Owner-Chef Salvatore Coppola"s training began at an early age. As the son of the Naples born parents Salvatore spent many hours in the kitchen learning to cook and refining the same Northern Italian recipes in both of his restaurants. Before opening Coppola's on 79th Street, Salvatore trained in New York City Restaurants quickly becoming Executive Sous Chef. In 1986, using family recipes opened Trattoria Coppola, which soon after became a staple for dining on New York's Upper West Side and earned him a 5 Star Diamond Award in 1997. In 1998 Salvatore opened his doors of Coppola's East in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan to provide a more elegant style of his Northern Italian 'Comfort Food'.On any given night you may run into a number of New York's Resident or visiting celebrities at both of Salvatore's locations. In spite of receiving an email confirmation for our dinner reservation, we arrived to find Coppola's West gutted and under renovation!! Extremely frustrating from start to finish -- the restaurant's website makes no mention of this and OpenTable clearly has no idea.

Our first visit to Coppola's West was a big hit! Charming and intimate with lots of exposed brick, soft lighting and an antique feel. Just the right ambiance. Very good food and excellent service. Perfectly cooked pasta and an awesome chocolate mousse pie for dessert. While we didn't order pizza, there's a pizza chef with a beautiful brick oven that turns out terrific-looking pizza. We'll be going back often.

Food was adequate, but lacked depth of flavor. Had to add salt to everything and don’t usually add salt. Stuffed mushrooms best, but artichoke pizza and stuffed chicken dish bland. Off night?

We were told on arrival that there was no alcohol. Also told we were phoned to alert us to this. Turns out the place is closing so don’t have a liquor license. This should be upfront when making reservation.

Had a 12 o’clock reservation. I walked in the door and no one was there to meet us. A maître d’ quickly put on his tie as he asked what time our reservation was. Never took our name but didn’t really matter as the restaurant was completely empty. Pasta dishes were average. They lost their liquor license for some reason. Price was reasonable.

One of our go-to spots whenever seeing a show at the Beacon. Food is always fantastic. They recently lost their liquor license, so we couldn't enjoy wine with dinner. They were kind enough to call me in advance to inform me of that before we arrived. They are in the process of renewing it.

The food is excellent and the service was very good. We were disappointed to find out on the day of our reservation that the restaurant’s liquor license had expired They were gracious in saying that we could cancel our reservation but at that point we were so close to the reservation that we didn’t want to start looking for another restaurant

Hi. We made a reservation weeks ago. they called me 45 minutes before my reservation to tell me that they wouldn't be serving alcohol due to an expired license. I told her I thought that was very short notice as we did not have time to make another reservation because we had a show at the Beacon. Other than that the food was very good

Recently celebrated my friend's birthday at Coppola's West. We had a very enjoyable meal, both loved what we ordered. Was a little discouraged that they didn't have wine, like every other NYC restaurant. Not sure why they didn't have wine but it doesn't seem like an Italian meal without wine to me. Everything else was wonderful.

I enjoyed my meal. It was a great value and the service was superb. I ordered the Pork chop parmigiana special. It came with penne. It was delicious and was a actually a meal for 2. My wife loved the branzino special. We highly recommend Coppola West for foodies. Please make note they don’t serve alcoholic beverages.

This restaurant does not currently have a liquor license. It was a great value, fantastic food—-but they should let customers know on open table that they are in the process of renewing it. They did call 3hours before but it was too late to rearrange plans.

I would rate this at 3.5/5 stars. The food was outstanding. My sister and I ordered the penne ala vodka with chicken and tiramisu. The pasta was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the tiramisu wasn't too bad either. I knocked a star off for a few reasons. One, the waiter wasn't the best. He was not particularly friendly or informative. He did not ask, inform, or provide us with a list of beverages available. When we inquired about dessert, we learned there was no menu and the waiter just gave us a rundown of what was available. Second, no alcohol was available and no reason was given. Third, the price was ridiculous. For two entrees and two desserts, the bill came close to $80 (including tip). That was the most expensive lunch I'd ever had.

Coppola’s had no liquor license at the time of our visit, but they called and told us this in advance - not sure how long that is expected to continue. Food and we service were excellent, but they seemed to be doing a lot of takeout as opposed to dine in (perhaps due to liquor situation). Portions were extremely large and everything was very tasty.

I was not informed when I made the reservation that the restaurant did not sell alcohol. The host informed me, very rudely I might add, when I got to the restaurant. It also surprised me that they also do not allow for patrons to bring a bottle of wine with them, since they do not serve alcohol. It is an italian restaurant, who enjoys pasta without a glass of wine? Never going back.
