner. Dinner service was also very slow. Steaks arrived lukewarm and fries, cold. One diner had an ungenerous serving of rissoto. Ordered another glass of wine to go with meal that arrived as she was finishing her meal. Brownie dessert arrived unevenly cooked, shoeleather corners and completely uncooked center. The only rapid service of the evening was processing our credit card when the bill came. This was our first and probably last time dining at Mateo.

The food is ALWAYS amazing. The service is ALWAYS poor. I hadn't been there during a really busy time before, was not prepared for the noise level. Was also surprised thre were no specials on a Friday night. Prior to this experience, I would highly recommend Mateo, not any more. This was a very special occasion, I had friends I was introducing to your restaurant. I was extremely disappointed.

We had gone to happy hour here and had been wanting have dinner here for a long time and always had issues getting a reservation. We finally got to go this weekend and was disappointed to find out that the menu in Open Table was not the the most recent menu. The server said that the menu had changed a while ago. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance is wonderful. I had the tuna tartare, which had olive tapenade mixed in. I love olives, but it was a little too strong for some of the people at the table. The pork chop was quite dry and the spinach that was served with it tasted like canned spinach. The service was excellent.

I have been to Mateo several times before and this time it was not good. We arrived 30 minutes early and they thankfully sat us. Even though it was CU's family weekend is not an excuse for sitting down for 15minutes, before getting water or a drink order. It was clear that Mateo was under staffed and under prepared for the numbers. Our poor waitress was stuck between our section and the outside patio clearly overwhelmed. Note do not get the Tuna ceviche it has more olives in it than tuna. thankfully the waitress realized it and had it taken of the check. I had the bouillabaisse, which was two under cooked scallops withe shrimp and a tomato purred base. It was a take on bouillabaisse that went wrong. My wife ordered the hamburger which she shared with me and that was even over cooked. Unfortunately for them as a local I will never go back.

An off night. Whoever printed the menu left off some of the regular stuff. But we asked, and it was available. I usually love their mussels. But they were bland and sandy. Mussels are not supposed to crunch. My husband ordered the chicken for his main. It was plenty moist, but flavorless. His frites came out just as he was finishing his chicken. I ordered the fruits de mer. The scallops were tender, but not rubbery with good flavor. But I got two scallops and two shrimp. Got carrots instead of asparagus. Nothing wrong with that, but I expected to be notified when there are variations from what the menu says. They were out of the wine I ordered, but upgraded us for no additional cost. Disappointed in the evening.

Food was good. We sat on the patio and it was quiet, which we like. The service was fair. Our server didn't know if the house white was French or not and had to ask someone. Then he overcharged us for the wine by $6 which I brought to his attention and he had to double check that. He finally corrected that mistake. They were training another server while we were there and the trainee had his hands shoved into his pockets every time he came to a table instead of standing with his hands clasped behind his back. My father was in the restaurant business and never would have allowed that. He was very service driven.

I have tried Mateo a few times, even when it first opened in Boulder nearly 20 years ago. I leave disappointed each time. I clearly forget and go back, and others must enjoy it, or it couldn’t have survived in Boulder this long. The food is expensive for what is served, and all my vegetables were way undercooked. Even the roasted potatoes. They were absolutely hard and crunchy on the inside. It appears all the vegetables were browned over fire, but not on long enough to even partially cook them. Shrimp dish was anemic and scant for the price point. Again, that said, some people like it here, or it wouldn’t have lasted in Boulder. I just won’t be back, and hopefully this review will remind me of that when I’ve forgotten again in a few years.

Mateo used to be amazing. The food was delightful, beautifully plated, etc. Now, the food is ok-ish. My steak was overcooked and had a weird texture. My frites were served lukewarm. The bernaise sauce was just in a bowl on the plate, with a skin on it. The steak frites came with a salad, but the server didn't tell me that it did when I ordered another salad so I ended up with two. The cocktails were just ok. I didn't even drink half of my second one. This was probably our last visit. Based upon how empty the restaurant was, I'm guessing it's days are numbered.

Eggs florentine usually has spinach. this had 2 small sprigs of broccolini. Not enough vegetable for what I thought. It was on brioche which was either toasted and left to sit,or stale--it was hard, either way. Fried potatoes were like small square bricks. Restaurant was empty, so server wasn't busy. We still had to ask for water. No chai latte, which is pretty standard now in most restaurants. They did have regular hot tea, and coffee latte. Reading online, I had expected more.

The servers were polite and helpful, but rather than the dinner arriving as one would wish (and as we asked) with the appetizer coming first, we'd barely taken a bite of the appetizer before the salad and entree both arrived crowding the table with too big plates and rushing the dinner. The restaurant wasn't crowded so there seemed to be no reason for the hurry.

I never write reviews, but after the awful experience I had last night, I feel compelled to. Even though I had a reservation, it took 30 minutes for me to order, and only my husband got his food. When we spoke to one of the servers, their response was, “that’s your problem for ordering from a hostess.” He was incredibly rude. I left in tears - the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I doubt this restaurant will make it another month. For a better French restaurant in Boulder, go to the Brasserie.

My friend and I looked forward to dinner at Mateo's on Friday night. I wanted a vodka martini and she wanted gluten free vodka with soda and lime. They didn't have any gluten free vodka and basically didn't even have vodka for my martini. It was very disappointing. We stayed-I settled on a glass of wine. When the bill came at the end, her dinner was overcharged by $11.00 and my wine wasn't comp'd or discounted. They corrected the bill on her meal after we pointed it out.
